I visited this facility

I toured the facility looking specifically at memory care. The facility was very clean. Nice courtyard. Friendly staff and lots of resident engagement.

The Retreat at Conyers was kind of on the older style, but they were remodeling. My friend wanted something a little more up-to-date. Then they were kind of on the expensive side, too. The studio apartment was small. I saw some residents sitting around. It was somewhat clean. The staff was nice. The outdoor grounds were nice.

Provider Response

Thank you for letting us know about your recent visit to The Retreat at Conyers.

I visited this facility

I went to visit The Retreat at Conyers. I would have considered their 2-bedroom, but it was still a little bit small. I am looking for something with a garage, and all of it was outside. The staff was fine. They were very helpful and gave me insight about that type of living. The facility itself was kind of small. Some areas were kind of warm. It could have been a little bit cooler and fresher. They had a courtyard. They didn't have a gym. They had a dining area. There was a game room, where you could play bingo. They also had a reading room or library. It was located close to the hospital and in good proximity to restaurants and eating places around the area.

Provider Response

Hi Gloria, thank you so much for your positive comments about The Retreat at Conyers!

I visited this facility

I toured The Retreat at Conyers. The facility was very neat and clean. The people were friendly. Their little apartments were convenient. The staff who assisted me with the tour was nice, courteous, and willing to help. They had areas where they could play games with each other. They had certain events come up. If need be, they had nurses on standby for people who need medical attention or if they need to administer medicines. The dining area was nice and convenient. It was close to the residents, so they didn't have to go too far. The building needed a little bit of painting and maintenance.

Provider Response

The Retreat at Conyers was pretty good. The apartments were nice and big. The facility was quiet and clean. The food looked healthy. The staff was great, very attentive, and answered all our questions. Everything seems to be in working order. The dining area was modern and clean. There was enough distance between the tables, so nobody was too close to each other.

I toured The Retreat at Conyers. It was very nice. It's a lovely facility. I thought it was very well put together. The person who gave the tour was very knowledgeable, friendly, kind, and had a very warm personality. Everything was very well put together. The rooms were nice. I love the upscale furnishings in the dining room area. This was a very pretty pleasant-looking, upscale-feeling facility. I think they do field trips, and they do different types of activities. The atmosphere was very clean, very upscale, and very pleasant. It would be a place that my mom would enjoy being.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I'm at The Retreat at Conyers. For them, it's hard to get help, so their services are not good at all, and they charge a lot of money. I have been here for two years now. It was very good at first, but with everything going on, it's just going downhill. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. I have oxygen, so I can't drag a tank around everywhere, and where I'm at, it's a long way down to the office and places like that. My living area is quite good because I have two outside doors, and I have a little dog, so it's easy for me to take him in and out because I have a door going out from my living room, and I have one going out from my master bedroom. Upkeep is fair. The food is awful. I have two porches. They have cards, bingo, and all that stuff like that. Some of the staff are good, but some are not. They have redone everything in my room. They repainted all my rooms, put on wood floors and so I can't say anything about that. However, value for money is not good.

I had an in-person tour of The Retreat at Conyers. They were about to have a happy hour for the residents. They had a saxophone player. The facility itself was very nice but very expensive. The woman that we spoke to was not forthcoming when we were asking about Medicaid and everything. So my niece asked her why she told us the wrong information, and she said it was a part of her sales pitch. I would appreciate it if she were totally upfront. They had a room with a refrigerator. You would have to bring or buy your own furniture, but the place was very clean, neat, and well-organized. Everybody was in uniform. The staff was personable. The residents looked very happy. The dining area was perfect. If I could afford it, I would have said yes that day. It was very impressive. They have a movie theater, a game room, a party room, and a library. The grounds were immaculate. It was a very nice facility.

We toured The Retreat at Conyers for my father. It was very spacious and had a lot of amenities. It was close to shopping and close to doctors. It has nice green space. Plus, they had a lot of social activities. They had a TV room, a game room, and a reading room. The staff was very friendly as well.

I visited this facility

We toured The Retreat at Conyers. It was very nice. The community itself is awesome. They have different levels of care to meet a senior's needs. It was awesome. They serve two meals a day. I saw some of the people eating, and the food looked really good. They have so many activities. They have movies, they have a game room, they have a beautiful outdoor space with a barbecue grill, they have a little pub, and they have entertainment. It's an awesome place. It was clean, and it was friendly. All the staff was very friendly. I love the staff, and it's a place that I would enjoy living in. I got some homemade bread, and it was delicious. They have a pub and the gentleman who runs the pub, made homemade bread and was sharing it with the staff and the people who live there. He shared it with me, and it was awesome. He makes homemade bread or different type of things for the residents and the staff. The bread was really good. I saw a one-bedroom apartment, and the living room was large. It had a full kitchen, and the bedroom was very large, too. The cable and the Wi-Fi came with it. The bathroom was very nice, clean, and handicap accessible. It was great. The place was nice. It's just nice. It had its own radio. I would highly recommend it. They also offer the medical emergency bracelet, so in the event, if a person lives there independently, if they fell or something like that, they have the emergency bracelet where the staff could get in to check on them if needed, and I like that. That's like an added security. They also have that emergency pull cord in the bathroom. It makes you feel more secure about your family member that are living there because even though it's an independent living, they still assist in making sure that they are safe and that was very important, too. The dining area was very nice, it was quaint, and it was very clean. The food smelled delicious, and it was very comfortable. It was just a quaint and comfortable atmosphere. Not the atmosphere of like a nursing home. It had a nice atmosphere like a small quaint restaurant. Upkeep was excellent. Every area that we went to was clean. The yards were well-manicured. It smelled clean, it looked clean, and it was very well maintained and taken care of. We toured not only the apartment, but we toured the outside area that looked like a small little park. It had kind of a little park feeling to it, and it was very clean and very well-maintained. It had areas where you could sit in the rocking chairs. Everything was just very well maintained. The pub was clean, and the cafeteria was clean. The movie theater was nice and clean, and there were people there enjoying the movie when we toured. The game room was clean, and there were people there playing games. I had the opportunity to interact with a lot of the residents. I asked them how they liked it, how long have they lived there, and they loved it. I never got a negative response from anyone.

We live at The Retreat at Conyers. The facility has different divisions: independent living, assisted living, and dementia. We're at a stage where with our health deteriorating, we felt safe to be here. It would be a place to be where we could get all the assistance we need. We're in independent right now working on assisted. We're still a work in progress. It's a neat place. The staff is courteous and helpful. We get a couple meals a day. The food is good. I've only been to the bingo games, and they're fun.

I went to The Retreat at Conyers. The building is nice, it's clean. The staff is great. Their stuff is separated out to where the dining is in one place, and the activity room is in another place. They also offer memory care, but I just did assisted living. The place itself is much larger than the two I've seen. Actually, they are one story, but in their assisted living area they have two stories, but everything is spread out and it's really, really nice. They have outdoor areas, so if the grandchildren come to visit over the summer you could take them outside and they could enjoy the play area out there. She said, "We have a grill outside where sometimes we cook outside over the summer." They had a place where you could get your hair done. They have a salon. She showed me a little chapel area as well.

The Retreat at Conyers was very nice. It seems to have a lot of different activities and things available for seniors living there. The apartments are nice-looking. It was a very lovely place. It just did not meet our particular needs. We looked at their independent living. The staff was very kind and very helpful. They were doing adequate security measures especially in the face of COVID. It was just a very nice place and seems to have a lot of amenities available for the residents with a lot of activities and things to do. They have a playroom for cards and they also have a little bar area there. It has lovely grounds to have some outdoor activities.

I visited this facility

My mother picked The Retreat at Conyers. It was very nice. They were just finishing up a remodel when we were there. There were some touchup painters there, but everything was clean and very pretty. They had a pool table room, a card room, a meeting room, and exercise facilities. They had pretty much all the basic rooms that everybody else has, but everything was brand new: all the carpets, the paint, the furniture, and everything. It was very nice. When they have a trivia night, bingo night, or something, they could win Monopoly cash used to purchase things in their little commissary, like basic needs, magazines, puzzle books, laundry detergent or just any little things that might be a little necessity or a little want. They were the only place we went to that had a little outdoor area for the grandkids who visit. The main building is separated a little bit from all the apartments, but everything's attached by covered walkways. It's like walking down another hallway. They also had an enclosed little area where you could let your dog run, which was something she was looking for. They had different parlors on each floor where the residents from those particular floors can sit and hang out. The laundry facilities were not in the room, but they were right next to these parlors. You could come and do a load of your wash and hang out, play cards, or do different things. They have housekeeping every week. They have full kitchens in their rooms, so she could cook or do whatever she wants. Her particular unit has two balconies on it, so she likes that a lot. They have the playground outside. They have another strip where they have outdoor activities. They also have a barbecue grill out there. The dining room was very, very nice, and they put in a new bar. It's just very pretty there. It's not as expensive as the others, but just as nice. They provide two meals a day: breakfast and your choice of either lunch or dinner. If they want all three meals, it would be like just an extra $150 a month, which is very reasonable if you're thinking $5 a meal.

I was really interested in The Retreat at Conyers. They have assisted living and independent living. It's a very nice place with very nice people. The visit was excellent, I had a tour within the independent living because that's where I intended to move. I liked, most of all, the friendliness of the staff. They were very thorough and Leslie was excellent. I liked the units that I looked at, the 1-bedroom and the studio. They were very up-to-date and they had mostly everything that a person would like if they were to move in. I liked the activities too. The dining hall was updated. I had lunch there and the food was very good. They've been doing a lot of renovating too. When someone moves out, they would redo the laminated floors.

I visited this facility

The Retreat at Conyers has a building that looks like a regular apartment house that's used for their independent living. Then they have another building where people are needing more help, their assisted living section. Then they have a section for Alzheimer's patients, and I think they have people from hospice come in as well. They have recreation programs for all of those who can participate. They have a beautiful landscape area, you don't feel like you're in a nursing home facility. It's very nice and the prices are right too. Independent living is $2,800, and for a second person it's $800. We got to talk to the cook during the visit, and everybody says the food is wonderful. They haven't had any COVID breakouts.

I visited this facility

I've been to The Retreat at Conyers a couple of times and I have a feeling they may not have any openings right now because their staff has not called me lately. My doctors are out in that area of town, so sometimes when I was going to the doctor, I would just stop by and if the staff had time, she'd talk with me or show me the facility. I've been in one or two of the apartments there, but I guess it just wasn't good timing because it didn't work out. The staff was very sweet, very good, took me around, and talked to me about whatever. That's been a couple of months or so ago, so the Covid thing was still fairly strong, you couldn't really go around like you probably would like to, but we did the best that we could. I liked the location. It's maybe 10 miles or so from where I currently live, so for my family's sake, that would be convenient. I met a couple residents and they were all real nice, and the staff during the tour was very helpful. She gave me a lunch to take home one of the days, and it was okay.

Provider Response

We chose The Retreat at Conyers, basically because my mother was familiar with the area. Her room was very spacious, but due to coronavirus, no one was allowed inside. Because of coronavirus, they don't have activities right now. I think most of the food is pretty good. They have all the activities but they're not using them right now. There's the coronavirus, and you can't do anything.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My friend is at The Retreat at Conyers. I plan on moving her because the staff has changed and the nursing care was dropping. By the time I said, "You got major problems over here," things started to get better. I can't rate them because we're not allowed to go inside. There is no way for us to evaluate them. My friend can't give me feedback. I have no way of knowing if she's getting her shower twice a week, if she's staying dry, and how her skin is. I can't do that. I'm an RN and I have no ability to assess. I have to trust in them totally. I find from other people in assisted living that this is the same thing everywhere during this horrible virus. About 50% of the staff members that were there in January when I was able to interact with them are not there now, so I can't tell you about the new staff. That was the major concern. I have no way of knowing the abilities of the staff, the caring of the staff, and everything else. My friend has hospice with her, and she has started to decline. The facility was very nice and the food was good when I could go. They were doing quite well. There was not a problem until the families were shut out, and then she started to go down to isolation. These people weren't even allowed to go into the dining room in their building. Their building has 30 patients in it with a separate dining area, and everything is all together, but they're forced to be in their rooms for two months. They could come to the door and that's it, and that was just devastating mentally for them. Every November the costs go up and so the difference now is probably $1,000 more a month compared to how it was when she first moved in, and that's a lot.

It is nice and the people are friendly, but they have to go outside and walk down a walkway to get to the main dining hall. You can have your meals brought to you, but for people who like to dine in the dining hall, you have to walk outside for three or four minutes to get there. This place has both assisted and independent living. The staff is nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. The apartment that she is getting is very nice. My mother likes it. It has a full size refrigerator, a built-in microwave, the bedroom is big enough to fit her full size bed, and the bathroom and the living room are a nice size. It's a very comfortable apartment just for her. She can get two meals a day, and she can get a third if she pays for it. They do different types of activities and it's very clean.

It was a very beautiful place, and the apartments were extremely nice. It’s got a chapel built right in down on the first floor, a little movie theater for the residents where they show movies a couple of times a week, and a cafeteria which is nice, and the food is good. Very nice setting and very close to hospital and doctors offices.

Our visiting experience was great. Unfortunately, the apartment that was available didn’t have a shower. It only had a bath tub, so my mom wouldn’t take it. I think they had a salon; there was an exercise area and a library. It was really nice. There was stuff going almost every day. They had arts and crafts. Two days a week they would take them out to doctor appointments or shopping. It was a community dining room, and it was restaurant service. With the independent-living, it’s one meal a day. If you wanted to do more, it was like $5 a day for each meal. The apartment had its own kitchen and a stove. You can cook for yourself -- which was nice.

It was an excellent facility, unlike the facility where my mom is now. They have aging in place and as your life changes, the quality of care can change and it could be upgraded so you wouldn’t have to leave to go to another facility. What I also like is that they have independent living as well as a whole section of one-bedroom apartments so you can live there on your own and have a kitchen to cook for yourself. Part of their amenities package is you get to have one meal a day at the assisted care facility -- it’s your choice of whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner. You also get the benefit of participating in any of the activities. Once again, you could live independently, but you’re not alone. You don’t feel like you are by yourself. I didn’t see the independent living apartments, but I saw the apartments in the assisted living area. The apartments were nice -- they were like studio apartments and they had a bathroom. You could also have your own refrigerator and microwave. People in the assisted living section got all of their meals with the program and you have your personal furniture there.

People who were in the facility looked very well taken care of and they were very, very happy. The place was immaculate. The elderly people who were in wheel chairs were truly very happy people; they were just ecstatic. I've never seen that in a nursing home or anywhere where there was so much happiness in an elderly home. I've visited some residents that were bedridden and in separate rooms, and they were very clean, very rested, and very well taken care of.

It is close by my residence. Aside from the location, we also chose this facility because my mother liked it best among the facilities we visited. I also like that it is a large campus. There are plenty of places to go. There is independent living on one side and assisted living on the other side. My mom is in the independent living for about a week now. Their rooms seem to be nice. Regarding activities, there seems to be an abundance of them there. They have bingo, exercise, arts and crafts, puzzles, etc. In fact, my mother has already participated in a few of them. They have a real nice lunch, which is their main meal, and they would serve it in such a way that people are sitting together and nobody is left out. I've eaten there more than once. It's not homecooking but it's good. My mom was under a lot of stress going into a place like this, but we have seen great improvement so far. Right now, she seems to be satisfied being there.

Prior to moving in we speak with you and your physician to find just the right level of assistance that will allow you to enjoy your independence to the fullest. Together, we will compose a Care Plan to guide us in assisting you. Our mission is to provide a lifestyle that fosters independence, actively engages the mind, invigorates the body and nurtures the spirit while offering you and your loved ones the peace of mind you deserve.
