I am a friend or relative of a resident

My first thought of the Folts home was that it looked beautiful inside. The d̩cor is somewhat of a Victorian style. One part of the home is original from the early 1900's, and the rest is newer. The part that is original is kept as it was in the 1900's, I couldn't help but wonder what Christmas looked like in that part. I was visiting the home because my elderly grandmother had a stroke and is now there, we had a surprise birthday party for her, and the staff was very nice and accommodating. They treated my grandmother as if she were their own. The home was very clean and seemed home like; the halls were comfortable and bright. Her room was big and she was able to have a lot of her personal items there. The nurse came in to give my grandma her meds; she was very sincere and personable with the ones that were in the room. There were 6 of her grandkids in the room with her and 3 of her children, the nurse said something like "You must be a much loved person, all of these people are alive because of you" this made my grandmothers day! All in all the entire home was beautiful, clean and welcoming. The staff was very nice and gentle and informative on her condition.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother, who is a resident there, has some ongoing emotional/ mental and physical challenges. She appears to receive good care and the staff all seem to know and respect the residents. She was in other facilities at different times, and this one seems to be the best for her. It is always very clean when we visit. She loves being able to have her hair done every now and then, and apparently is quite a ringer at the regular bingo sessions. It is also very good that they offer church services on site so that she may attend when she wishes to. I live very far away so do not get to visit more than once per year, so this is my perspective from infrequent visits, phone calls, and information from my siblings who are closer. I have only one suspicion that really is not related to her care per se. Every now and then, she needs to go to another facility to be evaluated or to have her medications adjusted. Since she usually ends up back at Folts within a few weeks, I wonder why the evaluations and medication adjustment cannot be done there. Is this because she is on public assistance, and these periodic transfers in and out help in the type of federal monetary reimbursement the facilities receive? I do not know, but it is more difficult on my siblings who are closer to deal with these situations.
