I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

What makes The Kenwood such a unique and welcoming place are the people, many of whom have worked there for 10–22 years. It says a lot about the leadership of an organization to sustain that level of dedication. My mom lived at The Kenwood for 7.5 years, from 2015–2023. Although she initially resisted the idea of moving into an apartment, she came to love it, largely because everyone—resident director, nursing staff, activities director, dining room staff, facilities manager, etc.—treated her with warmth, respect, patience, and good humor. I deeply appreciated the staff's responsiveness and open communication, especially during COVID and also as my mom's health began to decline. The Kenwood may not have an Instagram-worthy lobby, but it's got what no interior designer can give you: a vibrant, caring community. Two other perks for my mom: it's just a block from Thomas Lowry Park and the seven pools, and a short walk to Walker Art Center, the Sculpture Garden, and Loring Park.

I liked The Kenwood. I've been there to see my friend. She invited us for lunch one day and we sort of did a bit of a tour around. It sounds very nice, and when I talked to her many times, she's quite happy there. They're set up -- she rents her apartment, which is a nice apartment. She can go down to two different meals in the dining room and they have a menu. They also have a lot of events and they take the residents to cultural events, which is very nice. She also has a car and a garage space. The thing I dislike most about it probably for me would be the location because it's a little bit far from the lake. She's quite happy with the people she meets there and the food. She's been there for two years now.

The personnel at The Kenwood were incredibly gracious, attentive, answered our questions directly, and if they didn't have the information, they went and got the information. They were absolutely superb in terms of the way they dealt with us. My mother was in crisis at the time. She was especially vulnerable to irritation and upset, and they were incredibly sophisticated in terms of how they handled her; they did a very good job. She is renting a one-bedroom with a full bathroom, a living room, and a small kitchen. It is arranged in a very convenient manner and feels very spacious because of the large windows. It also has a wonderful view of the city. They have a dining room and the food is excellent. There are lots of activities for seniors.

I visited this facility

I've had a friend at The Kenwood. She was in a two-bedroom and she started out as independent then she became more ill, but she didn't ever move. It's in the general neighborhood area of Minneapolis that I'm familiar with and not far from my daughter. My friend liked it very much and there were a lot of interesting programs to attend and lectures. They had a very pleasant dining room and fairly good food. They would bring in speakers. Their population was above average educationally, and they did the programming appropriately. Her apartment was nice.

Kenwood is an old facility, but everything is in really good condition. The staff is really helpful, too. The design of the building is good. It's tall -- 15 stories -- so none of the halls are very long. The food was nice. We were invited to come for a happy hour, and we got to meet some of the residents which I thought was a nice thing. If they're looking for a place that's close by with cultural venues and residents who are very well educated, it's a good choice.

The Kenwood was a wonderful, comfortable place with a very nice atmosphere. I got to go see one of the apartments and met four residents. They were off-chance meetings that were not scheduled; I just ran into them. The lady, Karen, introduced me to people who talked to me for a minute, and everybody said that they were really happy and comfortable there. The rates were very reasonable compared to everybody else, and the location was great. You couldn’t ask for a better location especially if you are used to being around in the city and having access to things. I was incredibly impressed with it. They have different packages at different prices for what they do for them and assisted living. If you need some short-term care or occasional help with stuff, you can purchase services as needed. It was very nice, and they had a lot of options for you to choose from.

My in-laws chose The Kenwood, and it’s a wonderful place. It's clean, bright, and cheerful. He chose this one because it's in closer proximity to their church and its closeness to downtown Minneapolis. They do have different activities for the residents. I am really impressed, and I feel that it's a very well-run facility.

The health aides and the nursing staff at The Kenwood are absolutely wonderful and quite responsive. The concierge knows their stuff that when you call, they know where to send you and you get someone on the phone. The apartments are great; the food is very good and the service is great. They do have 4 apartments that are end-of-life hospice. They do everything at the apartment that you are currently living in which is just wonderful.

It seemed like everybody there really cared for the residents of community. My friend's grandma got a lot of attention while we were there visiting her. They hold a lot of events to keep that promote community gathering for her and the other residents. She offered me her sandwich. I didn't want to eat it because I was expecting itto be really gross. Of course she forced me to eat it, I ate it, and it was really good! It tasted like something you could get from a sub restaurant. I always hear negative stereotypes about these sort of services but I didn't get that impression at all from this retirement community. They kept the community facilities clean. There is a fitness area for the people who live there that my friend's grandma uses quite regularly. I think a location like this is really necessary for somebody in their elder years, where they get taken care of with good nutrition and sufficient attention. It allows the people living there to feel at peace with them and the people they're living with.

I thought this was an amazing place for my grandmother to stay in. They had everything most other assisted living facilities do not have, such as full cable tv, daily continental breakfast and so on. It seemed like more of a hotel stay then the normal assisted living facility. Everyone on the staff I met was helpful and nice and neat in apperance. We moved her to this place after a few other less then worthy places around the city. It does cost abit more per month then the average place but is well worth the extra cash to know grandma will be safe. I would have to say that out of every nursing home i have seen in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa this was the best place for her and it seemed she was the most happy with it as well. Although there are a lot of others living with and around her it is not over populated. So if you are ever in need of a care home in the mid west this would be a great place to check into and see if you would enjoy it.
