I visited this facility

We toured Brookdale Rome. The manager came out and greeted us. We were expected because we had an appointment. She showed us around the lobby and down the halls. There was a sunroom or something like that. A lot of the folks interacted with one another. There were nice porches outside with nice rocking chairs and nice big fat pillows to sit down. They had nice sidewalks with manicured grass and things like that. It looked really good. We didn't go and see a room, but we saw layouts of the rooms. We could have saw a room if we wanted to, but we didn't want to disturb the resident there. They gave us floorplans of the different apartments, the sizes, and everything. They gave us menus about the different foods. They even gave us the menu of the day's food and all the activities. Tuesdays and Thursdays are the days that they'll take you to the stores or places like that. You have to make your doctor's appointments on Tuesday or Thursday, otherwise they won't take you. The staff who welcomed us was a salesperson. She was trying to sell us on that. She did a good job. She laid out everything. The place looked extremely well. Nothing was out of place. The furniture was nice. There was no clutter around. It was all open. People with disabilities did get around easily. People seemed to be really nice. We saw people moving in, and they were all happy to be moving.

I went to look at Brookdale Rome. Everybody seemed friendly and professional. The room looked nice. You could tell that it was a little older, but I think it would have been fine. Everything seemed nice and clean. It seemed like they had a lot of different activities. They had a calendar, which showed that they did different things like bingo. People come in on Sunday and do a small church service. I think it would be a good place for my dad.

My grandmother really likes Brookdale Rome the best. She is not quite ready to move into senior assisted living yet, but once she is ready, probably some time next year, Brookdale is probably going to be the place that she will go. Brookdale Rome was really great. They were super nice and super sweet. They even sent my grandmother a pecan pie to her house even though she is not going to move there yet. They're really nice, the place is very clean and it's a great place. I like the rooms, they're great size. It's really nice as far as the facility goes. They have a room where they can do different kinds of activities. They have an old 1950s setup as far as the food and the restaurant that they have in there; that's neat as well. It seems like the people take great pride in working at Brookdale. They take really good care of the residents that are there. The staff actually went into one assisted living patient's room and showed us the setup that she has. She's super nice to the resident that is currently there.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Some caregivers just don’t care. The food quality is terrible and not a balanced diet. If you are thinking of moving here, don’t. If you are thinking of having a loved one living here, if you love them don’t. I know some people may like living here, I don’t. Just giving an insight to this assisted living here from my point of view. They will probably not post this because it is not pleasing to them, but I will get the word out somehow, someway I will be heard about Brookdale in Rome Georgia, one of 772 facilities that this corporation owns. So much for caring, this place is one in many owned by a money making place.

Brookdale Rome is perfect. The staff is kind, willing, available, always smiling, and always positive. I have nothing negative to say about them. They have a calendar of events. They have church services, games, activities, and brain teasers. They try to hit an activity level for so many different residents like for those having brain problems or walking issues. My mother has had a brain injury, so she has not been able to participate at the very beginning of our stay, but now she's participated in the past month or so and she really enjoyed it. They get the residents together to make friendships in their new situation. It's awesome.

Toured this facility ( non scheduled) Staff very rude. Not one single person ask me if they could assist me in anyway. I walked every hallway went inside and out of different areas, no-one questioned me. Most of staff was congregated in kitchen, drinking and talking to staff there. One staff was in lobby as I came in, passing meds, distributing eye drops without gloves and talking on their cell phone. Very unprofessional. Staffs uniforms were very unkept, Facilities were however very clean. Visited a couple other facilities in area, the residents seemed to have access to snacks through out building, did not see that at Brookdale.

My mom has been living at Brookdale Rome for three years. They are very nice and treat her well, but the level of service is lacking. One of my main concerns is the fact that every little thing is additional. You have your monthly rent and if you're on medication, they want you to use their pharmacy, which they charge you through the nose for. They also charge for each prescription and each time they have to dispense that prescription. If they have to have extra people checking on them more than normal and bring their meals to them, that's an extra charge. Everything they do is an extra charge. It's too expensive. It's clean and the people are nice, but it's like they want to get all the money from people before they die.

Provider Response

I have visited several places in my area and selected Brookdale Rome. It has the services I need at a price that I can easily afford, and it is very close to the school that I have retired from but still active at. Location was the major factor. I like the staff people very much. The room is much smaller than what I now have, but it is quite adequate. I am on the waiting list. Compared to the other places I have visited, it is quite modern and well maintained.

We're moving into Brookdale Rome. It's very friendly and very clean. You get three meals a day, housekeeping once a week, and linens and towels done once a week. The dining room is open 24 hours a day, so in-between meals, you can get snacks. Every Saturday, they take an outing to different stores, like Dollar General, drugstores, and supermarkets, on a regular basis. They have transportation to the doctors on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Brookdale Rome was extensive. There were lots of rooms that were very luxurious, elegant, and pretty. The building had recently been redone. It was very upscale. Only those who could afford it could move in there. There were no riffraff there. It was beautiful. You would sit down in their dining room, and there would be a menu. There were spices and all kinds of stuff. The place was like the Marriott of the senior living centers, that's for sure. I was wowed by the whole facility. I felt like I needed to dress up just to go on a tour of the place.

I took a tour and spent a couple of hours on two different days there at Brookdale Rome. The place is immaculate and very clean. Everybody there seems happy. The food was good. They seemed very well organized although the place is kind of high. But other than that, it seems fairly nice when I compare it to the other places in the area. The workers there seemed very nice and attentive. They called here several times in the last month and a half to make sure everything is alright. My mom can talk to them and ask what she wanted to ask. Her apartment has a bathroom, a living room, and a kitchenette.

I like Brookdale Rome's floor plan, I like the idea to be able to choose your meal, and they don’t have strict time to eat. It is spacious outside, and I love outdoors, so I like that part as well.

Horizon Bay had been newly renovated, and I loved it. It was bright and airy. The remodeling was terrific. They had really updated it. All of the community rooms just looked great compared to the old décor, so it really made a difference. I felt that my parents would have really liked it. The very first time I visited, I was impressed with it. That's why when my parents actually agreed to move from Arizona over here to Georgia area, that was where I had in mind to move them; however, my parents didn't want to move to ALF. They offered a two-bedroom apartment, and that was very important to my parents. It had two bedrooms, a living area, and a little kitchenette with a sink and a small refrigerator. As for their dining facility, the thing that I really liked about it was they had an opportunity for the residents to eat on their own schedules. For example, my parents like to eat their heavy meal at noon; at Horizon Bay, they had a menu plan that allowed them to do that. They had selections so that if another resident wanted to have just a salad for lunch, they could have that as well, then have their heavy meal later. So it seemed much more flexible and accommodating for the various different styles of eating. I thought that was really nice. I saw their activities room, and they had two separate areas. One of them had art supplies, and another one had a large screen TV and lots of equipment like that. They had chair exercises and games. They had puzzles sitting out that were in progress. They also had something lovely along the north side of the facility. There was a dining room there that was virtually all windows. It looked out to landscapes. They had deer coming, and they would feed the deer daily, so they have that wildlife that people can enjoy. The staff was very friendly. They were so courteous to the residents, and they would always call them by name. If and when I ever need my parents to come back here, that is definitely a place I would look at again.

Horizon Bay Rome was really impressive. It was great. I think the facility is independent living with some assistance available. The people there were very friendly. The clients seemed very happy and content. The food looked good. It was appealing. For accommodations, the one we looked at was a single bedroom with a living area and a very tiny microwave kitchen situation. It was decorated well and it was cozy.

I was very pleased with Horizon Bay. I like the facility, the staff, and the director of sales. I like the presentation that they all add in. The environment I think was the most impressive. It was clean, the staff was very professional, and the food is excellent.

I visit this facility at least twice a week. Once I stayed here for about a week to watch my grandparents cat while they were away. I've eaten here numerous times and most of the time the food has been good to excellent, but sometimes not good at all. The lunch menu is the same as the dinner menu, which means you might eat the same dish twice in one day. One time they served a delicious Thanksgiving-style buffet lunch, but by dinner time most of the dishes had been warmed over too much and was a little cold. Overall, I would say the food is quite good 85% of the time. Most of the staff are very friendly and helpful without being over-bearing. Many of the staff are pet lovers and often inquire about my grandparents cat. The facility is always clean. There are several washing machine rooms with multiple washers and dryers per room. The retirement complex is surrounded by a nicely wooded area where wildlife can be seen often. It is a nice area to go for a stroll or run. There is also a hospital and several medical clinics located close by. My grandparents had to make some adjustments to their lifestyle after moving here but overall I'd say they are both happier and better off.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I visited Horizon Bay frequently. I had a great experience because when i got there i had no idea what to expect but after spending time with my aunt i realized she was getting excellent care. In the assisted living program, they focus on maintaining or improving the residents' health so they can live as independently as possible. At the same time, their warm, caring staff is always ready to lend a hand with anything from laundry to medication management. My aunt is here for 2 years and she loves it. She enjoys the activities they plan for her, and the staff treats her very well. The food is good and she always gets her medicine on time. . The social calendar activities inside the facility and field trips are regularly scheduled. There is a pretty garden visible to residents who cannot manage to go outside due to health limitations. The staff made available to our family a private room to celebrate our aunt's birthday with her special favorite foods we brought in. I would recommend the facility for our loved ones.
