St John Lutheran Care Center

My mother has been in St John Lutheran Care Center since July. It's a nice place. It's clean and well-maintained and the staff is cheerful and attentive.

The LAS St John facility is certainly one I would recommend. The grounds are meticulously maintained. Inside the facility the resources are top notch. They maintain a game room, pool for senior water aerobics. The residents also stated that the food was much better than they expected in an assisted living facility. The nursing and orderly staff are all very personable and treat the resident with the respect that the elders have earned the right too.

While visiting this facility, I was impressed by the politeness of the staff. However, many of the times that my grandfather needed assistance, it took a very long time for a nurse to assist us. I believe this is because the facility is not staffed well enough to care for the resident. I also was not impressed with the cleanliness of the facility. Although everything appeared clean, the stench of dirty sheets could be smelled as soon as you walked out of the elevator. On a more positive note,I was impressed by the food the residents were given. There was proper variety of the essential food groups and vitamins as well as being tailored to the individual patient when needed. I was also upset by the constant rerooming of my grandfather. While being placed in the facility was difficult enough for him, the transition was made even more difficult by the constant relocating. This delayed him from getting in a set routine and used to the facility. In this sense, I was very disappointed by the facility's ability to be prepared for my grandfather's arrival.

As we entered the building I first noticed a friendly, clean environment. We were immediately welcomed and directed to his room. The receptionist was not only helpful but very friendly, and made us feel at ease from the moment we entered.The room was very spacious, clean and homey. He had quick access to a balcony to enjoy some fresh air. The nurse and staff that came in his room while we visiting were very friendly and pleasant. They made us feel as if we were visiting him at his home, and not a care facility. I was pleasantly surprised with the staff and atmosphere. The home is mainly for older individuals, but being a younger person I feared he would be out of place and uncomfortable. This was not the case at all. We had a very nice experience, and he speaks highly of his care while he was there. I would highly recommend St. Johns to anyone that asks me about my experiences there.

We had to move my grandfather into this facility when we decided that it was not safe for him to live on his own any longer. The staff has been nothing but wonderful to him. He is not exactly the easiest person to try and care for because he can be downright ornery. The staff has been very helpful with my dad as he was trying to get all of the paperwork straightened out for the payment and insurance coverage. I think that if I had to find something to complain about, that the only thing I could think of is the fact that the visitor's elevator tends to be out of service for maintenance. Other than that, I could not have found a more caring place for my grandfather to spend the last years of his life.
