I am a friend or relative of a resident

It seems to be expensive and the building is out dated and costing them to much money for what you get. I find that the people are nice and the staff is there to try to make it as nice as possible. But they need more laundry area so those who live there could have better use of it. The rooms are hot in the summer and cold in the winter. I know that there isn't much more they could do but it just isn't homey or inviting.

The staff at The Villas really encourages family involvement, I always see families there spending time with their loved ones. Many of the activities, parties, and events scheduled at the facility welcome family participation. There are also many areas where the residents and their family members can spend time together. I often see families in the TV room watching TV, or playing with board games, cards, or puzzles. I love the fact that in the library there's a section of children's books that the residents can read to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. What's also so nice is that the families become close with the other residents as well, so the residents feel comfortable with all of the visitors being in the facility.

The staff members, for the most part, treat each resident with respect and dignity. There are a couple of situations where I have witnessed issues between a couple of staff members and some of the residents that made me really angry, but these issues have since been dealt with. I realize that being a staff member in an assisted living facility means that there are a lot of people relying on you for care, and at times it can get very chaotic and busy, but it is during those times that I like to see how a staff member interacts with a resident. It is that type of situation where a person's true colors really come to light, and I have to say that most of the staff members handle stressful situations calmly and professionally with a friendly bedside manner and a positive attitude. When a staff member acts hurried, stressed, irritated, angry it reflect negatively on the residents, and the residents can become stressed out. It makes the staff appear unapproachable which in turn can make a resident feel scared to ask for them for help. However, the care team as a whole seems to work very well under pressure, and I have seen them work great together as a team in stressful situations. I would feel comfortable relying on these staff members in the event of an emergency.

Most of the residents like to follow very active lifestyles, and over the course of my visits I have learned that they are a very social bunch of residents so it is s great thing that there are so many activities and opportunities available to the residents. The staff encourage the residents to find new hobbies and things they like to do and they assist in getting the resident involved in new experiences. I know a group of residents who love to paint, so the staff provide them with the easels and supplies needed in order to paint. There are many, many fun and interesting things for the residents to fill their days with.

I really do like The Villas, I think that the staff for the most part are outstanding, the issues that I had with staff behavior is no longer an issue, I have seen those staff members work really hard at being more professional and on not taking their stress out on residents. My last visit to The Villas was on a particularly busy day and I am pleased to say that those staff members were acting much better. I think that this is a good facility and it is worth checking in to. I don't think there are any issues that are to big to be rectified, so give them a chance, I wouldn't recommend a facility if I didn't think it was a good facility or had amazing potential.
