Winwood, McMinnville Oregon:Overall, excellent. Most outstanding was the staff. Wonderful people - skilled, caring, professional (underpaid, overworked). The facility was very nice, well maintained, clean. Food was excellent. Truly caring people. Some are still friends.Unfortunately, late stage Parkinson's get's you put in with the Alzheimer's patients. An interesting group of people, but living behind locked doors and needing help any time you move can be frustrating. Being the only one without Alzheimer's makes it... well you don't fit in, but you don't want to! Again, the staff was awesome. The only complaints were involving the medical side of treatment. It was a real mixed bag. Sometime excellent (especially the VA), other MD's, cursory to down-right sloppy. Too many Doctor's just throw a different pill without any checking (Don't bother reading the patient's history, don't read ALL the effects and contradictions of the drugs, don't check drug interactions, don't follow ramp times on starting/stopping meds, ignore a balanced treatment from Parkinson's specialists). The trouble comes when the staff is obligated to follow the Doctor's orders (ANY doctor), even if they know they are wrong. There were some interesting moments... The staff were heroic, and quick to intervene / question on behalf of the patients. The RN on staff at Winwood was a champion!I don't think a better facility could be found at any price. Yes, the price was breathtaking, but comparatively reasonable. The level of care was superb. The people, awesome! If I had to be in a nursing facility, it would be here.
Wynwood of McMinnville is a very laid-back and casual community, I have watched many new residents as they have moved in to the facility and the staff and residents are so great at accepting people for who they are and appreciating them because of their individuality. The residents in this facility are very outgoing people, I have known quite a few of them for a long time now and they have always and I feel like they will continue to tell me if negative things are happening within the community. Usually all I hear though are wonderful things about all aspects of the community.
Wynwood of McMinnville is a Brookdale community (Yea!) which means that there is always fun to be had! There are an abundance of resident opportunities and options, programs, and volunteering projects, and much more so there is always something going on and something to do. Many of the activities, classes, etc. that are offered in the facility are very "hands-on". The residents just love being able to jump in and have fun. There are also many how-to classes such as cooking classes, creative writing classes, and the list goes on. They also have special interest clubs and groups, so whatever your hobby or passion may be...gardening, woodworking, quilting, painting, whatever - and if they currently don't have it... create it! The one thing that I am most confident about is the fact that you will never run out of things to do.
The staff in this facility are truly good at what they do, it is really refreshing to see a group of staff members who actually seem to enjoy their work. They all have great, very approachable personalities. They are funny and I always hear them laughing and joking with the residents. They have a way of lifting the residents spirits when they feel down, or soothing them when they feel frustrated or upset. They are very supportive and protective of the residents, there is this one staff member who doesn't care who you are - if you are a new visitor to the facility and you are walking around "her" residents, than you had better be ready to explain who you are and describe your business in the facility! She is beyond protective but it is sweet to see someone who cares so much about the safety and well-being of the residents. Any complaints I have ever heard regarding anything relating to resident care or the staff have always been issues that were quickly and easily corrected and they never had anything to do with neglect, abuse, serious care errors, poor treatment, or anything else that would be considered serious. They mainly were complaints like someone didn't get shower assistance on time or someone didn't like being called "hon". They have all been small issues thus far and with the confidence I have in the staff here I am sure any future complaints will continue to be minor ones.
I hope that those searching for either Assisted Living or Memory Care will choose to visit Wynwood of McMinnville. The community from the inside out is beautiful and comfortable, I believe that you or your loved one will feel very happy and at home living in this facility.
I am a past client of this provider
My husband's father moved into Wynwood a couple years ago. We were very happy with the care he got there. The attendants were kind to the residents and that was important to us. They tried to really get to know each resident and learn about their interests and life. Families were invited to come to the dining room to join their family member for a special dinner once a month. This helped us to get to know the other residents and staff. I would recommend Wynwood as a good assisted living facility.

I was very pleased with Wynwood after my mother's stay there. The staff were always happy to help me with anything, whether for my mother's comfort of my own. Overall, the staff were well-educated and seemed very experienced with taking care of the patients there. My mother never complained about any of the care she received, and in fact had glowing things to say about her nurse, Susan. The facility itself was also well-maintained, with beautiful grounds (especially for an assisted-living facility). The interior of the facility was a tad old, but nothing was in disrepair. There was a minimal amount of dust but nothing terrible. I would definitely recommend Wynwood to other people seeking care for their parents or whoever. The folks at Wynwood were kind and ready to help my mother in any way. The only thing that I wish would change would be the cost of living. It seemed expensive, although most of the facilities nearby were charging equivalent amounts.
