I visited this facility

Avery Crossing is an assisted living and independent living facility (but no memory care) attached to Avery Manor, which offers skilled nursing. I'm a geriatric care manager, and it's in my community, so I've been there many times. I've referred clients there, visited patients, and was just there last week.

It's located in Needham Heights, on the commuter rail line, adjacent to the station, and close to shops, restaurants, banks, a grocery store. It's an excellent location. It's a converted factory, and the apartments are exceptionally large--with full galley kitchens, a bedroom, large living room, nice windows, and views. They're very comfortable. It's a large two-story building, though, so it can be hard to get around for those who aren't physically able to walk easily.

The direct care staff is very good, but it can sometimes be hard to find the personal care assistants because of the layout. I've talked to several people who live there now, and they're quite happy with the care.

The activities program is average. There's lots of interaction with the local community; the Needham Garden Club comes in, for example. But there's not a lot that's special beyond that.

For the right resident, though, I'd rate it a 4.
