I visited this facility

I have been to the MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Arrowhead to see it. The tour was pretty good. It was actually a pretty excellent place. Their facilities were also good. They were very clean and very inviting. We met with Michael, and he was very good as well. They had a bistro, where you can hang out. They had bingo. They had movie nights in their theater. They had different events that were sometimes off-site. They also provide transportation. They had an outdoor area for when the weather's warmer. It was pretty nice there.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I'm living in MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Arrowhead. It has everything that I've been looking for. I negotiated the price, and the price is good now. But I would suggest anybody who is looking to come here. It's a good place. Negotiate the price. One staff member, her name is Mandy, and she's horrible. She decided that she had to come look at me when I was sitting on the toilet. She changed my thermostat, and she came in and vacuumed while I was on the phone. That is one major, major negative about this place. Everything else is quite good. Very good meals. They're doing a lot of things, but they're not things that I want to do, mostly it's bingo, and I don't like bingo. It's too long, and it's boring. It's fine after I have negotiated everything, which includes medical, which includes health care, price, includes everything when you negotiate with these people. It's a wonderful place to live.

I visited this facility

MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Arrowhead had a lot of nice qualities to it. What I liked the most was if you ever needed to move your loved one from assisted living to memory care, the staff would move all the furniture, so when you come back, the room looked the same, but it'd be in the memory care already, not assisted living. So, I liked the fact that they were very helpful in that manner. The area looked great and everything was wonderful about it. I primarily looked at the assisted living apartment area, and then we walked over to the memory care. Penny did a great job during the tour. She was very wonderful, very knowledgeable, and very friendly. The place was very clean, very nice, and they seemed very happy there too.

I visited this facility

My Mom is going on “99” years old and she needed a special kind of place with a great staff to look after her and provide the vast care you can imagine she would need. Mom has called Morning Star her home for over a year and enjoys living there especially sharing time with all her friends. :)

I visited this facility

I visited MorningStar in Glendale. It was okay, I liked the layout of the place. I think two things really turned me off though. One was the price, they were offering some kind of reduction in the monthly rent but there obviously would be no guarantee that it would stay at that amount. So, I was a little concerned that it would be a bait and switch. The second thing was that they were paranoid about COVID, they pretty much had everybody locked in their rooms and that was just not gonna fly with my mom. She would never accept something like that, she'll never move in and be happy being isolated. I think they were way over-concerned about COVID. It was just 2-story and was easy to get around in so I liked that. I'm sure they had activities but with COVID they're not doing anything.

Thank you for touring MorningStar. Our rates are commensurate with the area, but we are pleased to offer seasonal incentives with clear parameters. It would be in opposition to our mission to be anything other than transparent with our fees. We also offer the resources of a “financial concierge” by which families can explore payment options for their retirement. As to COVID-19, knowing its aggravated impact on seniors, we have been vigilant in protecting resident health. Thanks to layered defenses, our Arrowhead community has been minimally impacted by the pandemic. Residents would never be “locked” in their apartments. Isolation is in effect only when a person has COVID, and only until testing confirms resolution. Small socially-distanced groups gather throughout the day. We offer entertainment and activities modified for the ordinances given by local authorities. We eagerly await direction from the Governor’s task force as it relates to full reopening. Meanwhile, MorningStar was pleased to host vaccine clinics, inviting residents and team to participate, encouraged by its reported efficacy. Wishing you and family all the best.

My mom for the moment is confined to bed. ALL the staff at this facility are excellent care providers. Mom's phone was dead and the nurse called me so I could talk to her. That meant the world to me. They go above and way beyond in caring for their residents. I love them all and sleep well knowing my mom is in such capable hands. Thank you.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom came to Morningstar March 1, 2020. I wish I would have moved her directly to morning star when she wanted to leave my home the year earlier because she felt she was a burden, but she was not. When I left her at the other facility I felt like a horrible daughter and worried about her all the time. When I moved her to Morningstar I felt like I was bringing her to the best place possible and a true home. They quickly proved me right. Erin, Shannon, Tammy and the entire Morningstar team treated her amazing with dignity and compassion and during the most difficult time with the Coronavirus and her end stages COPD. From the first day there her quality of life improved tremendously from her daily bingo sessions to actually going to meals and looking forward to the wonderful food they would cook her. Even if she didn’t want to eat something on the menu that day, cook would cook her something special for her. I tell everyone that they are the best care facility for their loved ones. My mom got a room where she sat at her bay windows and would love to watch the world outside. When she got bored she would get on her scooter and go cause silliness like racing the staff on her scouter in the hall ways. And even in the end when our loved ones where dying alone- Morningstar safely allowed me in to be with her till she passed with me laying right next to her. I can not express enough my gratitude for this and everything else they did for my mom and our family.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We're now in MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Arrowhead and right now everything is on lockdown. The place is comfortable and all of the floors are carpeted unless someone asks to leave their room uncarpeted. The food is up and down, though the majority of the meals are good, well-done or cooked well. Usually every meal has vegetables and meat, and there are 2 choices per meal. The staff provides us with shower assistance and medication management help. Right now, there's not much in the way of activities since we can't go outside. That's hardly the fault of the community. But we have a new program director and she's very active and encouraging those around in the rooms every other day and talk about people on upcoming things. Our room is adequate. Within the last several months, they have changed almost all of the staff and they're mostly all on learning mode. And with the virus, everything has been stifled. Generally they're pleasant and always have a smile and they're open to our policies.

Staff turnover is high and call-light (pendants) not answered. In a timely manner. They say 10 minutes but this can take up to An hour before someone responds. Staff complain they are short of help. Medications not given in timely manner and many medications not even administered. Med tech (not nurses) pass meds and LPN oversee the med techs. Many medication errors. Leadership does not take ownership and always had excuses. For the price, services need improvements. More affordable facilities within area.

By our electronic records, our average response time to call-lights is 8 minutes. Our staffing ratios are determined by the acuity of our current population of residents in each neighborhood, as reflected in each service plan. In Arizona, MedTechs must be certified before dispensing medications. Our MedTechs are no exception; their dispensing protocols are strictly maintained and monitored, further enhanced by our electronic health record solution, QuickMAR, used to record and document med administration from every aspect. Our Licensed Nurse, competent and experienced as she is in senior living, is advancing her education to the level of Registered Nurse. I am/was a resident of this facility

We have three Concierge’s and they cover the front desk from 7am to 5 or 6pm every day of the week.They are Belly, Carry, and Lulu . Another careing person is the Assisted Living Coordinator who creates a schedule for Caregivers and Med-techs for 24hrs. a day 7days a week! The caregivers and Med-techs work 8hrs. a day covering 2 floors answering pennant lights from residents who have a need or questions. Each resident wears a pendant that they can push and it sends a call to the caregivers to go to help. Caregivers also help residents get to activities that they want to be at and to all meals on time.

Morning Star Arrowhead is managed terribly. The staff and care is horrible. When a resident hits their button for help the staff can take up to an hour to see what's wrong. It's a rotating staff. They don't stay there very long. The food is terrible as I hear complaints from other residents. I will say the facility is new and looks nice but that is it has going for itself.

We are so sorry to learn of your disappointment in us, trying as diligently as we are to serve and care with distinction. Our average response time to call buttons is 10 minutes. Some response are very much quicker, but the occasional one extends longer, depending upon what is happening at the moment in the community. Our staff attrition is something we are perpetually focused on reducing, a challenging prospect for any senior living community, with both the robust economy and shortage of healthcare workers as driving factors. We boast 17 Care Managers who have been with MorningStar over two years (since our opening), 16 over a year, 12 over 6 months, and 10 newly hired within the last 6 months. We enjoy widespread satisfaction with the food we serve, receiving less than five complaints from residents. Our Executive Chef meets with the Food Committee every month, and they always tell her what a great job she is doing, We are seeking more dedicated servers in the dining room.

I like the people at MorningStar. The place is smaller, and the facility is new, so I think it will be good for my mom to grow with them. The staff is very good, very attentive, and caring. The food is very good.

I visited this facility

I have visited and referred clients to Good Spirits Assisted Living Home this year. In general, I thought Good Spirits Assisted Living was an interesting home when I first visited the home initially. After they changed the staff the home did see a change. This home is not in the greatest area so at times you will see the graffiti on the side gates. The front yard has a nice garden and the backyard is huge with a lot of space. The common areas of the facility is ok only thing is the dining area is very small not a lot of room to move around at all.   The residents' rooms are mainly semi private but are a descent size. There is only two bathrooms that are not very big, but does the job. The staff is a couple that has changed the house around in the last months. The management has been in the business for many years and has been very successful. While I was there, I noticed the residents were well cared for and the house was very clean. Overall, Good Spirits Assisted Living Homes is a nice home and I would recommend it to a specific group of people. I give this home three stars.

Newly opened in September 2015 on the north side of Glendale, MorningStar offers residents a lifestyle of comfort, wellness, and community within its warm and inviting common areas and contemporary décor.
