I have several concerns with the service at Infinia, I have noticed on several occasions that residents needs are overlooked or just flat out ignored, and the staff members seem talk more AT the residents then TO them and they have a bad habit of treating the residents like children instead of encouraging them to remain as independent as possible. I have heard the staff members tell the residents not to try certain things because of their age, I say, if a resident wants to be active and try new things, as long as it doesn't pose a risk to themselves or others, then who are you to stand in their way? Encourage them and support them and let them know you are here if they need you, but never ever tell them that they can't or shouldn't do something because of their age! Motivation and optimism is key and I do not see a lot of that going on. It seems the staff is too busy telling the residents what not to do as oppose to encouraging them to do the things they believe in themselves they can! On one occasion I overheard a resident ask a staff member for a glass of juice, and instead of catering to the residents needs, the staff member told them that they had already had enough juice for the day. The resident is an adult, and as long as her drinking juice doesn't interfere with any health condition or prescribed medication, then she should be able to drink as much juice as she'd like. I honestly thought it was more about the staff member being inconvenienced than a concern for the amount of juice the resident was drinking. I asked the resident what kind of juice she wanted and I got her a huge glass of it. It made me wonder, would the resident had to have just gone without juice if I weren't there to get it for her? The staff member, who is supposed to care for and accommodate the resident, refused to assist the resident with her request, so who is there to assist the residents when the staff members refuse to? I was appalled by the situation, and I think that it was handled inexcusably on the part of the staff member. Another issue that has been brought to my attention by one of the residents, is that on several occasions, the staff have forgotten to bring his meals to his room, and when he tries to ask someone for his meal, it takes a long time to receive it. He said one time he did not eat dinner until almost 9:00 at night, and the meal that they had prepared for that night's dinner had all been packed away, so he was stuck eating a ham sandwich. I think that, first forgetting to feed a resident is completely and unequivocally unacceptable, but to also not immediately rectify the situation is even worse. I have also heard complaints from many family members that it is almost impossible to contact their loved ones over the phone, and trying to call and check on their health status is even harder. I have hear many people tell me that they either have to wait on hold forever or the continuously become disconnected. It is important, especially in a nursing home type setting, that family members are able to reach their loved ones or get information about their loved ones immediately. I would not recommend Infinia at Cottonwood and I hope that things change right away for the residents currently residing there.

My loved one stayed here

the telephone system at Infinia in Cottonwood Az is really bad. It is very difficult to communicate with a family member that is a patient at the facility. I have tried for several days to call my mother there and am unable to get through. Communication is vital to the patients well being and if you can't get through by telephone, the patient is isolated.
