I interviewed this provider

I have very mixed feelings about this home health care provider. First let me say that I loved both the speech and physical therapists that worked with my husband. Both were very knowledgeable, patient, and understanding. But, more than that, they were very personable and forged a bond with my husband that contributed to his improvement in both areas.

However, the nurse assigned to the case was very unknowledgeable in my husband’s condition and reported some incidents in a negative fashion which resulted in not receiving all the services we would have normally received. She had only seen my husband once, and came back a second time which was not convenient to us because he had just had an hour of therapy and really didn’t want to be bothered with her. She told us she had to come because she was going on vacation the following week. I should have told her "No" and scheduled for when she would be back or asked for another nurse to be assigned. But, little did I know then what I know now and how a negative, untrue report can affect your care. The therapists tried to advocate for us and give correct information, but they did not succeed in getting us all the services we should have been provided with, naming a home health aide for several hours a week. This would have been extremely helpful to me in the care of my husband.

The social worker was very nice and when she left us we felt elated for the first time in a very long while. She had told us about all the services available and they sounded terrific- more than we could ever hope for. However, after she left and I started to make calls, I found out that we did not qualify for any of them. Our hopes were crushed and I felt like I wasted my valuable time making these calls and that she gave my husband false hope.

My advice if you use this agency and do not like the intake nurse is to call and ask for another one. I would rate the therapists a 5 out of 5; the nurse and social worker a 1 only because they did show up, but were unknowledgable, with an overall rating 2 because having access to all services is extremely important in anyone’s care and in my experience this agency did not embrace that philosophy.
