I am a friend or relative of a resident
After living for over 25 years in a condo, on her own for a majority of those years after my father-in-law passed away, and having many falls, my mother-in-law, quite reluctantly, moved into Chesterfield Villas, a luxury retirement community. Mom was not a happy camper. She wanted to be "alone" to read her books and watch the Game Show Network day in and day out. She did go out twice a week. One day to an exercise class and the other day my husband took her to get her hair done and then to the grocery. Mom did admit to us, after a tour of the Villas, that she liked the brightness, friendliness, and many and varied activities that were offered on a daily basis......but that she still was mad at us for "making" her leave her security. After a huge adjustment of about 3 weeks....and now after being a resident for a few months, mom is so very happy and well adjusted. The Villas offers a lot of activities every week. Mom can Wii Bowl, go out to lunch at different restaurants on a weekly basis, go for an hour drive around St. Louis, visit the mall and groceries, attend in-house entertainment, go to exercise and crafts and cooking classes and so on. Oh, everyday at 4:00 is Happy Hour :) The Villas cleans her apartment once a week, changes her sheets, does her laundry and assists her in any way that she may need. Mom is eating!!! She always said she ate well in her Condo but that is so far from the truth. She loves her lunch and dinner meals (and has gained much needed weight) . She enjoys her dining companions. She actually has come out from her shell and is thriving. We, her family, are most-pleased with mom's lifestyle and security....and most importantly her happiness. My mother-in-law is 93 years young.
