I was in Hearthstone for 4 weeks of rehab following a hospital stay for surgery. I was in a double room but never had a roommate. It was quiet and comforting once I adjusted to the daily routine. Meals were brought to my room by very friendly Caretakers. They also aided me in showering and bathing in the most gentle and caring manner. I was receiving antibiotics by IV administered three times daily. The nurses were very competent and were genuinely interested in my progress. The PT and OT therapy provided was professional and comprehensive. I have to thank the entire staff at Hearthstone's rehab unit for an excellent stay and launching me toward a full recovery.

The Hearthstone is a great place for my mom. She likes the food. It's the best. The staff is amazing. They are loving, caring, kind, compassionate, and wonderful people. They have a whole department of five or six people for activities, so the activities are pretty organized. There is a patio on the second floor, and the facility is right in front of Green Lake, so it has a beautiful view.

The Hearthstone had a good location, and I got a good impression when I walked in. It had a new building, which was very nice, but you need to walk a couple of blocks to go to dinner in the main building. The public areas were nice and great in the main building. It had a large chapel just off the main lobby. The two-bedroom unit we saw was old looking, with radiators and an air conditioner in the window. We weren't impressed with the small living room and small kitchen. There was an exercise room, and some units had a view of the lake. The dining room was very nice and had a fireplace. Some areas were a little bit private than others.

The Hearthstone was fantastic. I would highly rate the place, but the thing about it is that it’s very expensive to get in there. I have not tried the food, but I know it’s very good because it’s rated very highly. We went there at lunch time and everybody seemed to be having a great time. They have a big, wonderful dining room. The place is very classy, like a 5-start hotel. It has everything, except for a pool.

Health Care Center review. My very close friend was put in this nursing facility with oxygen. I was in another state, trying to wrap up my life to come and be a caregiver. We communicated daily by video conference. The staff were truly amazing in the center, and not only kept my friend very comfortable and uplifted, they also soothed and reassured me through contact by video conference. I finally met this treasure of people at the Health Center. Well, I cannot say enough about the care and true compassion shown in this facility. The food is about the only item keeping this from 5 star, the breakfasts always wonderful, the lunch and dinner either spectacular or so very plain. My friend and I are in our 50's, so are no linger there.

The Hearthstone is a pretty amazing continuing care retirement facility with a really positive reputation in Seattle. I have a lot of friends whose parents have been there. It was the most different one of any that I visited because it has this large buy-in amount, and the monthly rent would have been double what we’re currently paying. The rooms were larger and nicely designed with great views of Green Lake and had a lot of light and windows. It’s certainly a fairly fancy place. They have multiple dining rooms, and the main dining is quite large; too large for my dad. They also have smaller dining areas for the different living areas or sections.

The staff was very nice and very attentive. The activities program seemed very vibrant; there were a lot of things going on. In independent living, it seemed that people were really enjoying themselves, and the food was great. The room was really nice. The Hearthstone was an older facility, and the large building, which has nine floors, had a feeling of a dormitory. The independent living apartments were small. In general, everything was fine and clean. It was not as nicely decorated as some other places; the décor was a mixed artwork that the residents probably brought with them. It wasn't professionally decorated as far as the hallways which consisted of a combination of different people's art that were probably from their homes. It looked like a really good value and more reasonable than the one we went to downtown. The food was really good, and there were lots of stimulating activities available for the independent living residents.

The wonderful things about the Hearthstone come easily to mind: 1) Green Lake and its park is our front yard. Almost every morning, I walk along the lake and savor the natural beauty which reveals itself with such abundance in each season. The people I meet, some of whom have become friends, the children, the dogs, the birds, the turtles, the squirrels, and the bunnies combine to create a delight at the start of my days. 2) Area businesses provide a variety of contexts for a vibrant multi-generational, multi-ethnic community to gather and enjoy their services; shuttles and buses take us where we need to go. 3) As a resident of the Hearthstone, I deeply appreciate our caring staff, the clean and well-maintained continuing care facilities that offer me support throughout the range of my needs. My late husband and I looked at other retirement centers in the Seattle-Eastside area, and found the warmth and talents of the residents, the caring, committed staff and the location to meet our needs. I am grateful to be here. BRL

The Hearthstone is the one I have been looking at all my life as an adult. In comparison to the other facility, I think I'd rather be there. It is for profit, and it cost a little more. It has been there for a long time, and I have been looking at that one for most of my life. It is convenient to where I live now. It keeps me inside the city, and I'm not moving outside my comfort zone as far as where I live. The staffs are very nice. It is a first class outfit, and it is a wonderful place.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Because the Hearthstone was within a mile from our house in northeast Seattle, and four of my wife's relatives had lived here, it was a logical place to start looking for our last home. It's across the street from Green Lake and its park--an easy walk for some exercise in natural beauty. A comparison with six other retirement complexes in or near Seattle soon elevated it in our minds. We narrowed our choices to continuing care and non-profit, church-affiliated communities, with bus access, level surroundings for strolling, and within an active business area with stores, restaurants, public library, and a bank. The Hearthstone was near the top-rated in all these categories. Three Metro bus lines pass by the building, or a short walk away, that will take us to many areas of Seattle and beyond. My wife died as we were making plans to move, so when a vacancy at the Hearthstone came within weeks, I continued those plans alone. I have never regretted choosing the Hearthstone, and my ten years living here have only validated our choice.

They have caring staff. They have three good meals per day. The place is clean as a whistle. It has a wonderful setting with great views across the street from a lake with a walking path all around. It has a relaxed and atmosphere. We have a lot of exercise, entertainment and stimulation!

I'll be honest, when they told me where my Grandmother was living, I was not at all expecting what I saw. I think I had it in my head that every "old folks home" was some depressing building with 70's decor and a clinic-vibe. The Hearthstone is not that AT ALL, it is so nice! Seriously, I think her place is nicer than mine. She's got a beautiful room with a balcony which overlooks Green Lake here in Seattle, the view is gorgeous. Each floor has a nice lounge, hang-out area where residents can socialize, I know my Grandmother has already made a few good friends. What really tripped me out is that there is basically a really nice restaurant right in the building. I've brought my kids a couple times and ate dinner with her there, it's great! Most importantly, she's really happy there. Everyone on staff that I met was fantastic, it really makes it easy to know she's there and has whatever she needs, 24-7. Absolutely two thumbs up, I would recommend it highly.

The Hearthstone assisted living center in Seattle was a welcoming environment that provided a continuum of care. The facility is located along Green Lake, which provides a number of recreational and fitness opportunities. The staff at Hearthstone seemed warm, caring, and helpful. The bottom floor provided communal areas for eating, as well as numerous scheduled activities. The cafeteria and common furniture seemed clean and up to date, the piano was in tune, and the plaques provided a community feeling. Sign in at a monitored front desk was polite, but provided security. Progressive care levels increased at higher floor levels. More independent living areas had a social atmosphere and were personalized with decorations. All the staff I encountered in the halls seemed genuine and compassionate. Based on my impressions as a visitor to this facility, it is one of the nicest assisted living centers I've seen.

Continuing Care Communities

Continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) are multi-level care facilities that combine residential accommodations with health services for older adults. The goal of a CCRC is to allow residents to receive the appropriate level of care across a continuum, from independent living to assisted living to skilled nursing care, as their health status changes and without having to move out of the retirement community.
