I visited this facility

The Heritage at Shalimar Gardens was an extremely nice facility. They have very nice, beautiful apartments with full services. It would cost quite a bit more money, but the personal living space is extremely nice. You get what you pay for. People seemed to be very nice, very helpful, and friendly. Everything was also extremely clean.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad was at The Heritage at Shalimar Gardens. The staff was incredible. They made everything as easy as it could be for us. They were caring and loving. The food was lovely. I have nothing but high marks to say about the place. His room was very, very nice, clean, and roomy. They had the carpets freshened up and the walls painted. Everything was very nice. They had daily activities like ice cream socials, singing, crafts, and games. He was not able to participate in very much because he was so advanced in his dementia and Parkinson's. The value for the money was very, very good.

I visited this facility

My husband will be moving into The Heritage at Shalimar Gardens. I really don't know much about it yet, but the level of care that he was assessed at was better than some place because he has a little wiggle room now if things should not go well, so that was one of the things that helped me decide. It's close to North Bend, so he's got family around who can be of assistance. It was a little less inexpensive than some of the others that I looked at, but it's a very nice community judging from the tour that I got. It's fairly new. They gave me the information that I asked for, they volunteered lots of information, and they seemed very cordial and helpful.

My father has moved into The Heritage at Shalimar Gardens, and so far it's been really good. The staff is wonderful, cordial, and friendly. If you need anything they're more than happy to help you. His apartment has a tiny kitchen, a fridge, a microwave, a living room, a bedroom, and a bathroom. It's nice, and it's adequate for one person. He likes the food. I have seen people playing games, doing puzzles, exercising, and playing bingo.

My brother was in Shalimar Gardens for almost 4 years; it was very nice, and they had everything. His apartment was a 1-bedroom with a large bathroom and bedroom, and it had plenty of storage closets. The people there were nice and friendly, and the staff was also very nice. He moved to be near to me. They had Bingo and exercise classes, and they had plenty of family events where everybody was invited -- like Halloween and Christmas parties. They had car shows and picnics, and the men went out to eat for steak dinners. I’ve had a couple of meals there, and I had no complaints.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother-in-law was in Shalimar Gardens for about two years. She was very well there. The food was good for her. They had not kept her very active, but then she had dementia so she spent a lot of her time in her room. When she was out, she wandered so they were afraid she would go outside and would get lost. That was why they told us she had to leave. They had activities like bingo, and they had quite a few games and stuff, but they do not forced people to come out. They would not bring them out to play. They would give them activity seats and if they would remember it, they would go out and do it. The staff had quite a change over. The first ones were very helpful with mom. They would come and get her or knock on her door. Then they had different staff and a different director. And they just kind of left her sit and worried more about her getting out than they did try to keep her entertained. However, it was a nice community. It was well kept. I guess we were just a little disappointed that they asked her to leave, but under the circumstances, I kind of understand why, but I knew the rest of the family was pretty upset.

About The Heritage at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont, Nebraska

There's something about the small town of Fremont, Nebraska. Everyone knows one another. Wants to stay there. The strength of this community is reflected in an ideal place for the area's seniors: Shalimar Gardens Assisted Living and Memory Support Community, in business almost ten years. "Lots of people at Shalimar Gardens grew up together because of the small town of Fremont," says senior living counselor Beth Fikensher. "So many people know each other and are pleasantly surprised to learn some of their old friends are at Shalimar Gardens."

Although a feeling of community comes naturally to Shalimar Gardens, the establishment has also vowed to uphold this value in principle, declaring to serve the community both within and outside their building walls. The responsibility extends to individuals, as well, with a resolution to consider each resident unique and cherished.

Safety is key, with smoke detectors, sprinkler systems and a personal emergency alert system. Further, a registered nurse is on staff from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily along with 24-hour certified staffing.
