I visited this facility

My brother will be moving into Desert View Senior Living. I showed up at dinnertime, and dinner smelled delicious. The facility was very clean. The residents were so nice and friendly. It just seems to be like a community where they kind of help each other out as well. There are lots of activities to keep people busy during the day, so they're not just sitting around watching T.V. or something. We looked at a little studio apartment. It's kind of like one big room with a divider. There's a small bedroom in the back, a living area at the front, a small refrigerator, and a microwave. There's also a walk-in shower with a seat, so they can just walk in and sit down. The staff was great. He was helpful and answered all my questions. The meal is cooked to order. They can order whatever they want for breakfast that's on the menu. It was like a restaurant.

Provider Response

The staff at Desert View Senior Living was very caring. Cici was the one that gave us the tour and she was excellent. It's just a little bit of an older facility, so it didn't seem as well-kept as some of the other facilities we've seen, but overall, we liked it very much. We looked at the daily specials they had and I think that was one of the things that my aunt liked the best. They had cucumber salad and she loves that. They had a lot of activities. They had a salon that you had to pay for, a game room, and exercises, and they take their people out of the facility to shopping or the casino.

Provider Response

CC IS THE BEST! Her mother resided here at Desert View and after she passed, CC was so engaged with our team and loved the building so much, we decide that she would be a great asset to the building and offered her a position here. What better person to tour with!! The community is over 26 years old but is is clean and as homey as you can get. While not a newer shiny penny community like modern resort buildings, no one come close to the level of care and passion as Desert View. That's what residents choose a building for...care right? The community is most welcoming and care is the priority. Thank you for you wonderful perspective of Desert View.

The people at Desert View Senior Living were great. One amenity that I liked about it was they had a 1950s diner-looking room. It was very cute. The apartments were very clean and nice, too. They had one-bedrooms and studios. They had activities, places to walk around, and little eating areas. The only reason we didn't choose them was there was no opening.

The staff at Desert View Senior Living gave us a tour. We were able to see the dining area. We were able to look at a couple of rooms like the one-bedroom. The other one was a studio, which is what we would need. We were able to see some activity places. We looked at the menu, and we went out into the courtyard. I think it was reasonable for what we are looking for, as far as having to pay. The staff seemed nice. They have a small refrigerator in the room, too. Everything looked clean. It just looked a little outdated.

Desert View Senior Living is great. I've been there four times and I'm already starting to move my mom in, so I've had the opportunity to meet a lot of the other residents and the staff. Everyone who's there that I've talked to that lives there thinks it's great. I like that they have a laundry room. It's not even coin-operated. It already has the soap; you just push the button, and the soap just goes in. They provide laundry once a week, but if you want to do more you can. My mom's big like that, so that was a big plus. They also have a salon that my mom will be using as soon as she gets there, which is nice. She hasn't eaten there yet, but I liked the dining hall. It seems like they have a lot of activities, too, as far as driving and going to Walmart, Macy's, or even Santa Fe Casino. So, they have a lot of outings. It's a little bit older of a community. It's in a very quiet neighborhood, which is a nice thing, and it's adjacent to a park. It's nice. It's more of a homey feel than a glamorous feel. It's also clean.

I toured Desert View Senior Living and saw both assisted and memory care. The memory care is on lockdown, and the rooms weren't as nice, they didn't have a microwave or refrigerator. I like the fact that it looks very homey, they have lots of big sofas where the residents were watching TV so they weren't all just stuck in their rooms. The room that I saw didn't have any furniture, they were vacant. The food was good, it looks healthy. I wasn't able to try the food but I saw what they were having for dinner and they had a plate of baked chicken breast and a vegetable medley, so it wasn't a bunch of carbs. They have a gym and a movie theater, which is a nice feature.

I like Desert View Senior Living. I feel very comfortable leaving my mother there. I recently had to take her to a doctor's appointment, and we were gone for a good three hours. She was absolutely happy to go back in. I worried that she would want to go home with me, and that I would have a problem dropping her off again. She was happy to be there. It was like she was going back home. I think she's getting wonderful care, and I'm very happy with it. The staff is friendly and helpful. They call me whenever anything comes up. I feel like they're looking out for her, and they keep me very informed. Her room is nice and small. It's enough for her bed, her nice comfortable chair, little end table, and chest of drawers. She doesn't need more than that. That's plenty because this is on the memory care side. This is not assisted living. They have games and exercise. Once in a while, they take a field trip. They like to pile in to their bus and go look at Christmas lights at Christmastime, so once in a while they do that. They play games and different things more geared towards the group and their abilities. They have a salon. They have a lady that comes in and does their hair (if they have an appointment for that) or does a nail trim, full pedicure, or their fingernails. I haven't signed her up for that yet, but she will be going there. I have not eaten the food yet. Three times that I've been there to visit her or pick her up and whatnot, they were getting the food ready or it's just after a meal or just before. It smells wonderful. That's one of the things that I talked to the director about: how good the food was. He said there is just rarely any complaints because they offer good food there and quality ingredients. I was very pleased about that. The place seems nice and clean. Mom said she liked the food she had, and it smelled wonderful. She's limited on how much she can do, but I think they do plenty for her. I think memory care is expensive, but you have to feel good about where you put someone. You have to feel like they're going to take good care of her. In that way, it is good value. It's expensive, but it's worth it. It's all the same big building. The memory care is over on the other side, but it's all connected.

My mom moved into Desert View Senior Living. They seem to be compassionate. My mom seems to be kept well physically. She has an urgent issue, so she often goes to the bathroom. They are OK with helping her frequently to use the restroom, which is a very big deal. They have good communication. They were very helpful in getting my mom moved in during COVID restrictions. My mom seems well fed. The dining area is appropriate for the needs of the residents, looks clean, and is an active area. They just started their activities because of the COVID restrictions. But my mom participated in the musical event where they had a gentleman singing, and my sister said it went very well.

I visited this facility

We went to visit Desert View Senior Living and we were very impressed. First of all, we liked the facility because it had a very home-like feeling to it. You didn't feel as if they were visiting any kind of specific facility, so we like the building itself, and it makes a difference. We have visited places that as soon as you walked in the door, you felt like you were in some sort of school or institution, but here, the way it's created is you feel like you're walking into somebody's house or somebody's home. You get that feeling as soon as you walk in the door. The fellow who runs it, his name is Charlie, came and picked us up. He was very helpful and there was a very good connection among all the staff people; you could recognize that right away. The rooms, the whole building made you feel that you were in somebody's home. It was very comfortable. And they do this on purpose, they've created this very well. As soon as you walked in the door, you feel that you're in somebody's home, you don't feel like you're in any kind of facility. The way the building, he referred to them as apartments, the way that they're set up and your ability to do what you want with that, it's just very comfortable. There are different styles. They have a courtyard, it was very well taken care of and very comfortable. Everybody knew each other, everybody was not only expecting them to be good to the people who were visiting, but it was obvious that they had a good connection among themselves. In a lot of the places that we visited, there was only one style of apartment, but here there are 2-3 different styles.

My sister moved into Desert View Senior Living, and she loves it there. She's in assisted living, and they're really good with her. They take very good care of her, and she's adapting well. Everything went really well. The director and assistant director were very nice and very helpful in explaining everything. It was just a pleasant environment when I walked into that place. I knew that was the place for her right away. It was so airy, nice, and clean. Her room is very nice too, and everybody's been so pleasant. They call her by name every day. She says the food is delicious. She can't wait, and sometimes she's already dining before they even serve the food. She's already there and ordering. I'm just so happy that I looked at that place.

Right now, my mom is in quarantine at Desert View Senior Living. So far, every personal experience I've had with them has been great. She's very happy with the food and very happy with the care. We can't visit her right now. She has a studio, which is perfect; it's just right for her. They have the common game areas and common visiting areas there. They also have community rooms that are really nice and furnished with tables and things like that. They have lots of activities. They have a courtyard with tables and chairs; it's nice. The food is excellent and my mother said she's worried she's going to gain weight. It's wonderful. It's very clean and welcoming, compared to the others we've toured before we decided.

My mother-in-law moved into Desert View Senior Living. I recommend them highly. They are very nice and very good. I have no issues there. Everything about it is right, plus they are working with me on the VA for mom to get assistance from her late husband's military status. They do all the paper work and leg work. All I need to do is give them the forms, and I don't have to worry about a thing. They were very good, very knowledgeable, and very reasonable on the rates. Their meals are outstanding. We were just going through the menu. The staff is very good. She has a pendant. She pushes the button, and they are here in five to ten minutes if they're not taking care of somebody else, otherwise as soon as they're done, they come right over. My mother-in-law had cream of broccoli (which is not my favorite), and she goggled it right up. The layout is simple, not overwhelming, and you do not have to do rights and lefts. It just has a main lobby. Then you walk right into a dining room. It has a very beautiful lobby. They got a rec room and a theater room upstairs. You take an elevator, and they have workout rooms and other stuff downstairs. They have decent size rooms too, not too tiny. They have games, bingo, and they take you to doctors' appointments Mondays through Wednesdays. Unfortunately, she is not really capable of going out and doing much activity. I think the carpets need to be replaced.

Desert View was pretty good. It was just a little bit more institutional with long hallways and a lot of doors. The staff was very engaged with their residents. All the residents were out of their room and actively doing something. They are actually walking around. They are dressed and not in their pajamas.

Provider Response

Thank you for your input on Desert View. Assisted Living hallways are like hotel rooms with a lot of apartments indeed. Fortunately, residents have to navigate only 4 hallways on two floors. They are very active outside their apartments and are welcoming to visitors and new residents. Some communities you can hear a pin drop as residents tend to stay in their apartments. At Desert View, it's quite the opposite.

Desert View Senior Living is an older facility. They might need a little paint job to spruce it up a little bit. The colors of the hallways were pleasant because they had wallpapers, which wasn't just one solid page, it had a little variety in it. It was nice. The staff was definitely a salesperson. He was kind of a little overbearing but he was fine.

We chose Desert View for my father-in-law. They have two people in each room. They have their own bathroom and a closet to share. It's a pretty good-sized room. The dining room is large. There are lots of tables and chairs for activities, and for eating as well. My father-in-law has only been there a little while, so I'm not sure about the activities. They do exercise classes. The value for the money is extremely fair.

I chose Desert View Senior Living for my brother. It's wonderful, they're taking really good care of him, they go out of their way to communicate, and he's happy. We're happy, and it's a very nice place. It's a huge place, and it's designed almost like a hotel. They have everything from game rooms, to a nice dining room, to a library, and a music room. They had a little corona cafe, because when they go in, they have to be in quarantine for the first seven days. They've never had a case of COVID, and so during those seven days if you have to see your loved one or they really have to see you, you're taken to this little room that looks like a 50's cafe. They do trips on their buses, they do games every day, and they have an off menu. If they don't like what's being served that night, they can order any kind of fast food they want. They have a Denny's breakfast with no menu, you just order whatever you want, and they'll make whatever you want. It's just a really cool place.

The food we had at Desert View Senior Living was very good. The staff was wonderful. The apartments were beautiful and very roomy. The dining area was really nice. All the residents were telling my mom, "We hope you live here." They give a discount to veterans, and they accept pets. They have big and little one-bedroom options, and it's very reasonably priced. The nurse and the hairdresser lady were very nice. It's a beautiful facility.

So far, Desert View is OK. Activities scheduled are posted in the elevator, by the cafeteria and the front office. My mother's room is clean. The staff members are professional and friendly. There are lots of amenities, they have outside patio furniture, and the food is pretty good, too. It is a very clean and comfortable place.

Desert View Senior Living has recently been taken over under new management and its conditions are better than they were apparently. I didn't have the opportunity to see how it was prior to the new management. There were a few reasons I chose it. I could tell the residents seemed happy, and the staffing is very capable, helpful, caring, and kind. In general, they have a high level of capacity for different levels of care and they have a coordinated kind of all-in-one package where they have a visiting physician. They also have transportation available and all the other usual amenities. They're also contracted with another entity who comes in to do memory care and physical therapy. I liked that. Everything was clean and organized. They have a great restaurant dining area. They try to keep everybody busy with activities and birthday parties once a month, and there's live music a couple of times a week up there in the TV room. It just seemed like an all-around nice facility, plus it's very close to my home here in Las Vegas, which is about seven minutes away. It's really good. I finally got my mom in there on Friday night. We put her in there for one night a few weeks ago and then she fell in the morning so I took her to the hospital to make sure everything was OK. She cut her head on the closet, but she's alright. She went through some pretty intensive rehab for two weeks in another wing in another area of Mountain View Hospital, which is also very close to Desert View Assisted Living. It is down the street basically, which is convenient. Everything is very close. I feel comfortable that I'm close by and my wife works in a building that's close. Everybody says the food is good. The staff is very kind, very helpful, very compassionate, and organized. They have things like Bingo and word games. It looks like a relatively full calendar. They even offer trip services. I got a good price out of it and it turns out my neighbor had just recently put his mom in the same facility. I really trust his judgment and that makes me more comfortable as well.

Desert View Senior Living was near where we live now and near our doctor and everybody we know. It's going under new management and they're redoing it. The rooms were very nice and they're going to clean up everything and put in new carpets. The lady was very nice, very knowledgeable, took us all over, and showed us the dining room, which was clean and looked very good.

I went to Willow Creek. That was the first one that I went to. It was a nice big building. The assisted-living was completely away from the others. The memory care was open. There were a lot of people sitting around. I was there in the afternoon. They had just finished their meal, and they were cleaning up after it. It was very nice. The staff knew the people by their name, and the people living there seemed to acknowledge people around them. They had people came in to sing Christmas songs, and stuff like that. The place was very clean, and very nice. They offering people choices on their meals along with what their daily offering was; which was nice for some people who might not like certain kinds of food. They could order from a menu.

Willow Creek felt like an apartment building so it’s smaller but it’s beautiful. As far as the assisted living part went, it was my favorite one. I did eat there; it was really good. I liked that they have a special every day but if you don’t like the special, you can order whatever you want. The special that day was fajitas and they were really good. One day, it was salmon and rice. You could order chicken fingers or a hamburger or whatever you wanted so that was really great. The staff was really great. I wasn’t too impressed with the memory care side which was what we needed. It wasn’t horrible or bad but it definitely didn’t have as good of a feel. Overall, I felt like the assisted living side was fantastic. The rooms were small but they were fine. I felt like the activities in the assisted living were great. They have lots of things and the memory care people can go to those if they have someone assist them.

We liked Willow Creek at Buffalo. If and when we eventually moved my mother-in-law down here, we will probably go with that facility because of the location. It was a small facility. We liked the personal care because it is a small facility. However, it would all depend on availability at the time we needed it.

I think the staff at Willow Creek is terrific. They're very kind and considerate, and they're aware of each of their patients individual needs as far as we can tell. My dad has a large family, so we all come from different directions and show up at different times; as far as people dropping in and seeing how things are being run, they're doing a pretty good job. There were a couple of times when they left him unshaven, so we got on them about that, because if left on his own, he would rather not shave, clean, or take a shower; that only had to happen once, and the rest had been fine. I think it’s very high-end and very well taken care of; it’s immaculate. The food is great, and they take great care of the family members. They are very friendly and welcoming. I just think that it’s a five (out of five) star facility.

My friend ended up moving to Willow Creek. I think the rooms are very small, but other than that, it seems fine. Her daughter got her the cheapest room -- which is like a junior suite -- and she has one of those big power wheelchairs so in the living room, there’s only enough room for a recliner and her wheelchair. Their dining room was small, but they have 2 different feeding times which is good because not everybody wants to eat at 4 o’clock; they eat early. I looked at one of their calendars, and I saw different outings they had, and they have activities going on inside.

My only complaint here at Willow Creek at Buffalo where I am currently living at is their food. It’s OK, but definitely not gourmet food. It's institutional, and I think they need to improve their food. Their dining area is fine, but my room is tiny. I have a microwave and a refrigerator. I was rehearsing today for our choir as we have to put on a little performance for the Christmas dinner. We also did stretches in the drama club. We also have bingo. They also take people to casinos and shopping. Monday through Wednesday, they take the residents to their doctor's appointments. The staff is absolutely wonderful. They are very helpful. The staff is the highlight of the place.

Willow Creek knocked me off my feet. It was phenomenal and beautiful. It was done very well. It was a very rich looking place. It was like walking into a five-star hotel. There was a lot of cherry wood in the décor. When you walked in, there was a great big sitting area with a great big fire that was on. The dining room really impressed me because it had linen tablecloths and linen napkins. It was set up beautifully, set up like a nice restaurant. The staff offered lunch, if we wanted to have lunch, but my brother said "No," so we didn't. They had a thing set up on the side for the morning. I guessed it was like a breakfast bar where people could help themselves to breakfast. Then, they switched it over for lunch. They had a salad bar for the whole day, and she said they changed it up three times a day. There were also some fruit in there, so if people wanted a healthy snack, then could have it anytime in the dining room. I was exceptionally pleased with the visit. The one thing that disappointed me was the price. There was a price for the basic services, but then for every little thing that needed to be done, they added a price on to it. They said they evaluate them when they come in, and every three months, they evaluate them again.

Residents at Desert View Senior Living can also take advantage of other amenities such as gardens/outside patio area, an activities room that provides them with plenty of options to keep themselves entertained, respite services which provide temporary care if needed, ample parking for guests, as well as parking spaces reserved exclusively for residents.
