I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We saw Pickersgill Retirement Community. It was a mixed impression. I know people that live there that are happy, but we weren't shown any information on activities. There was nothing posted about menus. The other thing is they're going through major renovations. A couple of the areas were actually dowdy and stuff was worn. We would revisit that and try to get more information on that. It sounds like independent living. You're kind of on your own to form committees and that kind of stuff. There's actually two people I know that are living there right now. One that just came into assisted living. I lost touch with the other one a long time ago. We saw the assisted living dining room. We saw an apartment that they had available, and they're small. It's a lovely rural area. It's not really close to stores or anything. You would have to have transportation or use their transportation. It's a beautiful campus, lots of walking paths, and is in a nice neighborhood. If you had an emergency call, they would send a staff person who may be able to do CPR, but you may not need that. They may end up being just something else.

Caring Staff. Wonderful management of coronavirus protocols. Food is more often bad than good. The food committee worked on the problem and got nowhere.

Our experience with Pickersgill Retirement Community has been very good. The admissions person that helped us was very good and very friendly. My mother-in-law has a one-bedroom and a one bath, with a living room, and a small kitchenette. The staff has been great so far. I have had no issues. Occupational therapy has been working with her. She said the food is very good. They give her her medication and if she doesn't report to the meds station, they go to her. They have a lot of activities there, like church services and outings. They're very supportive, they have a lot of things going on for her, a lot of help if she needs it, and they do her laundry and clean her room once a week. I'm pretty satisfied with them. It's very reasonable.

I visited this facility

Pickersgill was a very good, small community. I was looking at the assisted living, and they seemed to be very attentive and do a fine job of keeping the residents active. They had movies and other entertainment and crafts.

I am/was a resident of this facility

The staff is always friendly and I like the location of Pickersgill. Overall, this was the most pleasant of all the retirement communities I visited in Towson. The atmosphere is very homelike and there are a lot of activities offered. I like playing bridge card games, exercising classes, parties and the outings.

I visited this facility

Having visited many CCRCs, Pickersgill is not as inexpensive as it first appears once the numbers are run for all levels. We are not likely to choose to move there as a couple. What is unique at Pickersgill are the two distinct levels for assisted living, in addition to nursing. Assisted living level 1 is on one floor and assisted living level 2 is on another different floor with a different medical staff. Once a couple moves out of independent living, a couple may not be able to remain together very long as couples seldom decline in tandem. Once one needs more assistance, he or she will be moved to a different floor. A couple who does not age in sync will not be able to stay together

I visited this facility

My family and I toured Pickersgill when we were looking for a retirement community for my grandfather. Pickersgill was clean, well cared for, and cheerful. All the residents looked happy and everyone we spoke with said they loved it there. The food is excellent and the staff work hard to make sure the residents are happy. There is also a full schedule of activities in which the residents can choose to take part in. The tour guide showed us around the community and explained the benefits of living at Pickersgill versus the other retirement communities in the area. My family and I were very impressed with Pickersgill.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My cousin is in a place called Pickersgill. He moved there a couple of weeks ago. They also have an assisted living facility and an extended care nursing home facility. Basically it is a continuing care community but if your money runs out, they'll continue taking care of you. They have a 24/7 staff. They also have a menu for their residents. What I like best about this community is that they have a caring attitude. It has a good reputation and they don't have to advertise that much because it is a not-for-profit organization. They have no long-term commitment and, for me, that's the main thing.

My grandma passed last year and she spent her last few years of her life at Pickersgill. She liked being there and the nursing staff was so great to her and even when she passed treated her with such dignity. I would recommend Pickersgill highly for your family member.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

After having a number of health crises, and having to move our of her own home, my mother moved to Pickersgill Retirement Community. She lived a very isolated life before, and was not eating well. A year a a half later, she is living a healthy life, has made very nice friends, and is happier than she has been for years. Mom is happy, and we, her children, are happy with the facility. We are very involved with the facility caregivers, and feel that is an important component is making sure she receives good care.
