Pennybyrn is one of our top choices because it's got a religious background. The place was very nice. We saw two available rooms. I remember the two-bedroom because it's brand new, totally modern, and it had a kitchen whereas some of the places we visited didn't have that. The staff members were outstanding. They were very kind. They gave us every piece of information about the place, and they made us feel at home. They were excellent. They had a restaurant. I tried their food, and it was very good.

Pennybyrn is all about looks not care...especially in the Assisted Living and Memory Care Units. IN those units they might have 1 LPN (in a building with over 100 patients) and the rest of the staff is a mix of Practical and just "clean up" staff. Pennybyrn really just seems to want the Independent Living customers that they charge a arm and a leg for. My mother has been there over 8 years and honestly while the grounds and facilities are super...the actual patient care has been constantly understaffed and not very good. The much less expensive home my mother-in-law is much smaller and doesn't look nearly as "swanky" with old buildings BUT they provide twice or better care of the patients and have their priorities correct. We constantly are trying to get Pennybyrn to communicate better, have better staff and improve communication with the responsible family members....to no avail. Now Pennybyrn is almost doubling their independent living but boy will all those people be disappointed when the day comes to move to a higher level of care.

Pennybyrn is a Methodist or Presbyterian home. They were just wonderful there, and they also have skilled nursing. It was well done, well appointed, and the staff was excellent. The rooms were adequate, but not as good as the other places I toured. We saw the menus, we saw the dining room, and it was very nice. The menus were excellent. We saw some activities going on, people playing bingo, and putting puzzles together.

My mother stayed at Pennybyrn for respite care following her surgery. They were great. They have different wings for different therapies, like if you have dementia or if you are recovering from surgery. She wasn't mixed in with people who live there permanently. The staff was excellent. She shared a room. They have an exercise room, outdoor patios, a baby grand piano, and a chapel on-site. They also have a dining room inside the wing. I was very happy with the facility. They give out meal tickets for families to eat there with the residents. They have special activities like Mexican theme nights and a barbecue on the 4th of July. It costs more, but it was well worth it.

The social worker gave me the run around about admitting my mother. She said she needed info from other facility. When I talked to other facility, she promptly called me and said she would have an answer for me on Monday. On Monday I called and I was told she never received the information. Who can play round robin when you are trying to get care for your loved one. I could add a little more "color" to this post but I want to be careful. Make sure you are of the caliber that will be approved before you wait on Pennybyrn!

My Grandfather developed Alzheimer's in his sixties. Our family was trying to care for him at home, but his health was quickly declining and he needed more than we were able to provide. We tried a nursing facility close to our home,, but quickly realized =he was basically "hospitalized" in a cold, sterile room with a window looking out onto a brick wall. The nursing staff were overworked and he was barely a priority. He declined even more. We thought we were witnessing the end of his life. We wanted a better quality of life for however long that might be, and looked into Pennybyrn. From the moment we walked in the door, there was a feeling of peace and contentment immediately. The community is gorgeous and immaculate, and the healthcare building was beautiful and homey. The households and rooms are welcoming, and the team members were absolutely the sweetest and most helpful people we've ever met. They instantly made my Grandfather feel welcome and began creating a bond with him that was heartfelt. We moved him immediately and he actually began to improve! He gained enough strength to walk and wheel himself around, his mental acuity skyrocketed, and his sense of humor returned. You could tell that he genuinely =enjoyed living at Pennybyrn and it was a miraculous sight to behold. We knew then we made the best decision in going to Pennybyrn and letting them create a home for my Grandfather that catered to his wants and needs and excelled his quality of life beyond our expectations. Pennybyrn is not perfect nor do they claim to be. However, if you are searching for a community that will truly love your family member and honor their right to the best quality of life possible, then look no further than Pennybyrn.
