Our family visited the M&E Care facility in Pinole, CA as a consideration for our aunt, since it has a reputation for dealing with all kinds of residents. Our aunt suffers from short term memory loss, so it was important for us to find a place that could adequately handle this. Her exact condition is unknown at this time, so we needed to find a place that could regularly evaluate her and adapt to her needs.

The communal rooms were warm and inviting, if a bit stiff looking. They were all clean and everyone seemed like they were well-cared for. The private rooms were spacious and nicely decorated.

There is a variety of activities offered and each resident is able to participate in whatever he or she likes to do. However, the staff will encourage residents to participate if they feel it is necessary.

The organic food that we tried was quite delicious and we were impressed to find a facility that serves it, which is probably because they have a part time nutritionist on staff. Snacks of all kinds are always available. They monitor what the residents eat and ensure that they are adequately fed.

We saw many types of residents, from non-ambulatory to those who could walk on their own. Our aunt is fully ambulatory and only has memory issues. The caregivers all seemed quite nice and interested in helping the residents.

We were definitely impressed with the atmosphere at this facility, however, it is a bit further out from where most of our family lives. We wanted to check it out in case the top facilities we are considering are not available.
