I visited this facility
Aston Park is a nice facility, but the staff range from well qualified to apathetic. The amenities are pretty bare bones, as this is sort of billed as an assisted living facility but really is more of a nursing home. They do provide some skilled care for people with injuries who will be returning home, but that is a small minority of the residency. The primary focus seemed on making sure that residents don't die. As far as any care beyond that it was superfluous. There are some activities, but most of the resident's day focused on eating, going back to there rooms, eating, bathing, and then going back to their rooms. Many of the residents have severe dementia. The facility is very modern, which is a plus, but many of the guidelines that are required to become a nursing assistant are apparently ignored once obtaining employment as a nursing assistant. Basically, I wouldn't want my own mother, father, or any other relative to have to live at this facility. There is little sense of community and most of the care seems to consist of meeting requirements: making sure the resident's eat, bathing the residents, and taking care of obligatory exercise requirements, and then charting the activities. Very little focus on what would actually matter to a human being.
I am a friend or relative of a resident
My grandmother was recently a resident in this facility in West Asheville North Carolina. When she first became a resident, she was fairly independent. The staff was great at figuring out her needs, while still allowing her independence. This is important to an elderly person who is still independent. As she became older and weaker, she eventually was bedridden. The nursing home provided above average care. However, in her last days she experienced mouth sores due to being feed foods she was allergic to. It was on her report that she could not have anything with citric acid as they caused sores. They also did not seem to be too quick on changing her diapers. However at the time they were short staffed. The staff did contact family the minute they knew my grandmother was on her way out. They remained with her until she passed. I would recommend this faculty to others in the Asheville area but advise to double check on records and needed individual care.

This facility is wonderful and I definitely recommend it to anyone. The staff was so friendly and even with such a large number of patients, they always greeted us by our first names every day. It meant a lot that they took the time to remember us personally. The food is actually good here, too! They took great care of our loved one and kept us all informed of any changes in health or plans.
