What to Consider About Assisted Living in Naples

In Naples and the rest of Florida, assisted living facilities are regulated under the Agency for Health Care Administration and Bureau of Health Facility Regulation. Its website has a list of long-term care regulations and statutes, licensing information and contact information for residents who want to file a complaint about a facility.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Assisted Living in Naples

  • NCH Baker Downtown Hospital is the biggest medical facility serving Naples. It’s conveniently located in the heart of the city and easily accessible by public transportation. This hospital offers primary and urgent care, diagnostic imaging, specialty services and virtual care, which enables seniors to see a doctor from the comfort of home.
  • CATConnect provides door-to-door transportation to Collier County residents who don’t have access to any other means of transit and are unable to ride the regular bus system due to a disability. CATConnect can drive seniors to stores, appointments, Social Security offices and other destinations in Collier County.
  • Naples has a cost of living index of 119.9, which is higher than the national index of 100. Housing (140), groceries (117) and health care (101) are more expensive, but utilities (97.9) and transportation (80.6) are cheaper than average.
  • Naples and Florida are tax-friendly to seniors. The state charges zero income tax, including no taxes on Social Security benefits, 401(k)s, pensions and IRA earnings. Additionally, Florida has no inheritance or estate taxes.
  • Naples receives no annual snowfall and 264 sunny days per year compared to the national average of 205. Winter temperatures are very comfortable, with an average low of 53 degrees in January. Summers can be hot and humid, though, and the city has an average high temperature of 91 degrees in July. Naples also gets 54 inches of rain per year, on average, while the typical U.S. city receives 38.
  • Naples’ air quality is slightly higher than the national average — the city has an index of 64 compared to the national index of 58. When it comes to water quality, Naples has an index of 53, just two points below the national index of 55.
  • Property and violent crime rates are quite low compared to other Florida cities. On average, the chance of experiencing violent crime in Naples is one in 910, and the odds of becoming a victim of property crime are one in 69. This makes Naples safer than 36% of other U.S. cities.
