At Beaverton Lodge the main focus, from what I have seen, is the residents. The management team and support staff seem devoted and determined in making the facility a perfect place for the residents to call home, but more than that they are always going out of their way to ensure that the residents also "feel" at home. They want the residents to feel comfortable, one of the staff members once told me is the last thing they want is for a resident to feel awkward or uncomfortable in their surroundings, they want them to feel comfortable about relaxing in the common areas or letting their great grandchildren run around and play or walking around the facility at night if they can't sleep. The staff member told me that a lot of the residents who find themselves unable to sleep at night will just stay in their apartments and hope that they can eventually find slumber, but she said asked me, if they were still living at home and they couldn't sleep what would they do? They would probably come out of their bedrooms, walk around, try to watch TV, drink some tea or a glass of milk, etc. until they felt tired enough to fall asleep. She said that is what she wants the residents to do here as well. If they can't sleep, come out in to the facility and watch TV or have some tea, do whatever you need to do to be able to get some rest. Keeping yourself in your apartment is only going to frustrate you even more, so she said she wants to see the resident utilizing all the facility has to offer at any hour and feel comfortable about doing so.

I like the fact that they made such a nice looking facility affordable for the residents. Most "affordable" facilities I have seen appear pretty ran down and they don't offer the residents many amenities, services, activities, etc. Basically in senior living - it's true that you get what you pay for - however, at Beaverton Lodge, the facility is beautiful and very clean and well-kept inside and out. There are many, many, many opportunities, amenities, activities, and such for the residents to choose from and there are many things for them to do indoors and out that will help them in maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. So while I have not had the best of experiences with communities claiming to be "affordable," I can confidently say that at Beaverton Lodge, you are getting MORE then what you paid for as there are no entry fees or heavy buy-ins.

It always seems like a very active community with residents who like to be around one another and do things together in groups. They all seem to get along nicely and they seem very supportive, loving, and protective of each other. I like that they all appear so happy and comfortable with each other and the community.

I really like the way the community is designed, it is constructed in a 3-story formation with apartment buildings on either side of a building they call the "Central Building". The apartments are all connected to the Central Building through walkway-type corridors. The Central Building is where residents go to socialize, participate in activities and programs, spend time with friends and family, watch movies, excercise, take advantage of all the services and amenities, administrative matters, and everything else. I love how community is so focused on making everything convenient for the residents. The Central Building is where you'll find all the common areas, a convenient little market, kitchen and dining room area, including a private dining area for private family gatherings, different activity areas for arts and crafts, painting/drawing, other hobbies, etc, movie theater, a greenhouse (for those who are passionate about gardening), library, a beauty salon and barber shop, computer lab area, and much more (I know I am forgetting a lot of amenities!). There is also an awesome indoor pool and gym.

The residents apartments are also great, they are spacious and bright. They are designed safely and every area of the apartments are easily accessible. There are lots of different floorplans to choose from so the residents get to choose the type of layout they want and sometimes they even have a choice in the location of their apartment with in the community. It's just like when you go to an apartment complex to lease an apartment, most of the time you get a choice in floor plans and you usually get to pick the location in the complex out of the apartments available with your chosen floor plan. Another great thing about the apartments is that the residents can do with them what they wish. They can decorate them the way they want, they can change the things that come standard with the apartments, such as blinds, any furnishings, etc. There apartment is their home, they can even have family over to spend the night in their apartments if they wish. I know a couple residents who often have their grandchildren spend the night, which is a lot of fun for the kids and great for the residents. Children really love the community, I always see them running up and down the connecting corridors, pretending to do each other's hair in the beauty salon while their grandparent or great-grandparent is getting their hair cut, they love to watch movies in the theater, do arts and crafts with the residents in one of the activity areas, even go for a swim once in a while. I think the kids who visit Beaverton Lodge love it just as much as the residents.

The staff want the residents to feel as independent and "in control" of their lives as possible so the residents are always a part of any decisions involving them as well as any decisions relating to the community itself. The staff members always say that the facility is the residents home so they should have a say in any decisions being made about their home. So aside from being able to choose their own floor plan, there are also many other choices that they have on a daily basis.

The facility is in an ideal location, it is convenient and has stores, churches, restaurants, etc. close by but the area is still very quiet and rural feeling. The grounds of the facility are beautiful and there are many outdoor activities the residents can partake in without having to worry about being surrounded by the dangers and inconveniences of a large city such as traffic, crowds, pollutions, etc. However, if the residents want to spend an afternoon or evening in the city, Portland is less than 10 miles away.

I am always really impressed by Beaverton Lodge and it's care team, I love that the residents are their highest priority and I really like that they made such a beautiful community affordable so that residents can live in a exceptional and stunning community without having to break the bank or squander their life savings. I wish that more affordable living facilities were like Beaverton Lodge, just because it's affordable living doesn't mean that residents don't deserve quality, comfort, beauty, and accommodation. Beaverton Lodge get's this and offers their residents all of the above and much, much more.
