I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Please do not place your relative here. This place is very run down. It is evident the money they get is not put back into the facility. The floors are always sticky in the room and never any soap or paper towels in the bathroom. The food is mediocre at best. This is one of the worst nursing homes I've seen in years. Even the automatic doors don't work in the entrance. Also lots of theft goes on here that is not addressed. The staff seems to be ok when you're there but not so sure they are attentive to residents once you're gone.

I visited this facility

My mother stayed at The Renaissance at Midway for 21 days two years ago. I wouldn't take her back there. They needed a separate psych ward in this place because it was a mad house. They also needed some serious remodeling and a lot of work done. They don't season the food, but they gave the people full meals. The staff was always busy moving patients around whenever I went there. The place was crowded and noisy, and it was the way their place was run.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I'm at Symphony at Midway (formerly Renaissance) for rehab, and I'm not going to live here. They gave me four weeks of rehab, and it was adequate, but then it hit rock bottom. The staff is really good and very caring, but over worked and short staffed. The facility is average, and they have a lot of old furniture.

Lack of Common Sense

This facility is staffed with incompetent people. Even the front desk receptionist is unaware on how to handle calls. I called and asked to speak to someone over the facility. She, the receptionist, keep transferring to different nursing stations. Finally when someone from the third floor nursing station answered, I asked her if she was over the entire facility, she responded no. She told me I need the DOA (this is what I thought she said) , who would not be in until after 9:oo am. I then called the receptionist back and the argument persued. She said she did what I asked. I stated she did not, I asked to speak to someone over the facility. She said she transferrd me to the nursing station because that's what I asked for. So I asked for the DOA, after arguring, she told me she didn't know what a DOA is. I told her it was the person over the care giving staff, she corrected me and told me there was no such title, then she gave me another title which I don't remember. Her issue is she didn't know who/what I wanted so she just transferred me around. An intellegent person whould have asked questions. If she had a problem with the word facility, she should have told me and I would have clarified who it was I needed to talk to. Common sense is lost at that facility!!!

I visited this facility

Now called Symphony Renaissance at Midway due to so many state violations under their orignal name of Renaissance at Midway. If you care about the welfare of your aged family member, do not send the person to this facility! Let us start with the sparse, unappealing meals served everyday for breakfast: 1 egg, 1 piece of bread, oatmeal and a child's portion of cereal with milk. If the person did not eat that meal or only partially ate the meal, the nursing staff would still administer all medicines on an empty or partially empty stomach; thereby creating a very weak person who would eventually lose balance while walking. 2. The residents on the third floor were all in wheelchairs. This floor is dedicated to people who have psychological issues, not physical issues. I could not believe that my mother, who is an excellent walker was placed in a wheelchair because she was a "flight risk." Well, she was malnourished and heavily doped up with meds. She lost strength and weight. After witnessing all these atrocities, I called 911 to have my mother removed and sent to a hospital. Once the paramedics arrived, a nurse at the facility, Valencia, tried to prevent my mother from leaving by asking her basic questions to test her alertness in front of the paramedics. My mother was more than alert as she answered all questions. Then, the paramedics asked Valencia for insurance information, she said: "I will not give you her information because she is leaving AMA." As her son, I am entitled to request other medical advice. 3.Dirty bathrooms with sometimes lots of water on floor, therby causing potential slips and falls.

I visited this facility

My mother is in Renaissance Midway upon my first visit there i notice the windows hadn't been cleaned in some time. That the nursing home staff uniform appeared dirty. My mother meal were small in portions and didn't look every appealing. She had to wait 20 minutes to get assistance to go to the bathroom she had to wait for her medication and as i walked down tbe hallway it was like walking down an obstacle course. They changed her person gowns and lost them in the laundry . Need i say more

What a nice place, very pleasant and peaceful. I had an uncle staying there and the attention was outstanding. It clearly shows how they treat all residents like family and not like a patient when you see everyone interacting with each other.

The Renaissance at Midway has a great reputation. My mother was there for about five years. When I went to see her, she was always in a good mood and happy all the time. She was in good condition. Residents seemed happy and pleased. They seemed to be doing well. I didn't see anybody that was in a sad shape or complaining. With regards to food, when I visited her there, they gave her healthy foods and portions were sufficient. They also had activities for their residents. They had a recreational room for them. In the summer months, they even had a patio place where they would sit out on the deck and play cards. Services were great in The Renaissance and they really did a good job.

The staff may try but the facility really should be closed. It seems the state may have forgotten about the residents. There doesn't seem to be adequate supplies (bedding, food doesn't seem to be tasty, residents can't seem to keep the items that belong to them--they "disappear". Its disgraceful. Is the facility full of dishonest people? They shouldn't be afraid of speaking up for fear of retaliation simply because they have no other place to live. The staff may try, but the facility still should be closed.

The Renaissance is a fairly new facility, located right off the expressway and very near public transportation. The staff was very friendly although they seemed to be a bit over worked. They also seemed to be a bit short staffed during many of my visits. I was very pleased with the friendliness and out going activities staff, they really seemed to make the residents needs priority and included the resident and family members when planning field trips and discussing various events that they were planning. The front desk was staffed with a very polite and knowledgeable young lady who was always very helpful to family and on several occasions could be seen going above and beyond for residents and family members. The facility is fairly new so it hasn't picked up the customary nursing home smells, but the janitorial staff could be seen maintaining the up keep of the facility, the floors were well maintained and the trash bins were empty. The dietary staff was always polite and meals were always served on time, some of the meal choices were not to our desired tasting and the staff was quick to offer us another choice. Overall it is a very nice, clean and comfortable place with quality staff who care for their residents.
