So far, I liked Greenspring. Overall, the community is fantastic. That is my number one choice for my parents because it is a vibrant, large, well-appointed community. A few years ago, they started doing renovation, and so they're cycling through their renovations. The cool thing is, on every door of every domicile, there's a small indicator that is flipped up every night at midnight, and if it's not moved by the door opening by the resident by noon the next day, they call to follow up. I love that. Nobody else has that. It's the security factor, and it's not invasive, so they don't feel like they're reduced to a child. It preserves their dignity and their privacy while being concerned for their safety. It's like a little city where they have their own bank and their own CVS right there on site. The CVS is a full pharmacy that will deliver prescriptions to their unit upon request. They have five different restaurants going up to seven. It's like a cruise ship on land. It's fantastic. There's a protective eight-foot fence all the way around, but there's a fence door that allows you to leave the community and go walking on a five-mile trail if you choose. You have to have an entry code to access that gate. It's a wrought iron gate. It's 5 minutes from my house. It is beautiful. It is nestled in the middle of some woods. It's gorgeous. A lot is going on there. The buzz was there. It's vibrant, active, and lively. They have a wonderful gym, and each building has its own salon and a smaller gym. The amenities are fantastic. They have different floor plans from a studio to a two-bedroom with a den. They are lovely and they're in different stages of refurbishment. They're going from like carpeting everywhere to laminate flooring that looks like hardwood and then carpeting the bedroom. It's very nice. Each one of the units, their heating and air conditioning, are individually controlled. They sent me home with a meal, and it was lovely. They took me to the cafeteria. I got a salad and other things available, and I was kind of checking out everybody's plates. Mine was made to order, but across from me was another kind of made-to-order/cafeteria-style thing where you could either point at stuff or get it made for you and it was all in one area. They have multiple chefs who handle all the different restaurants.

My mother is in Greenspring. In general, for independent living, they do a good job. They offer a fair amount of services. They have a lot of options for meals. They have a good medical center. They keep the place upgraded and updated fairly well, so nothing gets too run down. There are numerous activities for people who like that. In general, I think for people who are still able to live independently, it is a good community. Our interaction has been fairly positive with the staff. My mother's in a 1-bedroom apartment. The only downside was they were slow to do things like replace carpet, which they are supposed to do after ten years. It took another maybe two years for them to do that, so they are a little slow on upgrades. They upgrade the common areas very well, like the restaurants, all the hallways, and everything. When it comes to upgrading individual apartments, they're a little less responsive. The food is pretty decent. There are a lot of different options. They have a lot of activities. There are over a hundred different groups people can join. They have a non-denominational chapel that brings in different people from different churches. There are a lot of people who play Bridge or other kinds of games. They have a fitness center and some classes for people who want to partake in that. Almost anything you'd want to do, you can probably do there.

I toured Greenspring. It was very impressive. The campus is very, very well maintained. The buildings are very well-designed and well-kept. The rooms are a little smaller than at other places but very attractive and very well-kept. I tried their food, and it was very good. As far as I can tell, the menu was very well-designed and quite varied. They have quite a few activities and their amenities seemed very well designed and very much an incentive. They had a very attractive indoor pool, a very good fitness center, a very good game room, and very good meeting facilities.

Greenspring is a very large community that gives you lots of options for friends and activities. They have a lot of dining options. They have a swimming pool. They have covered areas that get sun, but you don't get a suntan. They have a lot of parking and a lot of security. It was clean and maintained. There were maintenance people all over the place.

My issue is concerning the storage bins on site for residents. I had a suitcase in a relative's storage bin for a few weeks. When it was retrieved several small expensive items were missing. Blood pressure cuff, cell phone etc. The large items were still in case. There was a lock on the bin. When I alerted General services and security they could clearly care less. They said to their knowledge this has never happened. Who knows how many seniors are missing items that they don't even know about yet. I would never live there based on their lack of response or concern for other residents belongings.

I was visiting somebody that lived in a senior living community. Everybody was very happy, very cordial, and very welcoming. Food was good. We were just visiting a friend. I went there off of Fairfax County Parkway. My friend had her own apartment. The staff was great. The residents were great.
