We got a nice tour of Chevy Chase. They have independent and assisted living. The there are 99% assisted. My mother is completely mobile and most of the people there are not mobile. It was older, a very old building, but somewhat renovated. They have a lot of apartments. It's quite expensive, but it didn't have as many amenities.
The new wing had central air-conditioning, but the big main old building has window air-conditioners. It doesn't have parking. I think they might valet park your car for you, but I think most people there don't have a car from what I saw. They were not really independent living. Most of them were not too mobile on their own, they had wheelchairs or walkers.

This facility, which offers both independent living and assisted living, is located in a pretty stone building in the prime area of Chevy Chase. There are lots of coffee shops and diverse restaurants nearby for both residents and visitors.
Because there is lots nearby to walk to, it is easy for residents to maintain their independence if they have it. The place appeals the most to those who want to stay in the area and who have friends and family nearby—or those who enter as a couple. The residents seem to engage with one another easily and to be very social.
It’s an older, established residence community, appointed with somewhat dated furniture from the 70s and 80s. The residents have their own living quarters, which are quite spacious.
A possible benefit is they have Care Share that allows residents to split the costs of care they need—and that often allows residents to stay out of nursing facilities and to stay as independent as possible for as long as possible.
There are also nurses on staff who are adequate, but don’t seem to go the extra mile. There’s also a dining area that offers basic food—and it is possible for residents to have it delivered to their rooms if they wish.
Care and housing at Chevy Chase House is very expensive, but you don’t get much for the money. You pay for the ZIP code.
