We did a tour of Holiday The Manor At Oakridge. The room setup was nice, there was one particular apartment that my mom liked. They told us there were going to be some updates next year, like the rugs in the hallways and I think the dining area which needed it. The lady that we toured with did say that they were getting things updated and painted and just a refresh. But the rooms that we saw were clean, they were spotless, and the floor plan was nice. In terms of services and amenities, the ones that were important to us were the inclusion of meals and then there were activities provided. I believe there were rides to the grocery store and to doctor's appointments if needed. The staff who gave us the tour was very informative.

Holiday The Manor at Oakridge was horrible and dirty. It was supposed to be independent, but they should have said it was a nursing home. There was an ambulance coming probably two or three times a week. I don't like anything nice about it, it was awful. The carpets were filthy. In the dining room, the wait staff was never there. They hired kids that didn't show up. The cook would come out and say, 'Well, I'm the only cook today, so the only thing that you can have for breakfast is pancakes and bacon.' It was just poorly staffed. I was supposed to get my apartment cleaned once a week, but no. I was there for six months, and it was cleaned once because they did not have housekeeping people. They didn't have enough staff, so that was the problem. There weren't enough people taking care of the dining room, there wasn't any housekeeping, and the maintenance guy was pitiful. All he did was walk around and it looked like he was trying to be busy, but he didn't do diddly squat. There was only one person that was doing their job and that was the assistant manager. With regards to food, they would put stuff on the menu to make it sound like it's going to be something good, but it was like, no, don't even think about it being good, it was bad. When people found out I was leaving, they said, 'We would leave, too, but we don't have any place else to go.' There were a lot of people there who were not happy, but they had no place else to go, so they were stuck there. As for activities, they hired a new activity person, and she was good. She was trying her darndest to get things. She was new, she was young, and she was trying new things.

I liked everything about Holiday The Manor At Oakridge. There was nothing I didn't like. They were very accommodating. This is the place that I had visited that I wanted my husband to agree to go to. It was more a matter of he did not have the funds available to move in there yet because he's still waiting to get his Social Security and have that started, so he was not able to afford it, and that's the big flag. They showed me a studio, which would have been the actual studio apartment that my husband would have gotten had he moved on it quicker. And it was more than accommodating because where he's at right now, he has a room, and that's it. This place had a small kitchenette and its own bathroom. It was just like a small apartment. He would have a private balcony, and then the room size was adequate for a bed and a recliner or a loveseat. It had three closets. It was very clean. They have cleaning people that come in, so he wouldn't even have to do that, although I think he would have. The few staff that I met were all wonderful. The dining room was like you were in a restaurant. They have servers come to your table, and they offer you a menu with maybe five things per meal that you can choose from yourself. You can sit there in the dining room with other people, or you can take your tray to your room. The meals looked good, and there was a variety, so I thought that was wonderful. They do about a hundred different activities a month, and they have separate rooms. They have an exercise room, a library, and a game room with a pool table and poker tables. They have laundry facilities free of charge on every floor. The only thing he would have to have paid extra for is a haircut, and they have a salon on the third floor of the place. But everything else was inclusive so I think it was well worth it. There was a resident director there and she was as personable as could be. I felt like I knew her. She was very open and very real. She didn't sugarcoat anything. She was willing to help me get him in there by waiving the usual deposit. Knowing his financial situation, she was able to get that portion waived for me, so he just had to start paying by the month. I liked it because he would have to have signed a 90-day lease and that's it, and then it goes month to month after that.

I am pleased to say that our whole family is elated with the service and kindness the staff at Manor at Oakridge has given our brother. He is living there for 8 mos. and even during universal staffing shortages, they are committed to providing meals, housekeeping, salon services, transportation, and activities on a regular basis. My brother who is 55 and is handicapped, remained safe and still does during the Covid Pandemic with stringent safety measures and vaccines available in house.

I liked The Manor at Oakridge and it's close to my home. We were impressed with all of the amenities. The facility itself was attractive and very clean and seemed to be well run. They had indicated that they had a lot of activities that they do with the people that live there. I was very impressed with the management. We just liked it overall. Even the dining facility was very nicely set up and it seemed to be well run. Though we didn't stay for a meal, we were impressed with the way that they had it set up with a menu and everything. It's like a restaurant. The people go and sit at the table and there's a menu there that they can choose from, and then someone comes around and takes their order like a restaurant. The apartment that they showed us for my sister was a one-bedroom and it was very, very nice, had lots of storage and it was very clean. It did not have a cooking facility, which made us happy because she doesn't need that. We'd be concerned if there was a stove in there and there is not. We were impressed with the whole layout and the management was very impressive as well. They do all the cooking for these people and they check on them and they would take them to the doctor if I can't do it. They had different outings and things like that. My nephew and I were very impressed with the whole thing. The staff during the tour was very knowledgeable and very personable. During the tour, we ran into a couple of the residents and they seemed to like him very much. The whole atmosphere was very comforting to me. When I spoke with one of the staff members, it impressed me that her own mother is a resident there as well, and she has been for a couple of years, I believe. That speaks volumes to me. The food smelled good, but we didn't have time to taste it. There was a refrigerator in the apartment, and it was enough for me. Any kind of appliance makes me nervous a little bit.
