I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad is staying at The Grand at Bethany. The facility is really clean. They've been doing what I've asked them to do with my dad, like making sure that he is sitting up in his wheelchair and not lying in bed all day, which they've been great about. He had a little incident, and they attended to that medical incident right away and called the doctor. Even when he doesn't want to get up, they're still getting him up, so I really appreciate that a lot. The only thing I haven't cared for is that they can't keep up with his laundry. I've taken five pairs of pants up there, and I think only one pair is in his room. I've brought it to their attention numerous times. The majority of the people who are working there are very kind and caring, and they listen to what I'm asking them to do. I've seen a calendar of events. I know my dad has gone down for group therapy and physical therapy. They have a little courtyard in the middle, and I've seen several residents gather out there. It's pretty pricey.

The Grand at Bethany has been good. They've reacted to suggestions and concerns I had right away. They were very receptive. The activities are good and their therapy department has been very helpful to my mom. The food is also good, but the main thing I liked about it is it's consistent and on time. They have a library, a church service every Monday at 10, and a very nice outdoor garden that's enclosed. It's got a waterfall that pumps the water up and it's got flowers. It's big that you can walk around and get outside, while still being enclosed. You don't have to worry about outside sources.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was sent to Grace Living Center in Bethany (now known as the Grand) for skilled nursing following a stroke, which caused a severe vision impairment. From what she told me (since I couldn't visit), meal trays were simply placed in front of her, with no guidance as to where things were located on the plate. Also, the therapy she received did not seem to take the visual impairment into consideration. While some staff members were very helpful, others were abrupt. About half the time when we would call the main number, it would ring about 20 times with no answer - even during traditional working hours. The communication with family was sub-standard. They moved my mother to a different room twice without first notifying us. After the first time, I spoke to the administrator, who said that the admissions staff were supposed to have contacted family before EVERYONE ON THE WING was moved to a different room. We were not notified either time about the room move. There was no hot water in one of the shower rooms so my 86-year-old mother was expected to shower in cold water. She reported to me that there was no hot water in her bathroom either. Also, the TV in the first room did not work for the first day or two. Because she was in quarantine, she couldn't leave the room. Due to her vision issue, she couldn't read. When she ventured into the hallway, she said they yelled at her. The stroke impacted her cognition somewhat, yet the staff did not seem to recognize this. When my mom was discharged, some of her clothes were missing. We were given her prescriptions and some papers, but no one went over any discharge instructions with me. Also, staff members told my mom she was being released on a Friday when in reality her release date was set for Monday. This got her hopes up unnecessarily. I know with COVID-19, facilities like this are facing a lot of challenges. It was difficult not to be able to visit. I will say there were some staff members who got us on the phone for her, as she couldn't see to dial at first. She did speak highly of about four of the staff. Overall, I found the facility to be lacking in communication and from what I could tell based on my mother's feedback, somewhat understaffed. I would not recommend the Not-So-Grand as a first or second choice.

This place is the pits. I have a friend there now for 1 week and 75% of her clothes and personal items have completely disappeared. They usually have 1 person there all night. People lay in there soiled clothes and sheets. They at times disobey doctors orders. They were bathing her and at shift change they just walked away. She said; "HEY" they said shift change gotta go & left her as she was. If you're looking for a home--Keep looking. They don't/won't care.

I visited this facility

Grace Living Center in Bethany is nice. They've just undergone remodeling so it's pretty up to date. The staff that we met was very courteous, friendly, and welcoming. From the initial walk-through and from working with them to get my loved one admitted to the place, it's been a positive experience. They have a pretty nice restaurant-style dining area. What I found interesting is that they also have what they call a dignity dining facility where people who have physical issues and need assistance with dining can have a separate space where they can dine. The staff member who gave me the tour said one woman is teaching crochet classes to the residents, and another one will be starting a no-contact bridge class.

Grace Living Center was so welcoming. I was impressed with the open areas where people could sit. The staff was very nice and helpful. My first impression was a little bit of the appearance that attracted me, but after we placed her there, they do a really good job. It’s well managed, my mother-in-law had to be in a special room. They have quite a few people in there, but they do a great job, and they are very good with the patient. They chat with them to make it just feel like a real homey environment. I have lots of wonderful things to say about the facility. They have been awesome, very proper, and caring. Before we moved her, she always had skin sores because she always sits in her wheelchair for so long and my mother-in-law doesn’t speak; she has severe dementia but she gets very angry if she would be in a wheelchair too long after a meal and they just don’t worry about taking her to her room, but she had no more sores when she stayed here. She is doing very well and seems very content.

My mom is just getting rehab at Grace Living Center. The place seems to be a clean facility. The rooms are kind of small but it looks like the rehab facility is good.
