I visited this facility

I am looking for a place for my mother-in-law. As soon as I walked into this facility, it smelled of urine. I did see small roaches in one of the hallways. The building is very old and does not look anywhere near other facilities I have visited. Most of the rooms have two people, and one bathroom for four people. I witnessed a staff member yelling at a resident. I would highly discourage having a family member living in this facility.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Management is aweful. My mother passed away at carriage house, her rent was paid through the end of the month. They had someone else on her room in 2 days. I have requested a refund and have not received it. Also some of the residents have had no heat since Christmas. It's 37 degrees! The food is nasty and the residents are not being heard. They can't even have drinks when they are thirsty unless they buy them, the director let 3 months go by before filing correct paperwork to medicaid, my mother paid out of pocket $1850 a month, because of this. DHEChas been called twice in 6 months. 2 people to a small room, 4 people to a bathroom!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was a resident for over 3 years at Carriage House of Taylors - she left earlier this year. She left in the middle of the month (with notice) and they are refusing to reimburse her the balance of her rent - around $700. Along with this issue there are plenty of others. Let me preface this by saying most of the issues are with management, and that the employees try to take care of the residents as best as they can. 1) They incorrectly invoiced her and are now saying she owes THE DIFFERENCE (she does not, as she paid every invoice in full and is not responsible for their accounting errors). 2) Until we decided to take care of filling her medications ourselves at CVS, my mother would frequently come up short and be missing medications by the end of the month. The short pills were usually Tramadol and Lyricia - both controlled medications. We have to assume that records were adjusted to pass inspection. 3) They allow employees to stay and sleep in empty rooms overnight when not on shift. 4) There was numerous cases of theft. Some were investigated, some were not. My mother's recently purchased wheelchair was stolen. All residents and some staff were sick with covid and quarantined at the time her chair came up missing. Only a few staff were allowed to move in and out of the building. When my mother recovered and was allowed to leave her room, she noticed her chair was missing. Management and some staff searched the building for the chair, but there was never an investigation or authorities notified of the theft. 5) Chronically understaffed - some weekends there is only one employee for the overnight shift. 6) The food is a joke - most of the meals are all carbs - no fresh fruit or vegetables. And they are often out of basic things like coffee, sugar, etc. 7) In the 3 years she was a resident - they had 5 administrators. 8) I have tried to resolve the reimbursement issue with them and they are now refusing to reply to my emails, so I am taking them to Small Claims Court to try and get my mother’s money back.

My mother was in assisted living at the Carriage House of Taylors. If someone can take care of themselves most of the time, then this is a good place to go. Other than that, they don't have a good level of care for the mentally disabled. I liked the place, and it was clean; you didn't walk in and smell anything foul. If they go outside, they can just walk away because there's no lock.

I visited this facility

We went to Carriage House. It had a bad odor. The staff was good, but it wouldn’t be a place for my aunt. They didn’t have apartments. You would share a room with somebody, and that’s the way they work.

I visited this facility

It's a real nice facility and really the place that I thought I wanted my mom to go, but the lady there did not work with the social worker. She never returned calls, or faxes, or anything. She had openings, and my mom missed out on those openings because of the lack of communication. It's a clean place although it looked like kind of an institution, because it was a building. Otherwise it looked all right. The staff was very knowledgeable. They have a licensed RN there and it made me feel really good. They have really great programs that they offer throughout the day. It's like every 2 hours, there was a different program going on, about 7 days a week. So they're keeping their residents active there. The residents were very nice, they were friendly, and very talkative. One even commented on my husband's Dallas Cowboy shirt. There was this married couple that I saw and they seemed very happy. Also, they would let people bring their own furniture and I thought that was fantastic! I knew my mom would actually like that, too. The only thing though, the contact the lady there, I forgot the name, she should at least try to call the people back or fax or email them back and not just ignore people. The staff should be more responsive to inquiries.
