I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother-in-law has moved into Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood. It has nice amenities, lots of activities, a church, and a rosary. We like the restaurant-style dining and the large apartment for her walker, so she can get around with her walker. She's still considered independent, but she does get checked on. I haven't interacted with anyone yet, just one person, but she was nice. She has a one-bedroom apartment and it's nice and big, and it was clean when we got there. The inside looks nice and maintained.

I visited this facility

My father-in-law will be moving into Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood. The staff seemed really, really open and welcoming to people. When we did the tour, the residents seemed happy to be there. The residents said good things about it. It was very well cared for, and the price seemed good. His room has a single bedroom and a nice living room. It is a really nice size, and it looks like it has been well maintained. They have a chapel, which was a really big deal for him. It looks like they have a lot of activities in the dining area. Attached to his room, he's got a little deck that overlooks wetlands. I like the location and friendliness of staff. He also knows someone who's already a resident there.

I went to tour Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood yesterday. It looked very nice from what I could see. The woman who assisted me was very knowledgeable and very forthcoming with information. They had a library and a room that could be used for multiple activities. They also had a place for gatherings or parties. I only talked with 3 staff members, and they were very accommodating.

Rooms are nice. A step up from other places we’ve visited. Some Resident Assistants are great and really get to know residents and relatives. They are true caregivers. We appreciate and truly like them. They are the backbone of Seasons. We visit multiple times a week, and there are always new staff who don’t last long. There is definitely a rotating door. In fact, Seasons has lost so many staff in the past 4-6 months that the facility uses a lot of “agency” (i.e. temporary) Resident Assistants who do not get to know residents or policies. Front desk staff are great. Nursing Manager hired about 4 months ago and has been really ineffective. Met with him multiple times about wet beds not being changed, neglect of my relative - forgetting to assist with toileting so left in wet Depends for most of the day on more than one occasion. New Director listens but again does not follow up sufficiently so same problems continue. Facility says it is not understaffed, but it is woefully understaffed. I think financially, Seasons may be in trouble. For example they cut out ice cream for optional dessert because it was “too expensive.” No joke. They also used to give staff a free meal, but said they can no longer afford to allow staff to eat. When I see nickel and dimming like that, I get worried. For truly independent residents, Seasons is much nicer. There is a common room where many people do puzzles and gather. Activities - when my relative moved in, there was an activities director who planned many more events than now. Now, almost all activities are posted as “resident organized”, such as board games and group walks. There are almost no activities now organized by and paid for by the facility. At a recent “pizza party” residents were charged $8.00 a slice. I have registered for nail care for my relative but they have never had their toenails or fingernails cut. I have taken care of that completely.

Provider Response

Thank you for leaving us a review. Our greatest focus is on the care and well-being of our residents and our team members. We have examined the comments you have raised. We agree with you that our caregivers are the backbone of our community and serve our residents with the upmost dignity and respect! As we continue to hire the best team members, we are using agency staff to support our team members and those we serve, which is why you will see new faces throughout the community. To provide current agency staff with the proper training and support they need, our Executive Director and Interim Clinical Director meet with our agency staff twice a week to discuss concerns, answer questions they may have and provide additional training on systems and flows. Our team members have always been able to purchase a meal ticket for $4.00 a meal, but during the peak of COVID-19, we were giving free meals to our amazing team as a thank you for everything they were doing for our community. With meals, ice cream is still available as well every day as an option for dessert. We were seeing many of our residents were wanting ice cream as well as another dessert of choice. (we don't blame them, our chef's desserts are delicious!) We were going through an extraordinary amount of ice cream, so we made the decision that ice cream was its separate option for dessert. While dessert does come with resident meals, they still have the choice of “Dessert of the Day” which is ice cream or cookies. As we stated our caregivers are the backbone of our community, and so are our Life Enrichment team members. We currently have three activities team members that manage all activities during the day. We provide a wide assortment of staff led activities both in assisted living and memory care. Resident organized activities means that residents have requested there be a specific time during the day that they gather and participate in an activity such as board games and walks that is open to everyone and that they manage. This is on-top of what our amazing Life Enrichment team is already planning! We have coordinated outings to a variety of local restaurants, as well as have had a variety of restaurants deliver food. As this is an activity that is driven by residents, we just provide support to ensure it goes smoothly and anyone who wants to participate can. The costs to join is reflected by how many people sign up. More people, less personal cost. If Seasons at Maplewood chooses to host an activity where food and drinks are provided there is no cost for residents to join or participate. For example, we have a weekly Happy Hour open to all residents where foods and drinks are provided at no cost. If you would love to discuss further, we ask that you visit this website, thank you!

I went to tour the Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood. The staff was pushing my aunt more into a deeper level of memory care than she needed, and I wasn't happy about that. The rooms were big and they had a washer and dryer in the apartments. They had very nice grounds. This facility is actually very nice and big.

My mother-in-law has moved in at Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood. We chose it because of what we hope is their caregiving, but mostly because for dementia patients, they have care to the end stage so she doesn't have to move again. The staff seems very efficient, and they have nursing staff available all the time. The rest of the staff is well-trained for dementia and very patient with my mother-in-law. Whenever she doesn't want to go to dinner, they would come back to ask her again to eat. Whenever we were there, she'd tell us that she was pleased with her meals. She won a bean bag toss contest one time and they have Wii Bowling. She hasn't been there that long but she was cutting out pictures and pasting them on posters for decorations for the Veterans Day celebration for the residents and their spouses. She seems busy and happy there.

I visited this facility

I was very impressed by the Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood. The staff was very responsive. It's a beautiful facility with beautiful grounds. I just couldn't look at the rooms, because there were no available rooms. I kind of walked past the rooms and from what I saw, they looked really pretty. They have a little kitchenette, but they're not allowed to have an oven or a microwave for safety reasons. It looked like a new facility. It's got a beautiful exterior. It was two or three stories tall and they had little ponds, a bridge, and an outdoor sitting area. They also had a spa, a party room, an exercise room, activities, and church services of various denominations.

I visited this facility

I walked out of Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood feeling like they truly cared about my parents and me, as a person who was helping them. I felt like they gave us a ton of time. I went by myself the first time and I went with my parents the second time, and Mary and Megan both sat with us for more than half an hour, talking and asking questions. I felt like they knew what to ask. They were really helpful even in getting some balls rolling for my parents. They just went above and beyond. There are several things about the place that I thought were unique, too. They have availability for two bedrooms and some other things that I did not see in the other six places we toured. It's very clean, looks nice, and the residents that I saw were happy. They also have a fitness center, lots of dining options, beauty salons, and a theater.

Provider Response

Rachel, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Thank you for taking the time to come visit our wonderful community. We love when we are able to show the community everything Ecumen has to offer, including our amazing team members like Mary and Megan. We hope you make it back soon! I like the location of Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood because it's very close to the area that we're accustomed to. The people there were very knowledgeable, spent time with us, answered our questions, and showed us things. The facility was very nice but it was kind of dark.

My dad has moved into Ecumen Seasons. We chose them because of the location and proximity to my house. Also, my mother-in-law and father-in-law are living there, so it is really a matter of convenience. My wife can go and visit her parents, I can visit my dad, and we can do the combination very easily. The service level for my dad has been excellent. The staff members are prompt. They're right next to perfect. I don't have any complaints. The apartments are very spacious, well laid-out, and very clean. There are a great amount of activities. For what we're paying, it's fair.

I chose Ecumen Seasons, and am set up to move there. It seems to be in a very nice place. It has nice grounds, a nice place for walking, a library, and it's near a mall. The people we met were very nice. It was about a mile from my sister's house, and it's perfect. It was clean, friendly, and they had various options for meal services. They have various activities, and exercise programs, which I definitely want.

Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood is very nice. They have everything my parents wanted, but they just didn't go. The facility was very nice. The staff explained everything and showed us around. We saw one room. It was very nice, but it was too small for them; that's why we didn't continue on. The dining room was very nice. They offered different packages, which was very nice as well.

My mother is comfortable with Ecumen Seasons. It is home like. The staff and the nursing assistants are wonderful. They are friendly, outgoing and lovely people. When you walk in there, they know your name and remember you for who you are. They have a lovely dining facility. They have a great room that you feel comfortable in and you feel at home. They have movie theater and church services. They have exercise room. They have an enhanced assisted living, which is superb.

My mom was still living in her own home and she didn't want to go into a nursing home. A lot of the assisted living buildings that have been around for many, many years, although they've been remodeled still have a real nursing home feel for them. But Seasons at Maplewood did not have that. In my opinion, they know what people want. The Ecumen building is only two years old, but it was hand-in-hand with another Ecumen building that was 25 years old. The staff seem great and I have not felt uncomfortable with anyone, from the chef, nurse, wait staff, and the concierge that's there from 8:00 in the morning till 8:00 at night. The main one, Lynn, she wears many hats and she's friendly. Everybody that works there seems to enjoy their jobs. My mother's room is huge. A 2-bedroom/2-bathroom apartment. It's over 900 square feet. I love their food. I've eaten their many times with her. Their price is not that bad, and anytime I want to eat with her, I just go on buy a ticket. And I have not had one bad meal yet, although my mom has had one.
