I visited this facility

I went to Abbey Delray and I got a session with one of the salespeople, and they gave me the whole nine yards. They showed me some of the apartments and everything that was available, showed me where the amenities were, what they looked like, who was doing it, the kitchen, all the neat stuff. It was an impressive place. The staff was great. She did a good job. The rooms were spotless. The entire place was spotless. They keep sending me emails and letting me know what's going on, that they got a special thing going on and have lunch with them, so their follow-up is very good. I went down there to find out what was available. They are all set up for senior living, assisted living, and memory care. The lady that gave me the tour spent probably the better part of an hour with me asking questions, and any questions I had that I could get an answer for, etc., and we toured the facility and saw all the amenities and everything else. It was probably about two-and-a-half hours.

I like Abbey Delray. I like their apartment sizes, I like their amenities, and their monthly rent was cheaper. Their community fee was higher, but their rent was cheaper. After the first year's raise, it would still be cheaper, so that's why I chose them. The staff members all seem very friendly. The salespeople are knowledgeable about their products. I like their common areas. I like their auditorium. They have a nice library, pool, and spa there. Their dining room was nice. They also have a lunch area where you could purchase extra sandwiches or hamburgers if you chose that, so that was nice. In the apartment that I picked out, they've gone ahead and replaced all the carpet. They also replaced all the flooring, and they have just redone the kitchen. It had a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, including a half-sized dishwasher. The facilities were nice.

I toured Abbey Delray. I have some friends there, so that is a plus. I didn't think there was anything I disliked about it. It seemed to be very nice. The staff seemed very caring and very warm. They were helpful. The food was OK. Everything was clean and appropriate. I thought everything was easily accessed. They had a courtyard, a dining area, an area they used as a theater, and an outdoor seating area.

Abbey Delray was a beautiful place, but it was too expensive for me. The people there were very, very nice. The rooms were lovely and very nice. Everything looked fresh. The walls were fresh, and the rooms were fresh. If I could afford it, that would be one of the places that I would consider, but I can't afford it. The staff who gave the tour was very knowledgeable. The dining area looked very clean and very well-kept. They gave me a list of their activities and amenities. They have the same type of amenities. And there's a bus for people that can go on the bus. The facility looked like it was brand new. They remodeled it within the year, so everything was very clean, very pristine, and very nice.

Provider Response

Angela - Thank you for your positive comments! Brough my husband here from hospital to Abbey Delray North Rehab and He was in memory care because he had Dementia but needed rehab for a broken femur. Nobody wanted to take the time and patience to work with him due to his cognitive status and only responded to me (his wife) because I've been his care taker through all this. I saw a lot go on in this place that was downright unethical but I can say this place was fairly clean but there are multiple issues that were told to management and nothing was ever done about it. There was a major communication problem. I came in and nobody called to say my husband got a skin tear or how did he get that mark on his skin? Nurses didn't communicate with me nor each other. My husband had developed aspiration Pneumonia yet if we didn't ask for the x-ray or inquire about the results no one communicates. Sometimes his pureed food was so watery he could have choked on it and then one nurse is trying to give medicine with regular water and I had to tell the nurse he was on thickened liquids. Then there was the showering. We had to wait 2 weeks just to get a shower for my husband because i spoke up. The patients are supposed to be showered 2 x a week. Then the staff was speaking in a foreign language all the time in my husbands room and in common areas. I asked them to speak English and they just laughed at me. And lastly, they told me he wasn't sleeping yet it took almost the whole month for them to even call the doctor and then they gave him over the counter Melatonin which clearly wasn't effective and i had to fight to get the doctor called to get him a real sleeping pill. You would have to fight for your love one and actually that did not help. I could say a lot but it won't do any good. All I can say sorry I brought him here and i feel while no nursing home is great, when you don't have a choice; your loved one let alone the family should ever be treated this way. My husband went downhill and lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks. By the final 2 weeks, he went strait to hospice where he received the best of care and went peacefully with family by his side. This can happen at any nursing home but this place place sped up his decline.

I went to Abbey Delray and I was very impressed with the overall tour experience. I thought the community was what would suit my mom's lifestyle very well. I saw newly renovated apartments that were beautiful. Everything was very well kept. I was very impressed with the appearance of the grounds, the facilities, and the hallways. It was very well maintained. The staff was wonderful, very knowledgeable, very warm, and seemed to love working there. The residents that we met along our tour all seemed to know who he was and vice versa. It was very comforting. I saw people playing cards and we walked out to the pool and we saw where shows and lectures were put on. They gave me a pretty comprehensive tour. I saw the dining room. If my mom were to live there, she would want an outdoor patio and her own garden space and that was an option, which was a nice surprise. They had a butterfly garden. It was really pleasant. It was the nicest of all that I saw. It seemed to fit all of our needs.

Overall, Abbey Delray was quite upscale. They had a lot of activities and the buildings looked nice and beautiful. The apartment that I was interested in was located on the other side of the pool, so it was fairly close to everything. It's a nice size and beautiful too. The atmosphere seemed very nice, as well as the help. The only negative experience I had was that they were putting on a hard sell on me. I didn't like that at all, but the person who gave me the tour was a lovely lady. She was very nice, answered all my questions, and was very patient. I would have liked to speak to more people who have lived there though.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband is now in a memory care facility. He's with Abbey Delray in Delray Beach. It is a new expansion. They have a couple of places, and they opened up a new expansion for memory care in January. They knew I was looking for something like that before, so they called me and asked if I wanted to come over and see what the new place looked like. I went over to look at it. It's right in the neighborhood. It's funny because I looked at one of the rooms and I said, "You know what. If my husband was ready to move into a place today, this is where I would book for him." It was a room that had a door that was leading out into a courtyard with a wall you couldn't climb over. It was built so that if you went out there, you could feel that the residents were safe. They had orchids and roses growing there too. They said "We'll hold the room for you. If somebody else wants it, we will call you and see if you want to release it." That's very nice of them. When his doctor said there's no sense trying to keep him in the house, we moved him there. His neurologist said that he is at a stage now where he's been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and he's not going to get better. They have a whole complex of independent living, assisted living, a small memory care unit. The reason they called me in January was that they expanded their memory care unit. Now it was much larger and newer. It was very nice. It is brand new and has very nicely appointed furnishings and closet spaces. My husband didn't have to share a bathroom (which some of the residents have). Everything about the room I picked out was just so perfect for him. It had a door that led out right into a courtyard, where you could sit and look at the flowers. The furniture was beautiful and the dining room is only a couple of doors down from his room. They had a monitoring system in the ceiling too, if they went out. They've been extremely nice. When he moved in, at that point he didn't even know how to use his cell phone anymore. He didn't remember the phone number at home. He went to a nurse that was in his area, and she was very nice. He said, "I can't remember where I used to live. I don't remember my telephone number. I want to get in touch with my wife." She said, "Oh, I've got your telephone number." They had a report they gave to me before he moved in with what activities are happening each day of the month. It was filled with activities and things that he would enjoy doing, like chair yoga and card playing. They had a pool table, where you could go and play cards or pool which is what he liked to do. They did a good job putting things together.

I found Abbey Delray for my mother, but she hasn't moved in yet. The memory care unit is a brand-new building, so no one has ever lived in the room that she will live in. It is a room with a bathroom. I viewed many places, and my criterion was the ratio of caregivers to residents, and I think they have six or seven to one. They check on patients during the night every half hour, and they are bathed two-to-three times a week. The staff answered all of my questions well. After COVID, there are no visiting hours, and you can come in the middle of the night or the middle of the day, whenever you want. They also allow my own certified nurse aide that I pay for to be with her privately. The company has been in business for forty years. The price was comparable to most of the other ones in the same category. The room is brand new, light, and airy. Everybody's window faces an internal garden area, so you are not looking at a parking lot or anything like that. The bathroom is large. Everything is wheelchair accessible if necessary, and there is no lift on the shower. It is a lovely room. Because of COVID, I wasn't able to taste any food; however, you are allowed to bring in food, and they will serve it to my mother. There are a million activities, too. There's painting, and there's bingo. There are activities every day and night. They don't force the patients to do it, but they just encourage everyone. The staff was very kind and very knowledgeable. All the patients were very well kept, and all the people who work there know everyone's names. They seem to hire staff who are very compassionate, kind, and competent.

My mom is living in Abbey Delray. They have an assisted living unit, so she is going to stay there and go into their assisted living facility. Right now, she is in independent living. It's beautiful and it's been totally renovated. It's like a hotel. The food is not that great. I don't think that they are really following dietary rules. A lot of the food is very heavy with a lot of sauces. I don't think it's really appropriate for seniors. The food could use a bit of improving. Before the pandemic, there were lots of activities. They're just very accommodating. The staff is wonderful. I really can't say enough about them. They really have done a lot to keep the residents safe. They have been pretty much under lockdown, and they're really not allowed to go anywhere and have any visitors. They have really done a very good job. They have gotten their meals delivered to their rooms, so they're really taking good care of them. A lot of the women play cards. They have arts and crafts. There's reading groups, exercise, movies, and lectures. There's a big swimming pool, so they have swimming.

Provider Response

The guy who toured me around Abbey Delray was fantastic and compassionate. The apartment he showed me was lovely. He also showed the different activities going on. He was very sympathetic, asked a lot of questions about mom and dad, and answered all of my questions. The cleaning staff seemed nice and caring. It's a lovely environment. A chunk of it was under construction. There was a little bit of a construction zone driving in, but inside it was clean, bright, and great.

I have gone to Abbey Delray. I liked their location, their friendliness, and the size of the apartments. They had all the things you look for in retirement. They were very professional, very courteous, efficient, and experienced. They only serve one meal a day that is your choice of either lunch or dinner. They had transportation, a pool, an exercise room, and a library. They had lectures and bridge, and whatever you want.

Thanks for your review! We certainly strive to have all the things a person or couple would look for in retirement, and you listed many of them. We're glad you enjoyed your visit. Please reach out if you have any other questions, or if we can help in any way. All the best to you!

My parents have been at Abbey Delray for 2 1/2 years. For two years, they were in Independent Living. Last Fall, we had to move them into Assisted Living. Prior to making the initial move to Abbey, I can truly say my heart ached. I felt very guilty about forcing a move that my parents really did not want. I looked at numerous ALF's from Boynton to Boca. Many of them are beautiful, but Abbey Delray (we're in the smaller community on Lowson) just resonated with me for some reason. From the very first day, my parents have loved it. As have I, my husband and my siblings. This is truly a loving and caring environment and honestly, feels very homey. The staff truly cares about the residents and goes above and beyond to make residents feel comfortable while providing the needed care. Front line staff -- nursing, aides, therapists, dining room staff, front desk staff seem to know every resident. They certainly know my parents and their smiles and greetings have done amazing things in easing my parents fears and anxieties. Both of my parents have some form of Dementia. I just cannot say enough about Abbey Delray and I am thankful I have them to help me in this daunting task of caring for my folks.

Provider Response

Thanks, Linda, for sharing a bit about your experience, and for pointing out so many of the things that set Abbey Delray apart. Making the move from Independent Living to Assisted Living can be tough, at times, but it sounds like your parents have adjusted nicely. We wish them, and you, the very best for many years to come!

My visit at Abbey Delray was very nice. The rooms were fabulous. The staff knew their jobs very well. They were very friendly, but they don’t try to be your best friend either. They’re just nice people, and I think the staff is nicely trained. They know how to set the table very nicely without being too fancy. The people who work there have worked in there for quite a while. The food was restaurant good. The price was extremely expensive for me because you have to do a buy-in, and they want at least $200,000; that is why we did not pursue it any further. They need a separate area for people with memory impairment. Some of the places here have memory loss areas where all the people have the same issues, and they do their exercises together. I didn’t stay long enough to really have anything to say, but the staff was very friendly, and the snacks that they offered us while we had breaks were very good. They took 5 of us. Some were going to take a walk, and he would have 2 or 3 people who worked there -- not necessarily doctors or nurses, but even it could be some of the nice people whom we see in the dining room or that kind of thing. Everybody was friendly there.

One of my best friends is in Abbey Delray. It is very pretty and very nicely done, quiet, and everyone seems happy there. They serve a breakfast buffet that you have to come down to, then, they give you either lunch or dinner as part of their service. They give you coupons for the month, and I guess you have to give them one of the coupons in order to have whatever you want to eat. If you don’t use them all, I think you can use them for when somebody comes in for dinner or lunch, and you can use that instead of paying for them, which is a nice idea. My girlfriend’s apartment is beautiful. She took a two-bedroom, two-bath, and they will change it for you to your liking. They changed one of the bedrooms, the living room, and dining area into one room for her, so she has a lot of comfortable space. She loves it and is very happy there. You are allowed to have animals, and it is very nice because she has a dog. It is a lovely place.

We are scheduled to move into Abbey Delray. It is a Lifecare facility, and we're going in as independent. They have assisted, skilled nursing, and Alzheimer's facilities. What impressed us the most with Abbey Delray? The price was right. The rooms were the right size. The area looked nice, and we are familiar with it because we live close by. Starting in November, they are going to add restaurants and they are going to change some of the grounds or add buildings. The staff seemed wonderful. Everybody I talked to there was very easy to talk to. The people there, they weren't snooty or anything, and they all praised the people that work there. They all were very, very happy with them.

I think Abbey Delray is the nicest one by far. The facility is well kept, and it’s very clean. My mom’s room is big and nice. The dining area is very nice, too. My understanding is you serve yourself, but its all healthy food. The staff are very nice and give excellent help. Their activities are excellent as well.

I had an appointment at Abbey Delray South and I went there for a visit. I liked the atmosphere because it was welcoming and it did not feel restrictive. It was open and quiet. I thought it was more elegant that's why it also cost more. The apartments were smaller but the appeal visually was better. The grounds and location were appealing. I have not tasted the food but everybody seemed to eat it up and happy. There were also activities and I was more comfortable there. I'd consider living there if they would accept me. For me, the care that the person received depends on the involvement of the family and knowledge of what's going on.

I like Abbey Delray the best. There are darling little villas right along the waterways. I could have a kayak and I could go kayaking right there behind my property. Then across from the water ways are regular condominiums. They can give a tree if the view from the stream bothers you. I can put an electric wire around the backyard so I can have my dog ran out of the door or not worry that an alligator will eat my dog. They are throwing in a free golf cart so you could go back and forth to the main building. But I’m not sure if they are still offering that until now. The chef came out of the kitchen to greet and meet us. The place is well decorated, like the crown moldings. The cabinets and refrigerators have fancy stones too. They also have a cleaning service.

The director at Abbey Delray, who gave us a tour and showed us around, was just awesome. My aunt initially was very resistant at looking at places, but this person broke through the barriers that my aunt had. For me, the highlight of that visit was this director. She knew the residents by name. She just made the whole place come alive. Also they have a lot of organized activities there. I thought the place itself was very clean; however it was a little crowded and I felt like there could have been more vegetation and little more open areas and sceneries.

The food at northern Abbey Delray was absolutely, unbelievably good. They had the most adorable little villas that anybody could ever hope to live in. The chef came out to greet us. Kevin, the man who takes you around was out of this world. He was explaining everything. He was unbelievably good and the best one of all the places I've ever been to, really terrific. I'd give him a pat on the back, he's really good.

Abbey Delray is a beautiful facility. The accommodations that they offer are very nice as well. I would recommend this place to others. It is just too big for my parents. They don't need as much as it has to offer because my stepmother is not able to do as much now. It is just more than they would need and to spend that much money would be impractical for us. They would probably wouldn't get the benefit of it anyway.
