We were very pleased with the care our mother received at Palm Garden. The staff was courteous and helpful when we called and always willing to answer our questions. They notified us faithfully about needs mother had or concerns about her health, and walked us all through the covid days gracefully, without being alarmed or heavy-handed. Janna in the Business Office couldn't have been more helpful, walking us patiently through all the paperwork. The dining area was clean and pretty, and the food looked well-prepared and healthy-- like a nice restaurant. Thank you so much, Palm Garden, for your kindness and hard work.

Palm Garden of Gainesville was a very clean facility. When you come in, they screen you so no one can just walk into the facility and walk around. My father was in rehab for the first 30 days but now he's in there long term and I've been very pleased with all the experiences. He's in a semi-private room. He was originally in a private room when he was in rehab, but in the semi-private room, it's two people. They have a window and a nice-sized bath. It doesn't have a shower, but they have a place where they bathe them. Each person in the room has their own TV. It has a curtain that you can close for privacy. They have their own closet and their own nightstand. The rooms are bigger than hospital rooms, but the layout is very similar. My father loves the staff. He's taken physical therapy and occupational therapy and they're all very personal to him. They see him in the hall, and they stop by and talk with him. He was on the third floor now he is on the second floor, but when he sees one that he had previously, they remember him and they call him by name. So, they take very good care of their residents. I've been there numerous times when he's eaten and he's a little picky on his food. It's typical cafeteria-style food, so nothing special. I have been there numerous times whenever they were having their activities, too. They have wine and cheese weekly and bingo a few times a week. I've talked to the activity director and she's trying to get him to go down and participate, but right now he hasn't been willing to do that. At 2:00 p.m. when I walk by that area, they'll be all lined up waiting to go in. So, it looks like the residents in the nursing home enjoy that.

This is a clean and well run facility. My experience with staff has been great. The rooms are cleaned daily and spacious. All rooms have flat screen televisions, internet availability, and telephones. The nurses are knowledgeable and courteous. There is in house laundry and beauty salon availableto the residents. This is definitely a rehab facility I would recommend to anyone looking! Bonus, it's close to shopping and restaurants! On bus route.

My mother-in-law was a patient. She was placed in Palm Gardens for therapy due to a broken wrist from a fall. My mother-in-law is 100-years-old. She was neglected and got a severe bed sore on her lower back. She was taken to the hospital where the doctor the hospital said her wound should have never been allowed to get so bad under the care of Palm Gardens. Her wound was so bad that you could put your fist in it and see her bone. It was badly infected and oozing puss. She also developed sepsis. I do not recommend Palm Gardens for elderly care patients.

This was the second stay at Palm Garden for my husband. Two years ago, he was there about three weeks and was able to regain some strength needed to walk. We were pleased with his care. Then earlier this month he fell and was hospitalized for several days and found to have pneumonia. We were pleased that he could be returned to Palm Garden. I would visit him in the early afternoon and each time found him in bed with the room's blinds closed leaving the room dark. His pneumonia was caused by his shallow breathing which kept his broken ribs from hurting. The breathing was checked by checking his oxygen level. Each visit I found his breathing very shallow and knew his oxygen level had to be low but was assured it was where it should be. On the third day in a row of him being asleep in a dark room at mid-day with shallow breathing I brought one of the nurses back and he assured me that they had been checking his oxygen level regularly and it was consistently 98. He came back with me to the room and could clearly observe that the breathing was not compatible with him having a 98 level. He checked and the level was 88 which makes the patient lethargic. I am not pleased that staff felt they could fake his oxygen level with no consequences. The patient was put on antibiotics and supplemental oxygen and during the night was transferred to the hospital again where he was found to have double pneumonia which required IV antibiotics. Now some ten days later the patient is much better and ready to return to the nursing home for rehab but his room has been given to someone else. Now why was Palm Garden so anxious to give up his room to another patient? That was pretty well explained to me when I spoke to a Palm Garden case manager prior to his admission there. She asked me if the patient was able to stand, walk and fully participate in Palm Garden therapies. I explained that he was coming there because he needed to become able to do those things. She went on to say she didn’t want someone who was not going to be able to do all of those things because it would bring their score down (Medicare??).

I had no problems with anyone there! It helped me a lot! I was only there for short term rehab. But all the nursing. CNA, culinary, phy therapists, etc.....I loved everyone there!!! Every morning you would get a nice bowl of oatmeal. Since I cannot eat that. I would always not eat breakfast. I was not aware until I left I could have asked for something else!! DUH ME!!!! LOL!!!! My room was the best!!! Had no problems with going to bathroom alone. My medication was always on time!!! I did play 1 game of Bingo. I loved it!!! Not sure of title of the woman that ran it. But she was very nice. Also she distributed a newspaper to every room every morning!! I loved that little newspaper!! I looked forward to it every day!! Wished a couple times might have had another puzzle or 2!! I do not know how to do Suduku?? I'm not sure how to do those. I had a pleasant time there. Enjoyed everyone there!! Everyone was so nice & caring!!! Arlene Cooper

I was a resident at Palm Garden of Gainesville. This was my second time there for rehab. The first time was 8yrs ago and I do not regret going back. The staff are excellent and really care about making you feel comfortable. I especially enjoyed working with Charlie in rehab, he is a good guy. My nurse Amanda was great as well. Even the night time staff is awesome there. OH let me not forget the food, it was delicious. Thank you Palm Garden for making me strong again.

My elderly mother has been here for three separate injuries. Two of them quite serious. We have been very happy with the staff and the facility. The PT department is very good and all in all most employees have a great attitude and seem to enjoy the patients. The building is very well kept and clean. I do believe this facility really is the best in Gainesville. We have been to and seen others and they just don't compare. Now, that said, you still have to be very proactive when you have a loved one in a rehab facility. Stay on top of the care and medicines....ask about the care and communicate with the staff. They are very responsive to that and I was happy about it. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this facility. In fact it's the ONLY one in Gainesville I would recommend.

My mother was at Palm Garden of Gainesville. I was very disappointed. The unsociable social workers told me I had to get her out of there because they were going to stop giving her rehab. I went to the financial people, and they said that her insurance would cover her for 100 days. Then I went back to the rehab people and they said that they haven’t decided to discharge her at all. I was really upset. The three departments weren't communicating with each other, until finally they got it straightened out. The next thing I knew, they were looking for another place to put my mother in while we’re thinking about full-time care.

My mother likes Palm Garden; it’s the only place she will go anytime she needs anything for rehab. In the last five years or so, she spent a lot of time there. The people that work there are friendly and remember her when she comes back. I really like the care she is getting.

I liked Palm Garden very much. I like the order that they have. They seem to have people who know what they are doing and people who care. I was impressed. The sanitation is good because they have no bugs. There was no urine smell, and they make it routine of really keeping the place clean. At the evening, there is no food left in the rooms. Sometimes people have the habit of hanging on to something. They don't want you to have food there. You get some more in the morning, but you don't keep anything. I would highly recommend this place. If they have to go to one of those places, this is a good one.

My mother is staying there now on a short-term basis. Their physical therapy program has been great, and she's getting stronger every day. My mom said the food is very good and the staff is always attentive.

I had higher expectations for this facility. I actually thought it was nicer on the inside, but it is rather dated. The whole place needs an uplift. Even the carpet at the front entrance is dated and worn. The rehab facility is extensive and seems very up to date and well staffed. I was disappointed in the Social Workers as they did not have up to date information during our family meeting and could not answer questions. It was mostly a "feel good" meeting, but unfortunately I didn't feel good after. They just didn't have enough information and was just holding the meeting because the law requires. They were slow about giving us a release date. (My Mom was here after surgery for a short stay. If we had not pressed they would have kept her longer than she needed to stay.) I think this facility may be designed for long term care, but for Patients that are very active and are there only temporary, the activities were not very entertaining. I really expected more in the nursing facility. I was impressed that the cleaning crew seem to work around the clock. This young man was busy cleaning the floors constantly and the part we were in did not smell. The owners should start rennovating some areas and rooms to get an approved rating. The nursing staff including CNAs were very friendly and helpful.

I am very disappointed in Palm Gardens of Gainesville, FL. My relative broke a hip while under their care. We have found both roaches and ants in her room. The food is terrible. My relative has lost weight while under their care. The staff are friendly, but I believe, despite the ratings, that the nursing home is understaffed. My mother was in a nursing home in Trenton, FL that was superior to this one in every way. It is unfortunate that Gainesville, home of the University of Florida, does not have better nursing homes in town.

Palm Garden is pretty good. My father-in-law got better from the stroke he had, and he was not as disabled as other people, so he wants to go home. They said he can go home on the condition that he has a nurse to go with him to take care of his daily care and to make sure everything's fine. They have activities, a recreation room with a TV, board games they can play, even a barbershop. I think he likes the food. But it's a nursing home, so it can be depressing. I see more people in wheelchairs, so I think that's why he wanted to go home so much. They're clean, and I'm happy with that. I also like the location because it's very close to the mall. It's easy to direct people to find it. It's pretty hard to get in, and they always have limited beds because they are quite popular.

Mom was in Palm Garden, and my sister and I were not happy with them. We actually took our mother out of there. Mom was there after a long stay in a hospital, and she ended up with a bedsore on her heel that they didn't recognize until sometime down the road. They didn't respond to it quickly enough. She ended up with almost a year's worth of treatment, in and out of the hospital, in rehab, on finding it. They just weren't watching and paying much attention to the condition of the patients. My mother wasn't the only one who complained. Her roommate was a woman who was just building up her strength to have a heart surgery. She knew what was going on, and she got up and left of her on accord because she didn't like the way she was being treated. I knew that when my mom was there, they were understaffed. I knew they had a number of turnovers of the actual nurse level that they had in the facility, and I don't think they had enough mid-level aide staff that would be able to assist the patients. My mom could use extra care, and it just wasn't there. There were several places in the facility that smelled, and I was sure because there were some patients in that area that were more incontinent than the others. The bathroom in my mom's room wasn't clean. A lot of the times that I would go in there, I found it to be filthy. You could smell the odor immediately when you walked into her unit and in the hallway. So my sister said she just couldn't have my mom there any longer, and we took her out.

I visited this facility

I visit this location often to see my aunt. Most of the staff is very friendly there. There have been a couple of occasions that I have had to talk to the director of the facility. The first time was to ask them to replace the dresser in her room because it was broken and after several times of reporting it to the nurse and it not being handled I decided to go to the director. The second time was because after three consecutive visits all of her clothes were missing and she was wearing scrubs instead of the clothes that I had taken her to wear. After about a week the director did take care of those issues. Overall the facility is very clean and everyone seems to be friendly even when you show up for a visit that is not announced. The only complaint that I really have now is that she needs a haircut and they have not given her the money from her account to have one. I feel like this facility is better than some of the others that I have heard horror stories about, so I am happy.

I visited this facility

My experience with Palm Gardens was a pleasant one. Everyone one is treated like family. The facility gives the feel of home. They offer numerous activities, and games. The rooms are large and private. Upon entering, the staff greet you and help you with any concerns or questions. They have a music room that proves to be very delightful for the residents. When taking home a loved one for the day or longer, you can bet the staff are helpful and attentive. When returning they joyfully greet and ask about the visit. If I ever have the need to be in such a facility, this one will be my first choice. I have rarely ever experienced such a nice place. It reminds me of staying in an resort hotel. I feel like my loved ones are safe and secure here. They enjoy staying here which helps me to feel better about my choice. So it is highly recommended by me and my family.
