I am a friend or relative of a resident
I like the way Arbor Rose is set up based on my mom's situation. The staff keeps in touch with me on an ongoing basis as we're trying to work through my mom's meds. If something happens, they're pretty good about giving me a call and a heads up. Mom appears to be very well-kept. The staff dresses her up every day. The facility also appears to be clean and doesn't smell. The residents have music, plays, arts, and field trips as activities. It has been a positive experience.
On my visit to Arbor Rose there were a few issues that I noticed which caused me some concern. Arbor Rose is a very small community made up of a few different houses with, I believe, less than thirty apartments total so I expected to see a lot of one-on-one interaction and individualized attention between the staff members and the residents however, this was sadly not the case. The staff were busy talking to each other instead of interacting and caring for the residents and the entire time I was there, I did not see one staff member walk up to a resident to see if they needed anything, I only saw the residents initiating contact with the staff if they needed help. There is an activity room in each home where the residents can watch TV or play board games, do puzzles, etc. but as far as a thrilling and elaborate activity and event schedule I did not see one in place. I kind of got the feeling that the daily structure was not very stimulating for the residents and if they wanted to sit around and watch TV all day that it may be acceptable. I did not see any of the staff encouraging or motivating the residents to join in the activities that were scheduled. On a positive note, however, the residents seem to be comfortable in their home and they seem to really enjoy each other's company. I can tell that there are some very close friendships among the residents and I think which I think is very important in assisted living in order to keep the residents from feeling lonely. Overall the community is very clean and well kept but I would like to see more helpful and caring interaction between the staff and the residents and I would also like to see a more structured and "active" activity and event schedule. I think that Arbor Rose has the capability to be a wonderful assisted living facility and I would recommend that caregivers take a tour and form your own opinion about Arbor Rose, because there are some great things about the community.
I visited this facility
On more than one visit to Arbor Rose I have been able to freely come and go through outside gates that, according to the signs posted on the latch, were to be locked. Inside the lobby there is a rather oppressive gate separating the front desk from the rest of the community. I have not been given a tour during my visits so I am unable to speak about the care or programming but that gate..... It's demeaning. I can only guess why it's there but surely there are better ways to restrict the residents from the front desk or the front door.
Visited this facility
My mother wanted to visit this facility because a friend of hers had shown her a brochure. I don't even like to call it a facility because Arbor Rose is actually country-style homes.
My mother and I toured both the private and semi-private rooms. We both liked the private rooms because it felt more like an apartment or ""place of her own"".
The staff was very friendly, greeted us and one nurse even stood telling jokes with my mom. My mother is a retired nurse and so they got to talking about that.
There is a recreational room which at Arbor Rose is called a Great Room. Tons of seating, big comfortable chairs, a pool table, television, games and books. About 5 residents were occupying the room when we toured but there was still plenty of room for more.
I really liked how right away several of the women sitting in the great room said hello to my mom.
My mother was happy to see that they even had a salon.
The outside was nice too, a lot of full grown trees and flowers.
My mother ended up not staying at this particular home but sometimes she'll still say to me: remember that really nice place we saw in Mesa?
I always know she's talking about Arbor Rose.
