Caregiver: Karen (KC) E.

Employer: 1st in ProActive Care

Location: Kernersville, North Carolina

Inspiration for this Nomination:

She devoted herself to the family and the frail client. During the time she was working, her husband who had survived cancer, but was in chronic pain, took his own life to spare her from worrying about him. She took only one week off,( we all wanted her to take more time) then went back to her client. She knew that the woman was in her final days so she went nearly every day, AM and PM, to comfort her, turn her, soothe her for the next four months. She was with her when she passed. The family is in love with her soul and endless compassion for others.

Caregiver's Best Skills and Attributes:

Her heart is huge and her compassion shows towards all living things. She exudes warmth and understands that all living beings deserve respect and kindness. She would be the first one coming forward to help a stranger, without any thought to the action.

Feedback About This Caregiver:

She works almost exclusively with one client and ws considered a member of their family. However she did some emergency PRN and everyone was impressed with her professionalism and caring manner. When that client passed we received a note..." Sending KC to care for our Mother and Wife was one of God's many blessings. She just became one of our family and her help was super. Mama loved her as she would her own."

More About This Caregiver:

What others have learned from this caregiver: Patience and listening, just holding or touching their hands, gently. She was also a licensed message therapist, as well as a mental health professional.

She was called upon to help out with an elderly couple in serious need of cleaning to even get to the bathtub. It was a nasty job, but she was there, pitching in, on her own time. That is what she does. She knew that money was scarce and that they had a need.
