Garitio Manor was really nice. It was too large and there were too many residents. I was concerned that my ex-husband would get lost in there. The staff was very nice. They took us on a tour. But it felt like being in a hotel.
Garito Manor is an awesome community - it was actually the first senior living community to "go green" in the county, so that has always pit them a step ahead of the rest. The residents are all very comfortable living there - they have a lifestyle of options and choice - they are able to choose what they want to do and when they want to do it and they like having that sense of independence and control over their lives - they see that living in here is just like living on their own out there as far as having independence and freedom of choice - it's just different because in here, they are NOT alone - they are surrounded by many people who love and care for them and well-being. It's also different because they no longer have to worry about the hassles of home ownership or mundane day-to-day tasks or anything else for that matter, because the staff members are here to do all of those things for them so that they can have fun with friends and family and enjoy the kind of lifestyle they've always dreamed of - so they see that living in here is just like living out there - it's only so, so much better.
The community is beautiful, there are so many things to see and do and enjoy. Whether you want to be indoors or out - there are many activities to choose from - or you can just enjoy some alone time. There is so much around the community that the residents can fill their days with, so many exciting and creative happenings and activities to choose from and participate in. It seems like there is always some social event or party or group entertainment happening around the community. Many of the residents also really enjoy the special outings they go out on together - the staff schedule many outings that the residents really enjoy and the community is in a great location as it is only short distance away from many exciting entertainment options for the residents.
The residents also love doing things around the community - they are always happy to help out in any way they can. They like to feel needed and like to feel like they are making a difference. One resident told me once that this community has given her so much, such an amazing life that she tries to help out wherever she is needed as a way to kind of give back to a community who has "been so great to her". The staff also help the residents get involved in special volunteer projects, the residents love to volunteer in the New Rochelle and surrounding communities, they love to help those less fortunate - especially during this time of year. They like to feel as if they still have purpose and are still capable of contributing to society.
Garito Manor at Union Square is an excellent community and I love to always go and see those smiling faces of all the residents - they always look so incredibly happy and that is all I ever wish for in these communities I visit - I wish I could see that level of happiness in every community.
