I visited this facility

We toured Mennonite Friendship Communities. It was nice. We liked it very well. There was outside access for my in-laws like a patio directly from their apartment, or they could be inside to a hallway from another door. It was neat, very well kept indoors and out, and there seemed to be lots of activity. The staff was excellent. She was very friendly. The dining area was very neat and clean. They have a large library. They have a machine that could enlarge the print to look at things. They have a rather large wood workshop, and it has lots of equipment in it. They have a beauty shop and an area they met for chapel services. They have a pool room and an outdoor pond where they could go fishing. They have an on-staff home health nurse that the residents could visit with. They also have a laundry room. It was a big laundry room where the residents could do their own if they wish to.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Mennonite Friendship Manor is very nice. They're very congenial people. The place is very clean and they seem to be pretty efficient. My husband is in rehab, and they're doing physical therapy with him which is tremendous. He has made a lot of progress in the months that we've been here. I have an opportunity for a lot of social things that are available, but I haven't taken part in it yet. There's a lot to do here if you want to do it. The food is very good. The caregivers are very caring and help him. He has kind of a dry sense of humor and they get along fine. He's always telling them stories and things, so he enjoys them and they enjoy him it seems. We came around the 1st of November, and he's been very sick. He's making tremendous progress getting well, but he still can't walk alone. The cleanliness is very good. There are a lot of activities, like a Christmas program on December 8th in the afternoon, a movie at 2:00 on Tuesday the 12th, and they're celebrating National Monkey Day on Thursday, December the 14th. They're also taking a trip to Stutzmans, which is a greenhouse where they raise a lot of poinsettias. They have church services on Tuesday and bingo. They are lots of other programs happening, and they're starting a walking opportunity in the activity center to help people with their balance. We checked out several other places in the area and this is probably the most complete that we found for the price. They don't have a lot of equipment, but they had several therapists and he works a total of three hours every morning. If he gets too tired, they'll let him rest and then he'll finish up his stuff in the afternoon. It's really geared to how much he can tolerate it, and they're very patient with him.

I visited this facility

The person I spoke with at Mennonite Friendship Manor was very informative, very upfront, welcoming, and gave me a tour of the place. It was not the place I would put my husband in because it's so big, and he'll get so confused finding his room or bathroom. The room has its own sink, a shared toilet with the room next door, and a separate area for bathing and shower. The residents could use a tablet to listen to music and watch things that would be stimulating, but it felt like I was supposed to be there to do that with him. There were some residents who were happily decorating for Christmas the day we were there, and another group of residents were playing cards.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is in Mennonite Friendship Communities. We chose it because it is reasonably priced, and we can afford it. As she gets better, there are a lot of options if she wants to stay there. We are hoping she gets to go home, but it is not going to be possible; she can move back into one of the duplexes. They have income-based duplexes. If somebody made $2,000 or less, they could be in the campus with one of those duplexes and go to the main house for all the activities or whatever, but there is no maintenance at all. It is much more affordable than anything that I have found. It is not fancy. It does not look like the white house, but it is very nice. It is a nice place to visit. They do have exercise classes Mondays through Fridays. Every other day, they have sit and be fit, and every other day, they have strings and balance exercise; that is going to be really important for her. They also have a wood shop, a hobby room where you can go and do whatever you want. They have sewing machines. If you want to bring your own stuff in there, you can set up whatever you want to do. They have a big room with a coffee machine for the residents to use. There is a little general store, and some of the residents work there. They volunteer their hours to work there. They also have a shop which the things that are donated to them, they clean them up, put them in the shop, and sell them, and all that money goes back into making the place affordable to anyone that needs it. However, they really have a high staff turnover which surprises me.
