I am a friend or relative of a resident
My mother and her partner wanted a facility with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. And Emeritus was the only one that actually had that apartment. They were pretty much responsive to the questions and concerns that I had. However, my mom's partner complained all the time that they were not responsive to him. I don't know if it was just a difference in perception. My mom complained about the food, but she was also having a lot of eating difficulties. One of the other reasons I chose this facility was they did have an option of things that people could do, but they wouldn't insist that people do them. They're not really pushy about activities. I thought that was a good thing because my mom and her partner were not interested. They just wanted to do their own thing. So they were happy with that.
But I think a lot of the time the staff was disorganized. They could improve on communication between the management and the staff, so that they're not all answering the same questions with different answers. As for the nursing staff, the med techs, my mom was really happy with all of them. They were polite to her and did what she needed. She already passed. She's only been there about six weeks.
I visited this facility
We liked the area and how the room was set up in Emeritus. They took us upstairs and showed us what the rooms looked like. There were two bedrooms and a kitchen area. It was a nice size bedroom. The place was nice, everybody we talked was really gracious. They were going to come and do a nursing assessment for us, so we could see what we needed because they too didn't really give all the services that my brother was going to need. What I didn't like about the facility was there was no private bedrooms. It was just like a hospital room, two beds almost side by side. There were like partitions, but still. I guess you could get a private, but he couldn't afford that. But one thing lead to another and the next thing I know my brother ended up in a hospital.
I have visited Emeritus at Phoenix quite a few times and I have always been satisfied with what I have witnessed during my visits. The facility is always immaculate and the staff members are always right there to welcome you to the building and assist you with whatever your needs may be. They treat all of the residents like their own parents or grandparents and I always love to see the interaction between the staff and the residents because it is always so caring and patient. I remember on one of my visits, I spoke with a resident who loved the TV show MASH. He told me that for his birthday the staff all chipped in and got him the entire series on DVD. He said that he was so shocked and taken back by their kindness that it was right then he realized that he was exactly right where he was meant to be. He said the fact that the staff members paid such close attention to him to know what his favorite TV show was made him feel so special and he will never forget what they did for him that day or any other day. He said that they provide him with the nicest and kindness care that he could ever wish for. I hear a lot of stories like this from the residents, the staff really do take the time to get to know each resident personally and they remember the little things that are most important to each resident because the residents are so important to them. I always look forward to my visits of Emeritus at Phoenix and I am always excited for the residents to fill me in on all their latest adventures.
