Terpening Terrace

I have visited Terpening Terrace several times now and while the community is beautiful and they seem to offer all of the amenities and services that a resident could ever want, I think that some of the staff could use some extra training regarding resident care and treatment. Most of the staff seem like wonderful people and they seem to take caring for the residents very seriously. They are loving with the residents and have excellent bedside manner. They joke and laugh with the residents and the interaction between these staff members and the residents seems so relaxed and comfortable, it's as if they have all known each other for years. These staff members are also very supportive and protective of each resident. However, there are a few staff members who seem very uncomfortable in communicating with the residents, they come across as being cold and disrespectful and I don't know if they are just that way or if they are unfamiliar or uncomfortable with being around the residents. Whatever the reason, it is not okay to be disrespectful to a resident in any way. The staff is in place to assist the residents in making their lives easier and as comfortable as possible, and I know the residents were not feeling at all comfortable with the way they were being spoken to by these staff members. I watched the way they were speaking to and treating the residents and I, myself was very uncomfortable so I know the residents were. I don't want to go into details about the treatment, but I will say that I would be furious if any one ever spoke to my mother that way.

I will be visiting the facility again in the next couple of weeks and I hope more than anything that the resident and family complaints regarding resident treatment have created some positive changes within the facility. It is really a shame because Terpening Terrace is a beautiful facility with so many options and amenities available to the residents and I think it would be perfect for residents if they were treated appropriately by ALL of the staff. However, until these changes take place, I would not feel right referring people to Terpening Terrace.
