Avoid this place, experience with the owner has been disapointing. Lots of honey words up front and vinegar later.
I am a friend or relative of a resident
In mine and my husbands line of work we frequently visit and recommend alternate living facilities for for the aged and/or those whom are unable to live on their own due to physical, emotional and mental restrictions and have no one else to provide care for them. When it came to recommending a facility for a long time neighbor and friend I chose Abundant Living, located in the small town of Inverness Florida. I chose this facility because I had recommended it to many of my clients. It was five star plus, always full with a waiting list; and for good reason! The small facility had no more than six residents per caregiver, the meals were home cooked, the lines were always fresh (leaving the rooms always with fragrant undertones of "fresh rain" scented fabric softener). The activities were genuine including, small strolls through the scenic woodsy neighborhood (length depending on the personal fitness level of each resident), tea and cooking were served at noon on the screened porch, where most of the staff would encourage safe topics for group discussions. Beading, Bingo, painting and home made puzzles (one of the girls used to make jigsaw puzzles from previous painting projects the residents had completed to send home to their grand children, nieces and nephews).(I even came in one morning to a girl cleaning the kitchen, which looked like a mild disaster had struck, she apologized and explained they had all made home made preserves and jams, because the ladies of the house had said how much they missed canning). This was the kind of treatment I had hoped my fragile friend was about to receive.Unfortunately, however, management had been changing for over a year. The facilities owner left to another state and ( I heard dismissed her best worker because she no longer wanted to pay the higher salary she was giving) and put another employee in charge. It is now confusing to know whom to go to with problems, the place has the under smell of urine or powerful smell of bleach (eye watering), depending on who is on duty. It seems to me they are either ignored or (on the weekends) coersed into participating in are projects (such as string beads onto roaps taking them off and doing it again and again). I asked on one such weekend about the walks and tea parties (which are still proudly mentioned on the large activities calendar in the day room), I was told by this woman that the residents would rather bead and participate in projects quietly and to their-selves. And she then mocked some of the previous staff be saying they "had time to play activities director and chef" while the other work wasn't getting done, that's why they are not hear anymore (I hate hearing that type of negativity in a facility). To shorted this a bit, rumors of medications not being administered timely are abundant, the facility is not as clean as before, the food now looks atrocious and i see full plates being left untouched at dinning table, the residents do not seem to be socializing with each other and I see a lot of just sitting and starring.I am presuading my friends family to consider a move, but to check the next place out thoroughly first. Because as bad as this place has gotten, I still know there are much worse out there. I only wish they would get their act together and bring things back to way it was!
Provider Response
I would like to invite the well meaning caregiver who wrote this review to visit us again and speak to the present manager and staff. She may have been in fact, speaking to the employee who was let go and was not awarded the management position .To clarify the information noted on this review, please consider that the"best worker " mentioned may have been let go because she was infact the cause of the problems noted and for no other reason. The person who is now managing the facility is an original employee who's pay has remained the same and who has made it even better than it has ever been, the present staff goes above and beyond the call of duty and even volunteer thier time to ensure the residents are happy and well taken care of. The residents always get thier medication even when they cannot afford to pay for it themselves and the residents are always encouraged to participate in activities but are not badgered and certainly never left alone. We invite you all to visit us anytime day or night, you wont be disappointed and you wont smell any foul odors . We also offer day programs for those who need thier loved ones taken care of a few hours a day. You are invited to stay and watch or participate, have lunch and join us for bingo every weekend,we have prizes donated by the staff. The owner has moved out of state but remains available and is in touch all day, everyday and her number is available through the facility staff anytime you would like to call her. God bless you all.
