I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister-in-law is in the memory care unit of Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road. They treat her very gently and they calm her down. The rooms are nice. They're spacious and their bathrooms are also nice and clean. They're always cleaning. They have puzzles and they work with plants outside. They do quite a bit of stuff. They're all very friendly and very nice.

The staff at Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road is great. The common space is nice. Dad's room is a little small, being that he needs to use a wheelchair. That's the smallest room, of course, but there are options for larger rooms that he's going to move into once one becomes available. They were about to play bingo. I had not witnessed that. I just had a little bit of trouble getting in touch with some assistance with his bill and stuff. I haven't tried their food, but my sisters have and they liked it, and my dad raves about it and he's extremely picky, so he thinks it's really good. The value for the money is really good, too.

Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road was an older facility. It had not been updated at all, which we did not like. We liked the staff that was there. They were extremely nice. We saw some of the activities the residents were doing. We also noticed some of the employees (that work directly with the memory care patients) go out of their way to keep the patients engaged. What turned us off about it was simply the fact that the building was so old. You could tell it needed repairs. The atmosphere was very nice. The residents seemed engaged. They looked like they were taken care of. Some of them were watching television. They had one group, where the person in charge of the activity was explaining to them a different meal. He prepared the meal for them and showed them, even though they were not going to be doing it. He made different snacks for them, and he explained everything that he was doing. It kept them engrossed and thinking about what was going on. It kept their mind occupied. The interaction between the residents and the staff was excellent.

We did a tour of Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road. The staff all seem to be pretty nice people. They all went about their business. They were busy and seem to care about what they were doing. Most of them were long-term, and you do not stay in a place long-term if you're unhappy. The rooms were all large, including the patients' rooms. I like them because they were normal rooms, and they have both dual and single. Some people need single, and some can do with dual. I like that they were large enough and they have storage for both people. But the one thing I don't like was the personal care and prescription storage. They have a good system, but there's not enough room in those little boxes for everything that's needed. We didn't go into the dining area, and we did not eat the food, but it looks like it was large and cheerful. The people were eating their food, and it seems to be good. I didn't see much of the grounds except when we went in. What we saw when we went in the front door was, they were manicured and well-managed. We were there late morning, around time to eat. We didn't see activities, but we were told about different things, we were shown different areas and it was explained to us what was done there. It was like an activity area where they do different activities with different groups of people. They had an outdoor area for memory care residents that look very comfortable and inviting. They have their own chef, and they offer food choices.

Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road is the one we're tentatively looking at. I like the size and I like the individual attention to timeliness. I especially like that they have one contact person for the caregiving information. Everything looks great. I like the size of the dining area. It wasn't overwhelming, and they had multiple areas for multiple events. They have one person that designs the activities for memory care and is the go-to person for memory care. So it wasn't like I had to go through three or four people, it was just that one person who pretty much makes the decisions, and I like that. The outdoor spaces were very nice and very well-kept. It seemed like a nice place to sit and enjoy the sunshine. I like the fact that the facility is smaller and the fact that the director is the one who gave me the tour. They introduced me to the staff. They introduced me to the person above the director. Then they all sat down with me and talked to me about the expectations. It was much more informative because each person talked to me and not one person.

I visited this facility

I toured Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road. It seemed very nice. It was very clean and very well appointed. The people that work there looked like they were enjoying their job. It was very quiet, though. I wish there had been music or something going on. The rooms were nice. The amenities seemed to be appropriate and plentiful. They had physical therapy onsite. I looked at what they call a studio room and I looked at a one-bedroom apartment. The studio was a little on the small side. The one-bedroom apartment was OK for a single person with not much to do. It seemed appropriate for my friend who has a wheelchair, so she would have a space to move around. All the rooms were light and bright. I didn't really see many people taking advantage of what amenities were available. There was nobody doing anything in the activity rooms, so it seemed weird to me that there weren't people moving around and doing stuff. Amanda, who took me on my tour, was very, very helpful and friendly. All the staff seemed very friendly, open, and caring, and I enjoyed speaking with all of them. I had lunch there with Amanda. We sat and chatted for quite some time going over details. The food was fine. I think we had meatloaf that day, and it was really good. The dining area was very bright and it had nice spacing around the tables so that people with wheelchairs would have no problem finding places to sit. It just seemed like a very nice place. They have transportation to doctor's appointments and grocery stores. I was very pleased at all of the extra stuff that was available to whoever would be living there. It's not just a place to live in. It's all of the stuff that makes life livable, the atmosphere, the friendships, and the camaraderie.

I did a tour of Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road, and I love that place. It's just so far away. I met some of the staff and everything, and I just loved that place. The staff were just so nice, and for every question I asked, they knew the answer. I like that they asked what I was looking for, for my sister, as far as care and stuff. I said, "I don't expect her to be treated like the Queen of England, but I demand respect and dignity." Other than that, there isn't anything, because that's the most important, being treated with respect and dignity when you're in this type of shape. Once somebody treats you like that, you're going to be fine. The facility was nice. I liked them because I'm looking for a semi-private. After all, private is too expensive. I like the rooms. I understand you have to buy your own furniture. Well, that's not a problem. It's just a twin bed, a little dresser, some chairs for when we visit, sheets, bedding, and stuff, and that's not a big deal. I liked the common dining area. It has a homey atmosphere, and that's what I'm looking for. I also liked the grounds, they're very nice. It's not a gated community, but where she would be, they have to keep the doors locked and everything. You have to keep them from the other residents. They offer a lot of activities, but my sister doesn't participate. She doesn't want to most of the time, she's kind of feisty. They have little crafts and stuff, and a room where they could draw and do those like little beads and stuff. They can do stuff like that if they want. She used to do all that.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I have a friend that lives on Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road that I visit often. The staff there is very professional. They are very good to the residents. I just find the place to be a bit outdated for the price that they charge. It's very old fashioned, but it's very clean, and the activities manager, Miss Martha, is very good with the residents. The rooms are nice and well-kept. My friend shares it with someone, and the bathrooms are big. They do a lot of painting, drawing, and dancing. They have a shuttle that takes them to Walmart, but they don't have a swimming pool or any real exercise. They have a restaurant with a good chef, a courtyard, and a beauty salon. That's really all they have. I think the outdoor courtyard could be better, because there's no real pretty flowers out there. It's just like a smoking area.

Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road is excellent. My husband is staying in the memory care and the people that work there are very friendly to the residents. The place is very clean and very nice. Their rooms are spacious. There's a lot of room and they're always neat and clean. Their beds are made right away when they're not in them. I think they do a great job.

We went to Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road. The overall experience was good. The place was nice. The people were friendly. It would be a good fit. The staff was very nice, and they answered all the questions. It was nice and well-kept. The rooms were a good size. We looked at two apartments in the assisted living part. Price-wise, what we would have to go with was the smaller square footage one. They have a big courtyard in the middle. The building was in a complete square, and the memory care was to the back. There's a big open court with a covered patio. They had a walking trail inside so the residents could stay within the confines and just walk on the pathway around, so it made a good walking thing and then they had benches and stuff at that one. I saw the room and walked around the whole place and stuff like that. The staff was very good and very nice.

I went to see Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road's assisted living. The tour was outstanding and just a great experience. To me, you would hope that every community will have a level of cleanliness and quality, but the staff there are just as equally impressive. They're very welcoming, answered questions, and gave me details. It was a great location. It was more modern than I had expected and very, very welcoming. It had good quality and beautiful rooms for the television and the social areas. They had multiple social areas so clients could have television and activities going and just different levels of engagement. The personal attention the staff provided me and the obvious relationship they had with their residents impressed me. The place was squeaky clean and very, very nicely appointed. It's an older facility, but a very, very well-kept one.

Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road was beautiful. It was really nice. I was impressed with everyone that I spoke to there. I sat down and discussed the problems and the things that we're dealing with. We kind of came to the agreement that my husband needed more than assisted living, independent living, or anything like that. It's just not quite enough. I didn't get to see any rooms because we decided we wouldn't look at the rooms after talking for a while. I have a feeling they're really nice though because the place itself seemed very nice. I didn't see a lot of patients anywhere or the people who lived there. I did see some in the hallway, but not gathered anywhere. They explained to me what they offer for assisted living residents. I think it's a little limited and my husband needs more care or supervision. The facility is very clean and nice. The staff was very nice too. They sat down and went over the things that I would be need and be looking at. Everybody was friendly and helpful.

We went to Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road. They were good. I liked the representative who talked to us. She was very informative. I liked that you could move from one level to another level, they have more levels. I like the way they had things set up and everything for the residents. I was impressed with that one. We talked to the resident and she was really happy there. She showed us her room where she had it set up, and she was with a couple of residents, there were three residents together, and they were all happy. If they could do updates it would be good.

I toured Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road. It needs some updating. The apartments were a little old looking. They don't look as modern at all compared to a lot of other places. The staff was very nice. They were fine. They really tried to help. In the interior, when you first walk in, it seemed OK and pretty, but the apartments needed to be updated. The apartment was small but it was still OK. It was a little dark to me.

Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road did a good job putting on their presentation. The only person that I saw there would've been the sales representative. I got to have a peek inside, but it was very nice outside. It met my expectations. Parking had numbers, spaces, and were proper in width. All we did was do the initial presentation and then my mom's condition deteriorated to where she was not able to utilize assisted living. It was very nice and modern.

We liked Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road the most out of the three places we visited. We liked the layout, the rooms, and the staff. We saw a room that had a bathroom and we really liked it. We wanted a kitchenette, but they didn't have any. The staff was friendly and was interacting with the residents. They have a hair salon, a game room, bingo, a little library, and a TV room.

When I initially got to Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road, I waited a few moments before anyone acknowledged me to ask for assistance. However, the actual visit was pleasant. The staff showed me the place. She did do a follow-up to see if there were any other questions that I had. The room was relatively small; it was more like a studio. I didn't see an exercise room, but I did see a room where they congregate for different games. They also have a calendar with different activities throughout the month, which include having a minister come and speak with the occupants.

Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road was really nice especially the private rooms. I really like it because they’re roomy. My son is on a wheelchair, and he had plenty of room to go in and out in that room. He stayed there as respite care patient for a few days. I like the idea that it had the bedroom area, and then it had a little sofa close by, like a little living room area. It was small, but it’s connected to the bedroom. It was nice. I like it. It was roomy and very clean. I like the way they had the bathroom too because, like I said, he is in wheelchair, and he could very easily go in and out of that bathroom as long as there are grab bars. They had all that for him. Brookdale was closer to my house. I really like it. my son’s respite care service was fine. He liked the food. The dining room was very nice. It was nice, roomy, and very clean, and it was pretty. It was a nice-looking dining room area. They were very friendly. They’re very nice people. They were there to help me during the time that I needed them to help me with his care. They’re on top of things. They handled everything very well while I was away.

I was not impressed with the size of the units at Brookdale; you could just fit a bed and a dresser. The food was horrible, and one of the ladies that lived there told me not to live there. They didn’t really have a lot of amenities, just a small library, a very small sitting room for five people with a TV, and a nice courtyard with a barbeque grill on a patio. They had a formal living room where you could entertain your guests. If you’re in assisted living, they take and manage your medications, but sometimes you have to wait for hours before you get your medications.

Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road (formerly Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates) was in the process of being updated. They were painting the interior and trying to bring it up to date, although I didn't think it was in bad shape. It was encouraging to know that the company cares enough to have the place refreshed. I liked this one very much. If I needed something a more than independent living, I would certainly consider this one because it was all on the ground level. My husband is in Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road (formerly Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates), and he has early-stage dementia. At first, they gave him assisted living, which was very nice, and then they told me that he needed more care. He was put in the same place, but it's a section that they have for memory care, and he doesn't like it as much because he's locked. They don't let him get out, which is for their own benefit, because they could get lost, but he's not used to that. The people are nice, and it's clean. They have good meals, and it's not as expensive as the other place. However, they have very little activities. They have bingo, and that's it. They need more activities for the memory-care people. My husband likes to go outside and look at the cars, and he's not able to unless I go and take him myself. They should have somebody take him outside for a while every day.

The staff was very friendly and very caring. However, Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road (Formerly Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates) appeared to need some updates, and the painting needed to be touched up. It just looked like it was starting to become a little rundown. Their dining area seemed to be rather small, and that was the first area that gave me a little bit of concern because the floor was sticky. But everybody working with the residents seemed to be wonderfully caring. They were engaging them. All of that was positive. The facility just needed some TLC. They had some games and different people came in and played music, but we didn't talk about a lot of that. The rooms for the residents were larger than some of the other places, but they just needed to be remodeled.

The reason why we chose Brookdale N. Fredericksburg was because there are only 13 people there, so it is a smaller scale. She is getting more of a one-on-one care than too many people and not enough care. She is in an Alzheimer's unit. We seemed happy with them. We like that it is a smaller scale. They do like everybody else; they cut down their staff whenever there is less people, so that kind of bothers me because sometimes they are short-handed; like if they only had 9 people, then they only have one person there at night. More activities for the Alzheimer's unit to do, and it could be a little cleaner.

My wife had actually stayed at Emeritus on Fredericksburg Road. I really wasn't that impressed with this place. They mixed the medication, they had her clothes on backwards, it looked like they didn't wash her hair for a week, and a lot of clothes were missing when I went to pick her up. This is just after two weeks. The employees there seemed nice, and they were accommodating. When you're looking for respite care, it is not easy to find a place that will take you, so they were accommodating. They accommodated my schedule, and that was the biggest plus.

It is also an older facility but they are doing a lot of refurbishing. Their rooms are spacious for the price. They do have activities but I'm not familiar with all of them. They have crafts. They also have music in the dining room.

I visited this facility

My husband, myself and my mother had lunch at Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates and the food was very good. They have a basic menu, but they were very willing to do different meal plan. The staff is very, very friendly and very accommodating. They were very concerned with making sure my mother would have the correct level of care which made me feel very at ease. They also have a very pretty courtyard. Their building is old, but they are doing some interior works. When we were there we saw repairman fixing things that needed to be fixed so that was kind of neat. The rooms are nice.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother lived at Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates for about a month and a half. I thought the staff were good and the people we dealt with were pretty good. The place was clean and well-kept. Generally, the rooms were pretty good. Sometimes the housekeeping was not as good as we liked but when we called their attention, it was taken cared of. She liked the food and she was quite pleased with it. Overall, we were fairly pleased with it. There was room for improvement but we were definitely satisfied.

My Mom has been in Emeritus. But she's gone now. Way back when my mom was still with them, everything was okay. The facility is very nice and clean. It is a wonderful place to live and the people are all warm and caring. A good place to recommend to others.

I visited this facility

We visited the Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates while searching for a suitable assisted living facility for my brother's friend. Many of their family members live in the area, so this would be an ideal place for him to live. The outer grounds looked well-kept and pleasant. The main foyer had a lovely receiving area, reminiscent of a quaint country home. The private rooms were decorated tastefully with a homey, light and airy atmosphere. Each unit has nice views of the surrounding area. Bathrooms were designed with safety seats and rails. The dining areas were nicely designed and warm. Residents may choose communal dining or more private situations. The food looked deliciously prepared, as well as nutritious. The dietician and chef changes up the menu to keep it interesting and encourage resident to make suggestions. There are places for seniors to visit with families, as well. Residents can enjoy the many nooks and crannies where ample seating areas adorn the many windows. It seemed easy for the seniors to make new friends, given the variety of activities available, such as the book club, art and exercise classes. Residents also enjoy outings to nearby attractions regularly, in addition to community clubs and interactions. We liked that they prepare care plans around what each person needs - and that they are flexible enough to change the level of care as becomes necessary. The staff was very friendly and we could see that the residents are all happy there.

I visited this facility

This is an upscale assisted living facility that feels nice and cosy. Having visited other assisted living facilities, I found the staff was friendlier here, the facilities were more, and the overall environment felt much safer. The cost of living is consistent with the average cost for these facilities in San Antonio. This doesn't hurt the pockets of Seniors who may have limited retirement savings to dig into. However, I found that the facility could have been more transparent in the disclosure of the various fees and payments for any additional services that the seniors may require. Otherwise, the facility totally exceeds expectations. They make a plan customized for each resident, based on their individual needs. They allow residents to take their own medications though, in that sense it is not too restrictive or intrusive in the day-to-day life of the residents. Pets are welcome to stay in the community as long as they are not ferocious. Overall, it provides a nice environment for residents to spend their sunset years in an enjoyable way.

I visited this facility

I didn't call first, didn't make an appointment, just walked in to take a tour of the facility. The receptionist greeted with a smile and a handshake. I said that I was sorry for walking in like this and said I was just in the area and wanted to look around. She told me it was No Problem.I never felt an instant of inconveniencing anyone. Instead I felt like I had made an appointment a month in advance and everyone was expecting me. I had a chance in the few minutes I waited for her to watch and listen to the residents surrounding me as they went about their daily living at the assisted living community. I heard someone exclaim from the restaurant behind me, "that was a good dinner." Good to know.
