I visited this facility

I will be moving into MorningStar Senior Living of Sparks. It's closer to family. It is an up-and-coming area, so it has a lot of services fairly close to the facility. I think it's probably less than ten years old, but it's very well-kept. When you walk in, you have that kind of comfortable feeling. They have a very bright, cheery, and proactive staff, so I'm looking forward to it. They showed me three particular room models, and they have the third one available. I will have a one-bedroom apartment. It was like 700 square feet, but it has big closets, a big living room, a fair-sized bedroom, and more than enough room for me and my two dogs. It's on the third floor, so I have a great view of the mountains. It's going to be a very nice change. They have an outside gardening area, a computer lab, a library, a physical training area, a theater, and open areas where they have different activities.

I visited this facility

I toured MorningStar Senior Living of Sparks. I checked out the independent living, but they had basic services, too. They had a very large menu and they had access to it all through the day. The facility was very nice and clean. The room for the independent (a one-bedroom), was very spacious and had a washer-dryer hookup. The dining area was very nice and large. I liked it, too. They have several activities, too. They have arts and crafts, exercise, outings, and they have transportation to doctors. They offer chef-prepared meals, and they have a very good, diverse menu to pick from. However, the drive is a little far in and out of town for me.

Provider Response

Try as we might on the website and elsewhere to present the MorningStar brand, there’s nothing like coming inside to experience our beauty, inside and outside, for yourself. Thank you for taking the time. Please reach out with any further questions or needs.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

MorningStar Senior Living of Sparks was excellent. I knew a gentleman from our church who lived there and he was very pleased with it. I mainly visited the assisted living and they had a lot of things available. They had a library with a reading room (which would be something that my husband and I would be very interested in). It was quite lovely and very nice. The staff was very accommodating. They answered all my questions. The apartments were also good. They were very bright and had big windows. Most of the assisted living was on the second floor and there were probably at least two elevators that went up and down to the second floor, but there was also a big staircase coming down. I was very concerned about that because my husband might get on that staircase and fall. They had no safeguard in them.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I am a resident of MorningStar Senior Living of Sparks. It's been very good. I moved here in March because my oldest son lives in Reno. And he found the place for me. The apartments are very big, they're roomy and they have a balcony. I do cook my own food because I am gluten-free, and I have Crohn's disease. But I see if I need something like tonight, I'm having a hamburger, so I went downstairs, and they gave me some pickles and French fries to go with it. Right now, there's a shortage of staff because of the virus, but they try and get here to clean the apartment every week. It's just a shortage of staff, that's it. They have bingo. They're having a Valentine's party tonight. They have Trivia, which I like, and art classes. They take you to the mall every so often. The library has very good books here. They have a movie theater, and they do that twice a week. For Christians, they have a Christian thing on Sunday and then a mass on Sunday on YouTube. Once a month, the priest comes in and says Mass for the Catholics. I don't eat their food because I have Crohn's disease. I cook my own food and I go down there and eat at a table with my friends, it works out fine. The dining area is quite large; there are four people at each table. On the counter, you can order your coffee; if you don't want it until later, you can pour yourself a cup of coffee and take it up to your room. There's sugar and all kinds of teas, and they have Sprite for drinks. It's okay. The activities are good. We have an exercise class too, and there's an exercise room. We could ride a bike or do whatever we want. I used to live in Sacramento, but here it's much cheaper and more reasonable.

I went to MorningStar Senior Living of Sparks. It was really nice and super fancy. They have a movie theater, a gym like onsite therapy, and a dining hall, which is kind of split into assisted living and independent living. It didn't have an option to come furnished, and it was incredibly expensive. The cheapest option for the level of care anticipated for my father was over $8000 a month. The staff who showed me around, his name is Charlie, he is incredibly knowledgeable. Everybody seemed to like him. Everywhere we went all the residents were like, 'Hey, Charlie' waving to him, so that's a good sign. He was super nice. What was interesting was that the pricing sheet that he gave me was handwritten, so it was odd to me that they didn't have like a printed off like a more legitimate pricing sheet that they could pass out, and instead, I just have this like handwritten thing. He gave me their menu and they offered me coffee, but I didn't eat the food.

I can give a 100% rating for MorningStar Senior Living of Sparks because I put my ex-mother-in-law there. I moved her there in their assisted living in July of 2020. It's always clean and anything you need, they fix as soon as they can. I know my mother-in-law had a broken cabinet in her apartment and they were there within 3 hours to fix it. The upkeep is very nice and they just remodeled it, I think, 5 months ago. It's very nice and the staff was accommodating. The people up front, where you sign in, are very helpful. I did a tour just by myself, and then my mom wanted to go so I called them and they said yes. We went down there on that same day. Of course, my uncles wanted to do a tour too, so I called them and they said yes. Each time, they took us and gave us a full tour, let us into the apartment where we're going to be, and every time I've called, they've facilitated everything I've needed. They've helped with the doctor stuff. The rooms are a little different. They're individual apartments. I think my mom is going to be in the smallest apartment. It's like 484 square feet. It has a little kitchenette, a little living room, a bedroom, and a very large bathroom. The dining area is nice and large. The building is 3 or 4 stories because it's assisted and then something else. Their dining rooms are nice, they're big, and they have staff that comes up and takes your orders and then brings them to you. They have a game room, an art room, a community room so if you want to have a birthday party or something, you could do it in their community room. They have a cinema, a coffee bar and I know there is more. They have elevators for people who can't go up the stairs. This is a nice community.

I chose Morning Star Senior Living of Sparks for my husband because of availability. He'll be moving there for respite. It's a nice facility and everyone seemed to be very caring. The staff is very efficient and very helpful. It's all very clean and they provide everything we will need. They have all of the amenities including plenty of walking space. It's located pretty far out of town, it's not very close to a hospital, but it's pretty easy for me to drive to. They have a huge dining room, they have a little bistro.

My tour of MorningStar Senior Living of Sparks was very good. It was very clean and updated, and there were lots of amenities. The facility and the grounds were beautiful. The apartments were very nice. There was a wide variety of sizes and price ranges. The staff was very nice and answered all of our questions. The only thing she didn't do was to not call us back right away to follow up, where the other places had called me back within two days. We liked the place very well.

MorningStar Senior Living of Sparks was a very nice facility. It's a combination of independent and assisted. It has a nice presentation. They have one- and two-bedrooms. It's much more expensive than the one down in San Diego, but it's a brand new complex. They have recreation rooms, dining rooms, meeting rooms, movie rooms, and exercise rooms. It's all very nicely done. The tour was excellent. The staff during the tour was pleasant, outgoing, and attentive. We checked out the menu and the dining room, but we did not eat there.

MorningStar Senior Living of Sparks is at the top of my list. The size of the room is the only one where I thought I could actually bring with me the things that are important to me, and most of the rooms have an outdoor space balcony or a patio. It was not my favorite location overall; but when you consider that you're going to spend 24/7 in a place, you want it to not feel claustrophobic. The staff was fine. She answered my questions. Unfortunately, we had to wear masks because they have assisted living on site as well. We went around with masks; it was the only tour that I took out of five that I had to wear a mask. It's very hard to judge people when they're all covered up. The atmosphere was cheerful. The people were engaged and interacting. It was a very comfortable, relaxed, warm, and friendly atmosphere. The dining room was open all day. They do not close until after dinner. I like that a lot, and they also provide a two-meal a day plan rather than three. You can get three if you want to pay a little extra. Having a full kitchen in the room, most people don't bother with breakfast; they stay in their apartment. I was delighted to hear that I didn't have to pay for three meals a day. I guess I have to say all the usual ones, they have some kind of exercise room. They have a nice library. The layout is attractive. There are rooms where you can sit down and play cards, board games, or what have you. It was one of the most busy places that I looked up. They're established and have been there for about 10 years. They are pretty much full, and everybody is busy doing things. The whole atmosphere was attractive, and the schedules were all very workable.

We went to MorningStar Senior Living of Sparks last month. They were very nice and very helpful. They had several apartments that were vacant and ready to be moved into. They were a little smaller than the one that we have ended up with in the other place. They were clean, and they had nice floor plans and stuff like that. They had a courtyard, and they had places where you could barbecue outside and that sort of stuff. I think we saw the movie room.

I liked most of what I saw at MorningStar. The people were very friendly and very nice. They showed me all around. It just seemed like it was friendly. What impressed me was we went up in the elevator at some place, they had a little room there where they had coffee and donuts, and different things up there, and the people could come up there whenever they wanted to, and they could sample the food, and I thought that was neat. They were thorough. You have to have your temperature done and you have to go through quite a bit because of the virus. The other places didn't seem to be as strict as they were. I really liked that place. It just seemed like it was nice and clean. It didn't have a swimming pool, but everything else was pretty good. The staff member who assisted us was very good. She was very friendly and very nice.

I like MorningStar, but it wasn't suitable for my father with just the way it was set up. The facility was beautiful, gorgeous, very clean, very calm, and very nice, and the setting where it was located was nice as well. It was just almost too much apartment living. I think it had a lot to do with it being a much bigger facility. If my father were stronger and more mobile, then I would say yes, but it didn't seem like a right fit. They were able to show one apartment from the outside. They also followed up, which is nice, and I really appreciated that. I explained to them if things were different, most likely we would have chosen them because they were reasonably priced. I didn't meet any other staff except the front desk and the person that gave us the tour. They were really nice, they answered all my questions, they took the time, and they were really accommodating. The place was very clean and very organized, too.

So far our experience with MorningStar Senior Living of Sparks is fine. The staff is helpful. My dad is on a special diet so I don't have a lot to say about the food; he's on blended food right now. Because of the COVID we can't really go in, but from what I've seen the facilities are nice.

My mother moved into MorningStar of Sparks, and so far she really enjoys it there. She's meeting a lot of people. She's in independent, and their staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a salon, but my mom has not used that. The apartments have washer and dryer hookup. They do laundry for a fee, housekeeping weekly, change their bedding, and serve three meals. They have a continental breakfast and serve lunch and dinner. She enjoys the food, but the menu is pretty much the same week to week. They have a theater room and a small gym.

MorningStar of Sparks was a big, very friendly, and very new place. The staff was very nice. The managers take care of things and were very helpful. I highly recommend it. They take people to shopping and to different places. The rooms were very nice. They had a separate wing for memory care. The dining area was nice, like a restaurant. They had a seminar about insurances and Veterans' assistance, a band was playing some nice oldies music, and the residents were singing along and were very happy. They had a movie theater, yoga classes, and other physical activities.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I've been in MorningStar of Sparks for several years. I think it does very well. The buildings are well-maintained, and the apartments are a nice size with big bathrooms and lots of closets. They also have covered parking and quite a few activities, like bingo, and they take us places every other week like to the parks, casinos, to shows. You have to sign up and go. They have a medic three days a week where they take you anywhere you need to go, and if you need to go more than five miles, they charge you for that. The staff overall is great, but they have a lot of turnover and if they have the same people all the time that would have been better. I understand it's pretty standard here, but it would be nice to know the same people and so forth. The dining room is a big open area. The building is four stories high, and they have the main library on the second floor, which is a good size and well-taken care of. They also have a smaller library on the first floor by the coffee shop, and another one in the third and fourth floor and in the assisted living. They've got lots of books around for people to read.

Donna, Thank you for your kind words about our community. We love it here, too! I know that new faces (and several at that,) can elicit some feelings of uncertainty. I was a resident of MorningStar Senior Living of Sparks. I would say that it's an outstanding community, the staff is very caring, and everybody seems to get along so well. There were people who have lived there for many years. It's top of the line. They have all kinds of things like mahjong, except for a swimming pool, although it didn't bother any of us. We had a couple of art teachers and speech classes, there's a wonderful gym that you can work out in, and take fitness classes. The food was very good, they took our suggestions, and we had a meeting about it every month. The facilities are lovely, although some of the decorations are not my style. However, I could always make my apartment my own. I really can't find anything wrong with them; they're lovely all the way around.

MorningStar looked nice, but dated in styling. The facilities were older and there were less amenities. Their apartments were some of the largest ones with nice large walk-in closets and such. The person who assisted me was very personable and seemed to know a lot about the community. However, he didn't seem very passionate about our unique needs. It has a much older population with fewer and less physical activities. They have a very small gym with minimal equipment. The food looked good, but there were not a lot of fresh vegetables or fresh fruits.

My mom wants to go to MorningStar of Sparks. She likes Asad, the representative, because he has a personality that really clicked with her. I like the rooms and the feel. Everyone was super friendly and more casual. The place wasn't as nice in appearance outside, but the food was fine. There's a place for a washer and dryer, but we have to buy our own. When we were there, they were having an awesome margarita day. They treated us very well.

MorningStar was beautiful. They have assisted living and memory care unit right there, and lots of activities if the person wanted to do them. The community seems extremely clean, but when we get down to cost, it is pretty exuberant for most seniors to be in a place that is so very nice. The room is small but spacious. We looked at a one-bedroom apartment with a bathroom that was very open and free of clutter, so there wouldn't be any falls, plus they have all the rails and the safety features already installed. Each of the apartments also had a refrigerator and microwave in it, so that a person who doesn't want to go to the dining room would have those two features.

Some staff at MorningStar are great and some are not. For the most part, they are helpful and accommodating. There is one bad apple that they keep, and I don’t know why. They do all kinds of activities, like bingo, music, outings, social hour, concerts, and church. The dining area is big and spacious and has a granite top table. It’s nice. The community is very clean. But the marketing and the billing managers are not on the same page and don't communicate. When it comes to overall communication in the place, it’s a zero. It is very important because when they called us for the assessment, we gave them every single detail about my grandma, and when my grandmother got there, the coordinator didn’t know anything about my grandma’s highs and lows and what to look for or anything.

My father is a senior and has friends at MorningStar, so we go out there regularly to visit with him. I think they're very organized, have a great staff, have very food, and have lots and lots of activities for every level of senior. They're big on baseball and have little tournaments with the other places around town. They also have lots of card games, bingo, music come in occasionally, which is very nice, and cooking demonstrations, so they have a lot going on. They have their buses to take seniors on shopping trips and outside activities and scheduled trips to their medical appointments, so it’s very convenient for them. The rooms are very nice and clean. They have several levels for seniors: independent living, assisted living with a minimal amount of care, and advanced care. We have one friend that needs a lot of assistance, so it's very good for them. He's wheelchair-bound, and they have the staff to help him in and out, with bathing, and all that kind of stuff. I think it's a very clean and friendly place. They have a good staff that is readily available.

My father has been living in MorningStar for a couple of years, but he has just recently moved in to the managed care -- same building, just a different floor. The people are nice, but it turns out they no longer have a nurse. I was really disappointed. They have what you call med techs. If my dad has a problem and if they needed a decision whether to go to the hospital, they can't make that decision. They call me, and I'm not a doctor. They don't take their blood pressure, and they are not trained in CPR. My father and my mother had a private two-bedroom until they went from the third floor down to first floor. She went with him because it would be more expensive for her to stay in the active senior part of it and have him in a separate place. They are in the assisted living apartment, but she is not getting any services. There is bingo, bean bag baseball, and ice cream socials, but not enough physical stuff. The grounds are very pretty, and it is a very nice building. The food is sometimes good, sometimes bad; they are not consistent.

I very much like MorningStar of Sparks. My sister and I went there three times before choosing it for our parents. Now we are in the process of obtaining a unit. We had lunch and dinner and talked with the residents, and it felt very comfortable. Money wise is was very economical. The amenities were wonderful. The food was very good. The grounds are lovely, and it was just very clean. They have a lot of activities. We watched some of the residents taking part in some of their different activities and just felt like our parents would fit in here well. Everyone was so friendly and very confident and very accommodating. We were just very pleased with that.
