My mom got assessed by Charter but they declined her. The Rehab facility that my mom was at had to told me. Called to see why but nobody called me back. Was told that I would get the deposit back if she could not go to Charter. That was said with my Aunt and I touring the facility.

We're very pleased with Charter Senior Living of Newport News, and if we can swing it, we'll probably give it a try and get my mother-in-law in there. It was very lovely and clean. The people were very friendly. Even the people that lived there were very friendly, they were trying to get us in there. It was very nice. The 1-room was very nice and laid out to a courtyard. It's a little big for my mother-in-law, but the smaller one is still very nice. They have large bathrooms and just enough room for what she needed. Everything looks great. They had lots of things, and the dining room's very nice and clean. We're highly impressed.

I went to Charter Senior Living of Newport News. It looked clean, the staff was friendly, and they greet you. They have daily activities. I think they had bingo and some word games. I saw an apartment, and you have to bring your own furniture. They have a salon.

I went here and was impressed that the marketing representative seemed to be up on some of the new things that were happening in the community. They have things for seniors like watching TV and open dining. They didn't have regimented mealtimes, which was good. I looked at both assisted living and memory care. They have one staff for physical therapy, and that's really good. The staff member took me on a tour of unoccupied rooms. The memory care was different in terms of the flooring because of the type of accidents (possibly from the residents). The safety within the rooms seemed really good.

Everything is nice here. I don't have any complaints right now. The place is clean, big, and a newer building. They have physical therapy, beauty salon, a gym, a coffee café, TV room, family rooms that you can reserve for parties, bingo, birthday parties, and field trips. They have snacks anytime they want them, along with the three meals. They serve good food, and the dining room is a nice size. They have probably about 12 to 15 tables in there, so it's not crowded. Whenever my family goes up there, they feel really good about where Mom is.

We're extremely satisfied with them. The very friendly and competent staff is very attentive to the needs of the residents, and we're extremely pleased. They offer any number of activities, they have daily activities of various types, the food is outstanding, and I don't think we could have picked a better place for my mother-in-law.

It is fine. My mother doesn’t like it, but they’re really not a bad facility. It is clean, but they could do a little better cleaning on the rooms. Basically, overall, I like the place. There’s a nice courtyard with activities. The only thing is that the nurses are really busy there. I don’t think the food is too bad. It’s your typical institutionalized food. The soups are outstanding, but some of the food was a little bland.

I like the fact that they have somebody at the front desk checking people in and out, monitoring who comes in and out as well as helping people find the residents they are looking for, or connect to the people they need to connect with. They have a more welcoming atmosphere. On Sundays, they have different church services for different religions that people can attend. They have a shuttle service that takes the residents shopping. The downside of this facility is that the traffic tends to get heavy.
