Inspiration for this Nomination:

Adversity is a word that is commonly spoken in Home Instead Senior Care, as we discuss clients and their own challenges. What we don't always realize is the adversity faced by our CAREGivers in their own lives, because they focus on the needs of the clients. One of our own CAREGivers exemplifies overcoming adversity and taking that strength and faith to accept and triumph over any obstacle she may face.Peggy has had to deal with different physical limitations throughout her life. She was born with double scoliosis occulta spina bifida and a genetic nerve disorder which leads to eventual total hearing loss. Her parents never let the disability get the best of her, nor did they treat her any differently because of the disease. They taught her the values we see every day at Home Instead Senior Care, and those values drive Peggy to believe in her clients and what she can do for them. Peggy has worn a back brace and is in chronic pain every day, although it you would never hear that from her. Never once, has she stated she couldn't work, because she was in pain.

Caregiver's Best Skills and Attributes:

She puts others first and despite hearing difficulties, will easily hold a robust conversation. Many of her clients and family members have expressed how much they appreciate the services that Peggy brings into her clients lives.

Feedback About This Caregiver:

Many of the clients have told our office that Peggy is the bright spot in their life. This is evident in the fact that so many of her clients request Peggy to be their caregiver. We have had inquiry calls to our office because of the kind care Peggy has provided, they call requesting "that caregiver, Peggy". She can be seen volunteering at many of the HISC sponsored events such as the Alzheimer's Walk and the Livestrong yard sale. She is a great example for our newer caregivers who are nervous and need that extra encouragement to get the job done. If we need a quick startup or if are having trouble getting a client to accept help, we call our Peggy.

More About This Caregiver:

Peggy's strong Catholic faith is evident in all of her endeavors. Peggy told me that although she was born with physical limitations, God blessed her with a strong mind. She always wanted to be a nurse, but because of her physical limitations she was not able to pursue that dream. It is her belief that God directed her towards Home Instead Senior Care. By working with Home Instead Senior Care, she is able to share her nurturing gift with her clients. She has rarely called off, putting her concern and attention to her clients first. She understands and helps them cope and adapt to limitations, just as she has done.
