I’m currently resident and I hate it here staff is ok some are very rude and no bed side manner only allowed two showers a week which is gross gotta request your pain meds the Dr her are terrible you don’t see them a lot I always gotta ask for ice water n my bed sheets to be changed the food is always cold and gross and hard and not enjoyable at all

I visited a place called Medilodge of Howell, and it was a nightmare. It's a nursing home, and I have a friend there who has Alzheimer's. They had two people in a room that was really meant for one person. They were jammed in there and they had a curtain dividing the room. It was just sad and pretty inhumane. We got my friend out of bed, we took her for a walk, and then we left. I have no idea if her care was good or not, and she was in no condition to tell us.

Where do I begin? If you have a loved one that needs a substantial amount of care, Medilodge of Howell is NOT the place for them. My loved one was a resident for the past 7 1/2 years. In that time she broke a shoulder and a hip...will I ever know the exact cause????? This facility is GROSSLY understaffed and I assume underpaid. These are my observations over the years: ~She often did not have anything to drink throughout the day and if she did it was out of her reach. ~Food/crumbs were often in her bed and not cleaned up ~Her room was dirty..dust on the furniture and the carpet was filthy ~She was often sitting in positions that were clearly uncomfortable for her (she was unable to adjust herself) ~If there was a change in her health or a medication change, our family was never notified ~Often her blinds were shut and lights off in the middle of the day offering NO natural light or stimulation ~I often felt like I was bothering the staff when I asked a question or offered a suggestion pertaining to my loved one In all the years my loved one lived at Medilodge there were five or six aides that truly cared for her and took good care of her. I will be FOREVER grateful for all they have done...one even giving me her cell phone number so I could contact her at anytime. This whole Covid pandemic has made her stay a complete nightmare! I have had to visit from outside her window for 11 months...even after begging to come in. I gave many suggestions...offering to get a Covid test for proof that I did not have it. The open window visits ended and that took away any form of communication I could use to talk to my mom. When she was diagnosed with Covid (she was asymptomatic the entire quarantine) she received less care than she ever has. I was never notified that she was in active decline and I begged to be with her at her passing. Instead, I FINALLY got to go in the facility and hug her after she died...she died all alone. My loved one received frequent visits from me and other family members during her stay at Medilodge so we could monitor her care. What about those who have no visitors or who don't have a voice?

Rooms are small and often as many as four residents share a bathroom. In my opinion, it is all about the staff. Our experience with staff was 90% great. The ones who have been there a while, are committed to their job, love what they do and give excellent care. However, they are underpaid and overworked as corporate levels try to cut costs. We found great support from the nurses, to the maintenance staff, the aides, the cleaning staff, the laundry personnel,. Most genuinely cared for what they did and for the residents. They knew the names of residents even if they were not directly under their care. I rarely found that "nursing home odors" were an issue. Residents were tended to as fast as staff could get to them.

A recent stay at this facility (June 2017) was to say the least horrific. My mother was here for physical therapy after a fall at home. The nursing staff was caring but far overworked. One nurse was working two units and had 39 patients. My mothers medications were often hours late and and when pushing the call light to go the the bathroom it was not uncommon to wait an hour. The only positive of her stay here was she had a private room.

I just moved my mother out. This place is horrible. The nurses are caring but OVERWORKED. There isn't enough staff to care for the needs of the patients if my mother is any example. Medications not given on time, call button not answered, rude, disrespectful aides. The place needs a big facelift. They charge OUTRAGEOUS prices for few services. I'm so glad I've found other accommodations for her. Don't put your loved one here!

I have visited a friend at Medilodge of Howell. I wasn’t very impressed with the facility because it smells. It is a nursing home because she needed full time care, but she never complained there. She was in a very small room and it wasn’t very spacious.

They have provided minimal services. We have NOT been very happy with the treatment of our loved one so far. They are very understaffed all the time. The tables in wings where patients eat are not cleaned properly. Often laundry is not done so large body covers for eating are not available. Long waits for toileting. The few long term employees seem to care a great deal, which is comforting. The other staff only seem to be there for a paycheck. They also "know everything" so you cannot tell them anything.

I agree with most of the comments here; you have to let the staff know what is needed; even simple things like a clothing protector to be worn at each meal. It's disheartening to see a loved one with dried breakfast food all down the front of their clothing, still sitting at the table with the empty food tray 2 hours after a meal.....

Medilodge was crowded and very short-staffed. In general the staff members were fine but they were handling between 10 to 15 patients each. You also have to tell them to do everything they need to do. They just need to hire more staff. They also have a bus service that can take you to places. It would only cost like a dollar, so it's not that expensive.

Under staffing is horrible. A wait for 30 to 45 min to GO TO THE TOILET is not unusual! The CNAs and rehab staff are caring but can not keep up. Do not be fooled the pool is FOR LOOKS ONLY. I heard two staff talking and no one ever uses it but it impresses family members. This facility makes alot of money they could provide a few extra people to take care of the infirmed. After seeing my friend wait up to an hour for food I hope no one else I love ever ends up there.

The facilities in the rehab portion of facility are great! but other areas of the building are aging and do need a facelift. The staff does work hard to keep the condition of carpets and other facilities in good condition, but I do believe the carpets need to be replaced possibly with wood floors through like in the Rehab portion. It is clear which group of patient's brings in the money for the company. The rehab center is in good condition and includes lots of work out equipment and a small indoor pool. The staff for the most part are very kind and caring toward patients, but it is clear that some of the units are under staffed, which makes it hard to provide fast service/care to the patients! It is not uncommon during busy time periods to have to wait 20+ minutes to have a call light answered by staff. In the defense of staff they do have many people to care for so it is hard to give one person undivided attention for very long. Overall, I would recommend Medilodge of Howell, if you need more care for a loved one, but you should visit frequently and let the staff know things your family likes/enjoys.

My grandmother was placed in Medilodge after having hip surgery. Medilodge was a very clean and friendly enough facility. My grandma was 93 years old when this happened and she died shortly after this. While she was at Medilodge I felt the doctors did not take proper care of her. She was being treated for her hip, but it was obvious that she was well beyond the entire hip problem at this point. In the evenings the nursing staff was well understaffed, on most nights it would be common for two nursing assisstants and one head nurse to be on staff for roughly 30 guests. Also for the price you pay to stay at Medilodge you would think 4 guests should not have to share one bathroom. Over all it wasnt a terrible place but I fell it has its issues, like most facilities im sure. My grandma died two days after being released from Medilodge, i feel they should have treated her with end of life instead of a hip repair.
