I visited this facility

This facility is owned and run by a husband and wife team. This facility is a mid-century, brick, single-family home on an old, established street. The couple also has a second facility elsewhere in the city. Both of the owners were very nice and welcoming, and eager to talk to me about what I needed and what they could provide. Both of the owners appeared very active in the day-to-day management of the facility, but there is also a full complement of nursing and other staff.

They wanted to be very clear that they are a licensed nursing home, able to provide care even a bit above the level typically called “Assisted Living”. The facility can house 40 residents in shared bedrooms and is not locked down, but all exits and gates are alarmed to notify the staff when someone leaves the premises.

This facility houses people of a variety of ages. It looked to me like the youngest was in his forties, but the owners said my elderly grandparents would fit in perfectly here. It looked as though some of the residents may have more extensive mental and behavioural health care needs but I did not get the impression that this facility was exclusively dedicated to that kind of care.

The lifestyle here felt very laid back, with the residents mingling and socialising in the common rooms and on the porch and in the yard. The owners appeared to have a close personal relationship with each of the residents, and they seem to make a lot of effort on behalf of the residents. While I was there, one of the owners returned from taking a resident to his doctor’s appointment, and I was also told that his daughter was taking a couple of the residents on a field trip to have their nails done. While this is not the same type of facility as many of the larger, corporate, luxury complexes, I felt that the residents here probably benefit from most of the same things and receive very good care but in a smaller, more intimate setting. I would recommend this facility to my loved ones.
