I went to The Springs at Clackamas Woods, which I liked. If mom comes, that's where she'll go. It was very clean and a lot of the people that work there have worked there for a long time, which I think is always a very good sign. I met with a nice lady there, and she just raved about the place, so that was good. I felt like there were a lot of people there that were still mentally active. I think that's what I need to look for, for my mother. I saw two people in the marketing department and I liked both of them. They had a darling movie theater that you can go to. They had a nice gym and that's where they would do my mother's PT, and I liked that.

The Springs at Clackamas Woods wasn't prepared for my tour. They accommodated us though and it was the assistant who gave the tour, because the guy that runs it was just walking out to go home. The tour was just very brief. The rooms were smaller and oddly shaped, so I just didn't get the same vibe that we did from another place we visited. They didn't seem as well organized. Also, we didn't see that many residents out in the facility, which kind of bothered me.

My mom liked The Springs at Clackamas Woods, but she had a lot of trouble walking, even with her walker. It was going to be too much walking for her. She thought about going into assisted living because she knows eventually she'll need that, but there was no availability. So, we looked at the one apartment they had open on the independent living side, and she really liked it. It was pretty roomy. They all have a kitchen, which was nice, although she probably wouldn't anything other than the refrigerator and the microwave. She would also have had a view of the front of the building where people were coming and going, but because it was on the third floor, a good distance from the elevator, and quite a ways from the dining room, it was just going to be too much walking for her. We only really met the lady who gives the tours, and she was very pleasant, really, really nice, and very helpful. It's a very nice and beautiful campus, and I think they've done some remodeling. We saw the exercise room, the hair salon, and a place where they can get some cocktails or wine if they want to in the evenings.

My parents are at The Springs at Clackamas Woods. They're very good. They're #1, top of the line. If they had an outbreak, we would be contacted immediately and let us know what the steps were. They're at the forefront of doing air testing and doorknob testing and things like that, to see if there's any virus. They're very proactive and I'm very pleased with them. They have independent, assisted and memory care, so it's the whole spectrum. We originally toured before COVID, and they had tons of activities. They could even go out on the bus and go on different activities. They had a lot of acitivities inside, that's why my parents wanted to go there, but COVID hit and everyone had to stay in their rooms. We can't t go visit yet. We can only visit through the window and we can take them to doctors' appointments, but if they come out for any kind of get-together, they'd have to be quarantined for seven days and then they'd have a COVID test. They've had a total of 2-3 cases in their independent and 1 in their assisted, but besides that they've done a good job. The activities were originally pretty good. They have a little 1-bedroom apartment. It's just like any apartment and every time someone moves out of there, they redo the carpet. They just made a movie theater for them, although nobody can go in yet. The staff is very attentive. My dad always says that there's always somebody checking on them or doing something. They clean the rooms daily and empty their garbage daily. They check temperatures and doing everything they need to do. My parents never complain that they're being neglected at all. They do their laundry for them and change their bedding for them once a week, and they also do deep cleaning once a week. The staff is really good, but unfortunately in that industry, it's a transitory position and they move on to something else, so he says they're always training somebody. I haven't had to go and complain to anybody. I can't go in, but they've always been nice to me at the door. I think they're getting good value, and they're in the same room, so it's not expensive as getting separate rooms.

The staff that works directly with residents does the best they can, but the facility is short staffed all the time. Non-mobile residents need more equipment to assist them with bathing and bathroom use, hospital beds should be provided as residents need more assistance, cleaning is superficial, co-operation with Hospice and insurance companies needs a lot of work. If my family hadn't been there everyday to help, God only knows how bad it could have gotten.

The staff at The Springs at Clackamas Woods was excellent. They're very caring to the residents there. They go overboard to make your life a lot easier. The food was fair, but the service was very good. There were not as many activities as I thought there should have been, but they have entertainment, they go on trips outside, and there are games. Their facility was conducive to making friends and having a good life while there. The apartments or bedrooms were very small, but they're clean, and maintained beautifully. They have a lot of musical groups that come in and they do a little bit of card and game playing. They have special events and they also take us out to lunches and dinners.
