I visited this facility

Brookdale North Augusta was very attractive. It was a very small group, and it's set back off the road, so it would be quiet. I liked it a lot. The staff was very informative, friendly, and thorough. The facility was perfect. It looked very comfortable, bright, and very clean. It's hands down my favorite, but my mother didn't like the location because it's in South Carolina.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My parents were in Brookdale North Augusta. It's a very nice facility, although it was not a good fit for my parents. He had fallen and crushed three vertebrae in his back, so he was not able to really get around as well as he should for assisted living. And my mother has Alzheimer's but they do not have a memory care facility. The staff members were wonderful, they had a lot of staff that had been there for a very long time. So that says a lot to me. The dining area was very nice and the food was good. They have a nice courtyard in the middle of the facility, they have a large front porch with rocking chairs, and they have sidewalks that go around so the residents can get out and walk. It's just not a good fit for my parents. They were a little beyond assisted living.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother-in-law is at Brookdale North Augusta. It's very homey and an older assisted living facility, but very well-maintained. The room she's in right now is rather small though, almost like a dorm room or a very small efficiency apartment. I don't know what the other rooms look like, but her room is very small. The executive director and the RN are very dedicated and good at their jobs. Like everywhere else right now, I think they're having trouble with keeping fully staffed with other workers who are not RNs, just trained caregivers. My mother-in-law has not been able to participate too much in the activities. I think they have several, but because of her condition she really can't. I know they have movies and games and things, but she hasn't been able to participate. She raves about the food, for the most part. She thinks the food is good.

I visited this facility

I was looking for places in the phonebook and I found Sterling House. I like Sterling House, it was very clean. They did have a beautiful dining room and sitting room with a TV. They also have beautiful garden in the back of the facility and I was taken by it. I think like most ALF, this one seemed to be rather quiet in terms of environment. There was music playing but it was low because there were people watching TV in the sitting area. The environment was really good and I like it. The staff was very good, very friendly, and very outgoing. They answered all the questions I had. As a matter of fact, they took me into an apartment of a lady there. It was supposed to be a two-bedroom apartment but she made one room into a little sitting area and the other room into her bedroom. There was like a foyer area. There was also a bathroom with sliding door on it. She had a microwave and a small refrigerator. She also had a nice window where she could see out. It was kind of like any apartment would be. They were also allowed TV in their room. In terms of activities, I did know they had bingo, movie nights, and crafting activities. They would play a lot of games.

Sterling House was our favorite. It was exceptional. I think it was very open, bright and inviting. It was home-like as well. The staff was well-informed and seemingly very competent. I like that they're very friendly too. Their rooms were small but comfortable for assisted living.

I visited this facility

The lady that I talked to at Sterling House of North Augusta-Brookdale Senior Living was really helpful. Her name is Margaret. It's situated very close to where my parents' doctors are and where they do some business, where my mom get's her hair done and things like that. It's not far from where I live. It consists of a lot of things that appeal to me. The place always seem to be very clean when I go in there, I've used the bathroom in there and they've always been clean. I've seen them when they're eating and their food looked nice, it smelled good. Everyone seems to be happy there.

The facility is kept really nice and neat. The structure is up-to-date and has a very pleasant smell. As you visit this facility, you will be greeted by very nice employees who are there willing to help and assist with anything that you ask of them. I did however notice a lot of people living within the facility, that looks like they have no family or friends to help them with personal needs such as money and sorts. They look so lonely and I feel like sometimes they feel abandoned. This was not really pleasant to experience. The food they feed the elderly does not look like normal food. It looks like it is slop, although I noticed it does have a pleasant smell. Which I thought was really odd. When I visit this facility, I never have any problems with the employees. Everyone seems so kind and well enthused at seeing people visit their facility, they are always trying to help and find a way to make it as comfortable as possible for the ones residing there.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I had always heard wonderful things about this facility but up until recently had never had the opportunity to see for myself. What I found was that the staff members were always friendly and courteous. I especially noted how nice they were to "Papa's" young three year old granddaughter. When she visited they would always make a point to say hello and actually speak to her, which I thought was so very sweet and really helped her cope with this change in her "Papa's" life. While I personally did not have any contact with the social worker/admitting team I thought that it was wonderful that they were able to place "Papa" and his wife in the same room. I felt that this was so important because it allowed them some sense of normalcy at a time when they were dealing with much upheaval and turmoil. The building and grounds are beautifully maintained, and it's obvious the staff take great pains to make sure that the facility feels like a home rather than an "institution." This, again, is wonderful for the residents and the family and friends that are frequent visitors. Another big benefit of this personal care home was it's location. It is located in the center of town and was therefore easily accessible to all family and friends who visited. All in all, I really don't have a negative word to say about this assisted living center. I hope that my own parents will not need such a facility for many more years, but if/when they do I would not hesitate to use Sterling House.
