I am a friend or relative of resident

I brought my mom to Huron Woods, post brain surgery. She was treated with dignity, as a person, with such compassionate loving care by ALL from the admitting person to the administrative director to nursing to maintenance. They spoke to her, thanked her, cleaned her gently, dressed her with love and made her "pretty" . What I noted most of all.... ALL patients were treated with the same compassion and care by ALL the staff. I can't thank them enough. They are a God send. Oh, yes..the facility is beautiful too. But most of all so are the people who work there.

I am a friend or relative of resident

A relative of mine stayed there, and will not ever be taken back there. While the staff, especially the off-shift staff is very caring and hard-working, they are understaffed. My relative called for assistance to use the restroom. After 15 minutes I went looking for staff. That nurse said she had to get help. Fast forward to 45 minutes from hitting the call button and I am walking the hallways looking for anybody. After walking the halls I finally called on my cell. It rang so long it disconnected. I called back, and finally got the staff down to the room. Who wants to wait that long to use the restroom? Who many other residents found themselvesm in similar circumstances?? Yes it was clean, and they apparently removed asbestos during the spring of 2010, and the meals seemed to be of high caliber. The problem is that they have physician's assistants visit 100+ patients in a day once a week. A person's personal physician is not allowed to visit them nor to supervise their care. Something to think about if you or a loved one will be there for an extended period of time. The PA may be different from week to week, and good luck being able to communicate with the doctor who is supposed to be in charge who is in the Detroit Metro area... Even worse, the intake worker was aware that the doctor who had seen my relative for a broken arm had left orders for the sling to be removed and for her or someone else at the nursing home to to schedule a follow up visit for that 2-4week timeframe. After 6 weeks the family inquired and then in a family meeting, the very same woman who told me on intake day that my relative needed the follow-up visit and that they would schedule it, boldly lied and said that this doctor had not left any orders for a follow-up, but that they went ahead and cleared that up. Funny thing, when I called the doctor's office about this, his nurse looked at the chart and read the very words the doctor wrote. These words were in fact exactly what I was told the day of intake. But that's not all. They are supposed to send a form to the doctor for any further orders. They did not. The doctor was upset that this sling was still on my relative and took it off. That was on a Friday. Upon my next visit 3 days later on Monday, I found that her arm was back in a sling. Again, they tried to blame the doctor, then the family. My relative was discharged after 100 days as "non-ambulatory" and had lost a great deal of range of motion in that arm as a result of the care she received at Huron Woods. This is very disappointing, since the place looks very nice and the staff who had direct patient contact were all very caring people. The good news is that the visiting nurses and their PT got my relative rehabilitated once at home. The only reason they get 2 stars is because of the meals, the nice appearance of the place and the caring nursing staff. I would give their PT and their administrators negative stars if I could.

    I visited this facility

I visited a friend in the facility. What impressed me the most was how clean it was, that was very important to me. I thought it was a lovely place to stay if you had to be in a nursing home. My friend treasured the fact that they had mass there for the residents who couldn't leave to go to church. In fact, they even served them communion! She just beamed with joy! The people that worked there were smiling and welcoming. My friend said she enjoyed the food as well! The nursing home nourished her body as well as her soul! It was decorated to be like you were at home; very welcoming! They had a lovely dining room with tables that sat about four people to a table to make it intimate. They had a lovely living room area where you could sit and talk. I spoke to a few other people there and they said they liked it too. They had rocking chairs there, which were comfortable. There were safety features as well; an alarm went off if the residents tried to leave the building to keep them safe if they problems with memory. Her room was nice and she had a nice roommate. I felt that if I ever had to put my mother in law in a nursing home, this would be a wonderful place for her to live!

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My Grandmother was a resident of this facility. She absolutely loved the staff! But in my own experience the staff was very friendly, patient and was in good spirits. Whenever I walked in I was sure to see a nurse either joking around with a resident or giving them a hug to brighten their day.first impressions of every visit I had is that they really cared about the place... it was always clean, and smelled good. Someone was constantly cleaning floors, walls and the residents rooms. Just like at home, only grandma didn't have to do it.In addition to the above the residents got to do group meals, activities and just hang out together in the living room area. Bingo was always a big hit because they would win prizes to give to the little visitors when they came, or to keep for themselves. My grandma since passed away - but I will never forget the staff at Huron Woods.. they truly are great! Staff came to the funeral and had big hugs for the whole family and tears in thier eyes... i know grandma touched them as they had touched our hearts.
