The thing I like about Atria Tanglewood the most is that the residents and staff are like this united front, they are so close and so proud of their home, they love showing it off and telling people about it. They are very supportive and protective of their home and of each other. If you happen to call Atria Tanglewood a "facility" in front of the residents they will be so quick to correct you by saying that they are not a "facility" that they are a "community" or a "family" but NOT a facility - one resident told me that the word facility sounds too clinical and too cold and she said that is not how the community is. She said their community, their home is loving and accepting and warm and should be described as such. I think it's awesome that they "defend" the community and the way people see the community - the residents will be the first to tell you that it is home - and shouldn't be referred to as anything but.

The community is very lovely, very homey and has this warmth about it, but at the same time it feels open and airy and cheerful, you have room to breathe and to express yourself, your personality. The staff and residents do not expect you to be or act in any other way than who you are, the staff encourage the residents to embrace their individuality and be proud of it so there are many areas throughout the community where the residents have an ample amount of space to express themselves and their personalities through pursuing their dreams, through socializing, group discussions and debates, through social events, resident special interest clubs, parties, and celebrations, through various activities, arts & crafts, music, and personal hobbies and interests, through volunteer projects, community outreach, and keeping involved in Tanglewood/Lynbrook community events and SO VERY MUCH MORE! There are so many ways that a resident is able to express themselves, their opinions, their beliefs, their talents and skills and they are always celebrated because of all the things that make them unique. The staff members go out of their way, every day, to try to show and help the residents see how exceptionally special each and everyone of them really is and how they should be so proud of themselves for all that they are - that they sould never feel ashamed for any of it. Another thing about the staff and the residents is that they are some of the most accepting people I have come to know. I watch them with new residents that move in to the community and they are so welcoming and so ready to help out the new resident in any way the the resident may need. They eat meals with them, introduce them to other residents, encourade them to join in actitivities with them and so much more.

I have heard so many families compliment about how easy it was for their loved one adjust to life in the community, about how incredibly nice and welcoming everyone was and how. They say that they also, along with their loved ones, became comfortable to life in the community very quickly. Families are very involved in the community, I always see family members hanging out around the community with their loved ones and other residents and families. I really like how close they are as a community and I hope that they will continue on this way because it really is what makes Atria Tanglewood so, so, so special!
