I am a friend or relative of resident

My grandma passed last year and she spent her last few years of her life at Pickersgill. She liked being there and the nursing staff was so great to her and even when she passed treated her with such dignity. I would recommend Pickersgill highly for your family member.

I visited this facility

Pickersgills is located in Baltimore, MD. They were founded in 1802, and had a long foundation of being known for quality care. I believed this was true as well when we sent my grandmother to the community. It was grand in scale, expensive for her to be in and seemed there was a lot of activities for her to participate in. Their are many great communities in the area of the greater Baltimore-DC area. Also be aware once medicare does run out, it is up to you to make up the difference and to pitch in as family members. I was raised your lift up your elders as you would want to be in that stage of life. This is the Pickersgills we thought was great for her. In some aspects it was nice. Staff always seemed present and attendant. They had a large scale for activities and encouraged the residents to go out including field trips outside of the community. However, the fairytale seemed to end. We noticed fear in my grandmother, and discovered after some research that she was being abused by a nursing staff member. This staff member was put on investigation and eventually let go. We decided not to sue since the staff member had been dismissed. However! I cannot say enough they took away my grandmothers mental health, safety and security. She lived to her mid 80s only to be disrespected and to become fearful. The best suggestion I can recommend is that you research out the facility you interested in. Come unannounced and ask for a tour. Surprise them, and it should be the same quality no matter the time of day.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

After having a number of health crises, and having to move our of her own home, my mother moved to Pickersgill Retirement Community. She lived a very isolated life before, and was not eating well.

A year a a half later, she is living a healthy life, has made very nice friends, and is happier than she has been for years.

Mom is happy, and we, her children, are happy with the facility. We are very involved with the facility caregivers, and feel that is an important component is making sure she receives good care.
