I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We've already found Brookdale Brushy Creek and got my in-laws there. I like the overall layout. It is very open and airy. It doesn't feel cramped. This place is very clean and it smells like flowers. They have flowers everywhere and small trees - real trees, not fake trees. They have all sorts of different programs going on. People are learning to dance and they are getting people moving around. The staff is extremely helpful and extremely knowledgeable. While we were there, another patient went into some sort of medical issue, and they were Johnny on the spot. Several people came at once providing assistance, getting an ambulance to take him to the hospital, and notifying his family. It just filled me with confidence that they are taking their jobs very seriously. The place is extremely clean. There is no stuff scattered everywhere. They bring the residents out to play games, like bingo. One group of people was playing Monopoly while we were there. There were a couple of other gentlemen who were wheelchair-bound and we saw them outside in the courtyard shooting basketball hoops. There were only 3 of them, but there was a male nurse out there watching them. If the ball got away, the nurse would run and get it and bring it back, and they would shoot the ball again.

I visited this facility

Brookdale Brushy Creek was very nice. The people were great. The residents were friendly. They have a lot of activities. They seem to be a great place to stay and probably would be a top pick. Unfortunately, the room that they had available was very small. It was just a little one-bedroom. They had different floor plans, but they didn't have one available for us to look at. There were a lot of happy, friendly residents there. Lots and lots of families were busy working, doing things in the hallways and rooms. All the family members that walked past were very friendly and said they loved being there and that they highly recommended it. It's an older facility, but it's very well-maintained.

I visited this facility

We toured Brookdale Brushy Creek. The room had a separation of the bedroom and the sitting area, and we liked that. They have outside gardens. It's a small facility. The employees have been there a long time, which is a good sign. The staff are great. They have lots of amenities, more than my dad would ever need. They have things for the seniors to do, they have therapy, and they have someone on staff if my dad needs medical attention. They pretty much have everything there.

I visited this facility

Brookdale Brushy Creek was a very nice facility, but I didn't like the setup of the rooms as much as I did the other place. The kitchenettes and the bathrooms were smaller and the rooms seemed smaller to me, but they had walk-in closets. I saw the dining room, but it was closed. They were delivering some meals because they had someone test positive. They were continuing to just deliver the meals for the next week or so. The staff was wonderful. People came out and introduced themselves when I was taking the tour, like the activity director and the onsite nurse. They had a salon and a physical therapy room where the residents can get physical therapy through their insurance, which was nice. They had a nice courtyard. They appeared to try to accommodate the residents like there were different paint colors that a resident had requested. You saw a pink room and a green room and I thought that was kind of nice.

We found Brookdale Brushy Creek for my father. We chose it for the friendliness and attention of the staff. It was clean, comfortable, and felt very much like home. We toured an example of a room, not the room that he would be in. It was a one- bedroom with a sitting area, and it was very nice. They have an outside seating area for the residents, and they have lots of different indoor seating areas. We met some of the residents.

The people at Brookdale Brushy Creek seemed very nice. The dining area was nice, and the couple of people I saw who lived there seemed happy. I also saw their garden area. The staff seemed nice. They also talked about their activities. They take the residents out to Walmart or go out to dinner and things like that. I would rate them a three because it would have been nice to really see the rooms and laundry rooms. A couple of the staff members said hi as they walked by, but I only really talked to one of them, and she was nice. She even gave me her number and said that if I have any questions to give her a call back. The community was fine, but the location wasn't good for me personally. That's going to be different for everybody.

Brookdale Brushy Creek is very nice, they're very good to my mother, and they're very concerned about their residents. Her apartment is small, but it's comfortable. They have activities, a gym, and a wonderful outdoor courtyard. The food is not great, but it's okay. The staff is very caring, but there are only a few of them.

I visited Brookdale Brushy Creek, it was very impressive, but the location was not conducive to what we wanted to do. They have beautiful rooms and they appeared to have very good amenities. I recommend they visit because it seemed to be a very good place. The staff was very good and she answered my questions.

My father is temporarily at Brookdale Brushy Creek, mostly for respite care until he gains his strength from being in the hospital. For what he needs, it's been great. We're really pleased with everything. His room is furnished. Everything is provided except for his own personal belongings. It's fine and it's one of the largest spaces that they have and it's basically what they consider a 2-bedroom. He seems to be happy with the food. For the most part, he's pleased with everything. It's an older facility, but as far as the people, the staff, and the cleanliness, everything seems to be really good. They've been very good to him and good to us. It's completely established and they definitely have a great management staff and they really do well with their team players.

My mother is in Brookdale Brushy Creek, and so far, it's been great. She loves the food. The people are great; they love her, and they're caring for her. I would recommend it. She has a shared room. When you walk in, there's a bathroom, a little sitting area with a sofa, and a little kitchen that has a tiny refrigerator and some cabinets. They're like in their own room without a door. They have curtains, which we really liked because she's sharing but has her own room. It's a good location. They do have a central courtyard that they can go sit. They do a lot with the people there. They have couples there who just need some extra assistance. If one spouse needs help, I would definitely recommend they both move in. It's reasonable. They are very helpful.

We went to Brookdale Brushy Creek. It was out of my aunt’s price range. It was very clean, and the food was very good, but it was out of my aunt’s price range. If it were in our price range, we would have chosen them. There were really good staff.

I visited this facility

I visited Brookdale Brushy Creek (Formerly Sterling House of Greenville). It looked clean and nice, and they were friendly. The rooms were small, but very neat and in good shape. The bathrooms were nice sized, and they had good windows. They had several different types of apartments, but the care didn't go far enough for my mother. She needed more care.

I visited this facility

I was not as pleased with Sterling House of Greenville because of that woman, and it was a locked facility too, but she came by, actually she ran, and she was standing there shaking the front door trying to get out and nobody redirected her or anything. So the staff did not seem as supportive. I know they knew that she didn't need to go out, but they could have redirected her to do something else that would have been more pleasant for her than just standing there shaking the door. I know the whole facility is locked, but I do know that they have a bus that goes out and takes some of them, so I am not sure if the security was there. The rooms were OK and they go out into a setting in the middle where there was a courtyard that was enclosed. I wasn't pleased with it, and it is right on the road where if the residents did get out, I am afraid they'd be in traffic immediately. So that was kind of a negative for me. I think training the staff to redirect would help as that is very important with Alzheimer's patients.

Sterling House looks and smells like a nursing home. There are people that sit around in the common areas asleep. They aren't being engaged at all. The rooms are adequate, but they don't have a warm feeling. The staff is very nice. They were social with me, but they didn't get personally involved with me.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mom was in respite care at Sterling House. She actually will be going there again. We chose this facility at that time because they had a bed available when we needed it and probably the biggest plus for us was that they're one mile from our home, so it was most convenient in terms of location. The staff was very much accommodating. Their rooms were very nice. She was in a studio apartment and it met her needs at that time. I think they have some even larger rooms but, actually, too much room would be more confusing for people with dementia like my mom. The food was great there too.

I am a friend or relative of resident

Caregivers here seem like they really care about the residents. There wa no bad smell when I first visited this facitlity as sometimes I have been overcome with horrible smells upon entering asst. living homes and nursing homes. My relative's room is not kept as clean as I would like it though, there is always trash on the floor and her dirty clothes are just left lying around and not always put in her hamper. They bring her clean clothes to her room, but lately I have to hang them all up and put them away in hr drawers because they are not doing that - she has dementia and cannot do this. They are making us pay for them to hand feed my relative, but I have yet to see them do it. I feed her snacks when I come to see her, and she seems to be starving!
