I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is currently at St. Ann's Home. Our experience has been really positive. The directors and staff have been very easy to work with regarding our concerns and our questions, and they've responded back to questions or concerns we've had. And as a family, they've been able to assist us in making sure my mother gets the right therapy. My mother enjoys the food a lot, and there's plenty of variety, two or three choices for each meal. She's healthier now than when she was living at home. The building is clean and their facilities are sufficient.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad is in assisted living at St. Ann's Home, but they can no longer take care of his needs is what they said. They have memory care and skilled nursing there. My dad has lived there for five years, and he spent over $300,000, but they put him at the bottom of the list for this place. They should have put him at the top of the list because he's been there for five years. That's his home. I'm very upset with them. I spent over $300,000 for him, and now his money's gone, so I'm limited to where I put him because he's very close to being on Medicaid. And he needs to go to memory care, but their memory care is full of women. They don't take men, and they won't put him in a nursing home either. My dad is pretty much blind. His biggest issue is he tries to go behind his diaper and he tries to go potty by himself, but he misses the toilet all the time. I talked to them about putting him in a place for blind people, but they said that's not appropriate because if I put him in a place for blind people, they would try to teach them Braille and all this kind of stuff. He's 94, so he's not going to learn anything, and he doesn't remember anything. However, my dad is very happy there. He loves it there. All the nurses know him. The nurses are good. But I think they're short staffed, and it's upper management that is horrible. They have activities, but he does not go to them because he's not a bingo player. He has regressed with COVID due to the fact that these all stopped for a year and a half. Now they're starting it up again. He kind of just sits in his chair asleep, and that's all he does. He is on a pureed diet. He has had a couple of choking spells. The rooms are not studios. There's no refrigerator. He got a private bathroom and a private shower. It's just a room with a closet. There are no extras except for TV service.

I visited this facility

We toured St. Ann's Home for my aunt. They were very informed and very helpful to us. When we sat and spoke with them, they took their time to just walk us through an area we had a question about, which was nice. If we can't get into the other facility, we'll probably go here. I had a lot of questions, and there were some questions I hadn't even thought of, and she was very helpful to walk through those steps with me, encouraging me and giving me the information I didn't even know to ask, so I thought that was good. It was very clean. They were in the process of renovating a room, so we knew that it was kept up. They didn't leave things to get old, and everything seemed very convenient. Where you go from your room to eat or whatever wasn't that far away, which was nice.

I visited this facility

I think it's an excellent place but what really took my breath away was the cost that it's going to be for one single person. That's really a steep place. I don't know how many people can afford that, but that's apparently the going rate so that was the just the disappointment. We just had to plan ahead and go from there. Well, everything cost is high. The food is high, gas is high, so I guess it's all relative. It's a very good nursing home. It's a very clean place, very nice, and very well kept. The people there are all very polite and very accommodating.

I visited this facility

I went with my girlfriend to be a second set of eyes. She needed to find a place for her aunt to stay. She had no other help from family members so I went along to help her. I do say I was impressed. You usually think of these places as drab and boring. People just sitting around doing nothing. This was not the case here. The facility is nice and clean. It has a friendly and lively surroundings. All the workers were very kind. They did not know we were coming so I don't beleive their behavior was acted. I had a good feeling here. I felt comfortable and not uptight being around of a lot of older people. Their were a lot of activities and things for the residents to do. It was kind of like a big family. I would not be worried to leave my loved one here. You hear so many horror stories of workers treating the residents badly or not caring. That was definetly not the case here. I would feel good about leaving my loved one here!!
