We toured Brookdale Midlothian. My friend enjoyed that. Her problem with that one was she felt more like a hotel setting, not a home setting but the food was good. We had lunch there. She was happy with all of it and said it was a very pleasant experience, and that's why she would like to go back and give it a second look. The staff was very lovely and helpful. It would serve her well. Everything was lovely, and she was very happy with it. They have the exercise, they have the community center where they can meet with other residents and she was very pleased.

I toured Brookdale Midlothian. It's a very nice facility but very expensive. The rooms and the closets are small. The tour was good. The staff was knowledgeable and professional. They have nice common spaces.

Brookdale Midlothian was fabulous. We had no complaints. I like the hominess of it. It did not feel like a nursing home or something of that nature. It just felt like you were coming into a home. The staff was very inviting and warm. Some of the residents were happy and looked well cared for and very friendly. The facility itself was just beautiful in the way it's laid out. It would be easy to navigate. The courtyard was gated. It checked off all our boxes as far as that goes. There was nothing that I could say "I'm not sure about that" or "I don't like that." The living quarters were nice and spacious. I wanted to move there. The staff during the tour was wonderful, very open, very informative, and very patient with all the questions that we had. This gave us a sense of security, knowing that if we were to choose this place for my mom, we would not have to worry. She would be in great hands. I love the dining room, the way it's set up and everything. It's very clean. The layout was very nice. It's very thought out. It would be easy for my mom to navigate from her room to the other areas, the library, and the TV room. Everything was clean. Everything smelled good. You felt like you were coming into a home and the way it's decorated and the whole feel, the atmosphere, just the whole welcoming feeling when you come through the door, even with the receptionist sitting at the front door. They're very friendly and very inviting.

I toured Brookdale Midlothian. The layout was good. Everything was on the first floor, and the facilities seemed to be adequate. I visited with the salespeople and all of them were good. If you needed more medical care, those were available, so it would have been a seamless transition if you had to get additional medical care. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. They had a courtyard which was small but nice.

The staff at Brookdale Midlothian was friendly. I liked the fact that the memory care unit is just one big square and they could go out into the courtyard, and no matter which door they go out or come back in, they're still in the memory care unit. Everything was clean. They were working on getting everyone set up and ready for a lunch when I was there. The rooms looked nice. I liked the way that they allow you to put your loved one's furniture in the room, and pictures, so they feel more at home. They had a salon there. The lady talked to me about a lot of different things that they try to do as far as activities. They keep them pretty active. The main thing that they need to do is when they're gonna do the tours, they need to try and have some of the activities going on, so I could see the activities and how they interact with the residents to get a better feel for if it would be a suitable place for my mother.

Brookdale Midlothian is beautiful, but it's only private pay. There are lots of services and amenities, lots of activities, and a caring staff. The clients were very eager to share their personal likes of the location, and they were very friendly. It was very nice. It's under renovation a little bit, and they have memory care as well. I saw evidence of activities as well as art projects. They have a lot of amenities, they provide transportation and outings, and laundry care. They have a beautician that comes in that can service the clients.

We found the community of Brookdale Midlothian as a whole to be caring and concerned for my mother as an individual. Everyone we've met has been amazing. Brooke, in particular, the sales director, has been really wonderful. The room that Mom's going to be in is small, but it'll do. They have lots of variety in the menu, so you have more than one option to choose from. They also have bingo games, a TV room, courtyard areas, and a beauty shop onsite.

I visited Brookdale Midlothian and was impressed with the open windowed offices of the staff to see out at all times, and easy access to the staff. I liked the warm family atmosphere and that they have an optometrist three days a week and doctors available. The staff we dealt with was patient, warm, friendly, and directive with good eye contact. They showed me the dining area, the semi-dining, and the seated areas. They seemed to be happy with where they were working and compassionate. The memory care room seemed to be adequate and a little above compared to all the others that I've seen at other facilities. It appeared to be clean and spacious. I was also impressed with their two activity rooms with the availability of a pretend shop area for the men and just varied activities to encourage them to wake up and have a routine. They also had fully stocked freshly prepared carts for hydration and for snacks that they take down to the hall. I thought that was very attentive. I liked the personal approach in the hallways at each person's door as well. There's a shadow box where you had information about who lived in that room so that you can have a conversation.

We love Brookdale Midlothian, but we only saw one room, and it's a private room with a private bath. It's absolutely wonderful. The lady who helped us was very informative and very helpful. I'm like kicking myself that I didn't look at another room. I was so thankful that my uncle can bring his own furniture there, that I just was overwhelmed and forgot all of the questions to ask. It's clean. The staff was kind. We appreciated the opportunities for caring for the residents, knowing that they look in on the residents. They're not just in their rooms; they encourage them to eat in the dining room. It's a beautiful dining room and it just seemed like a good place, welcoming, and kind. They have a bus that will take them to different events that they have, which I think is really wise. They have a resident council that tells them what they would like to do, like one lady suggested, "Let's go out for coffee and pie to some restaurant," which the young person who plans activities wouldn't have thought about that, but for that generation, that's something they enjoy doing. They listened and they took them, and I think that's great. It's a beautiful place.

Horrible. My father lasted one week, left the facility in acute renal failure. Dad's first days there were of confusion; staff did not know how to care for Alzheimer's patients. They over medicated him, did not hydrate him HORRIBLE! Please do not put your loved one in this facility

We toured Brookdale Midlothian. We liked it. Once you got in there and the tour started, it was great. We are looking for a smaller place because we've now toured two larger places and we've realized that my mother-in-law probably couldn't navigate the larger places very well. She gets tired easily. She's 90, so even using a walker, she gets tired. We like the fact that it was smaller, so she wouldn't have to go very far from her room to the activity area to the dining area. The people seemed very friendly. I liked the rooms. I think it's amusing, but my mother-in-law wouldn't think it's amusing. The empty rooms are named after famous people, so I thought that was an amusing touch. That would appeal to everybody, I'm sure. They had some music, but not as much as she would like because she'd be perfectly happy if somebody was playing the piano for like 12 hours a day. They have a garden area. I remember some books, but I wouldn't call it a library. We met the maintenance guy because nobody was ready to meet us at our scheduled appointment time. The other thing is, though, they've never called us back and given us rates. My wife specifically asked for that and we never got that. Their follow-up is a little iffy. The lady was very nice, she did call back, but then she never called back again to give my wife rates. So, it's a little strange.

I toured Brookdale Midlothian for my father. The sales representative who conducted the tour was friendly, professional, and I thought they were kind. I was able to see them having an activity in a common room. I got to see one of the rooms, and saw the residents out and about, and I met a few of the other caregivers there. The memory care is connected to the assisted living, but it's divided by secure doors. They had a salon, a courtyard, an eating area, and also a common area for the TV.

My mom enjoyed her stay at Brookdale Midlothian. It was a beautiful location, and I would recommend it. She participated in their outside gardening and bingo, and she enjoyed both. The activities were something that she looked forward to when she was there. We had great interactions and conversations with their staff, and things got done per request. Their "welcome" cookies were good, and my mom didn't complain about the food. She was in a studio, and it was a great room.

Brookdale Midlothian is right across the street from me and we loved it. However, my aunt-in-law was resistant to be in an assisted living facility. It's a beautiful facility and they couldn't have been more gracious. We were ready to move her in, but she refused to go to assisted living. It's perfectly laid out, and it's wonderful. They had gracious staff. It's a clean facility and the square footage in the rooms were wonderful. They were very accommodating. It was something that we really liked. They had cookies for the guests and the people that showed us around were very good. It always smelled good there. The staff could not have been any nicer. They were so responsive. If the times comes and she needs actual assistance, it's definitely one of the places we will absolutely look at again (without a doubt).

Brookdale Midlothian was well laid out and very clean. The location was excellent and very convenient to other shopping areas. The staff was friendly and offered me lunch, but I did not have time. I saw their dining room, and it was very nice and offered a lot of choices that I think I would enjoy. The residents seemed like they were all cared for, pleasant, and happy. They were talking to each other. Everyone was clean and fresh, and that made me feel good.

First I wouldn't wish this place on my worst enemy. Let me tell you about their memory care unit. They are very understaffed and the people that do work there, tend to work more than 13 hour days. I know because of what a person told me when my mother was there. The memory care patients are left alone more than 20 mins or more (we are talking 10-12 patients in a common area). We saw that with our own eyes. Our mother fell 3 times in one week. She has been at a rehab place for over 3 weeks and no falls because that place hires enough people to take care of their patients. Patients are left in their own waste for hours. One person's mother was there and fell constantly and they made her bring in 24 hour care for her mother. What is the excuse for this? If you can't have enough staff or aren't qualified to take care of patients with Alzheimer's/Dementia then you shouldn't offer this type of care. The night time staff is just as bad because they will be in a breakroom watching television all night as opposed to oh actually checking on patients. They will sell you a great sell but they do not follow through with what you are told. Save your money and for your own loved one's safety do not bring them to this place.

My parent is at Brookdale. It is alright. It is not the best, but it is not the worst. This is in the middle of the road. The staff is caring. They care about the residents. The surroundings are adequate. Food is OK. It is good.

Brookdale Midlothian would be my second choice. It is a nice place. This is probably where we would have gone had they not been able to take him in his current facility. It is beautiful and newer. The entrance was very attractive as we went through all the space they showed everybody. It was all very attractive and very homey. The people there were very nice and seem to know how to do a good job. I really think that is where we would have gone. That would be closer to us too. The dining room looked very nice. Everything about it looked good, and as far as I know everything about it might be good.

When we first moved my grandma into this facility five years ago we were more than pleased with the experience. The staff consistently went above and beyond to not only care for her but for her belongings. We were thrilled to have found an environment where we trusted the employees so much. Two years ago we had to move my grandpa in as well and the staff did everything they could to make the transition smooth and pleasant for him and us as well. However over the past year we have noticed a steady decline in the quality of the staff and the care. Their personal items began to go missing or be poorly cared for. We have shown up for visits only to find that they had taken my grandparents out of the building for activities without notifying us, one of these trips was to the zoo where we could have met them there with my nephew and had a really nice family afternoon had we been notified of the event. Also we noticed that my grandpa's foot was swollen and red during one of our visits and when we brought to the nurse's attention our concern about his ability to walk on it we were told to call back in the morning and talk to the morning nurse. We have since removed both of my grandparents from the facility and we feel a huge sense of relief.

Sutherland Place seemed very nice, and I thought it was newer than the other ones that we looked at. The room size seemed good. Though the single room seemed to be too small, they had like a single room and a half. The dining room seemed spacious enough. However, we didn't care for the tour that we had at all, and we didn't care for the person who gave the tour. From what I understand from him, he usually worked at another Sutherland Facility, so I was not sure how familiar he was with the one that he was giving us the tour. He rushed through everything. It was all very quick like he couldn't wait to get the tour over with.

Thank you for visiting our community and sharing your feedback. We apologize your expectations were not initially met; we did have an associate covering the position while we were transitioning through the merger. We currently have a permanent sales counselor at the community, and we would love for you to come back for another tour!

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My Mom has been a resident of Southerland Place for over three years. She and I both think of it as her home. The staff is wonderful - very attentive and nuturing. Since it is not a large facility, there is a lot of individuall attention given to the residents. Mom especially loves the "lunch dates" each Monday. The meals are equivalent to a fine restaurant with multiple choices available. The chef is especially talented on his desserts, which are to die for! I would definitely recommend Southerland Place for a "home-like" assisted living facility.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother currently resides at Southerland Place. I have been very pleased with the care that my mother has been receiving. The caregivers have been excellent and I truly believe that each one of them love my mother as their own. There has been great communication between the staff and my family on the care plan and any changes that they see in my mom. My mother fell one night and she told me that they quickly came to her call for help. After they had checked her vitals and made sure that there were no issues, the nurse called me at 12:30 am to tell me what had happened. Even though it was late, I was impressed that they called me to let me know what was going on. Management has an open door policy and is very accessible. I also like that they are always having activities that gives the families a chance to have fun with their loved one. The week before Thanksgiving they invited all of the families to come to a Thanksgiving feast and there was close to 200 people that attended. It was a full Thanksgiving dinner with all of the traditional foods and they had live entertainment. Everyone had a wonderful time! Also the food has been excellent each time I have eating with her and at the parties. It is a tough decision on placing a loved one in an assisted living facility, but I am truly please with my decision of the Southerland Place.
